You Claimed You Didn’t Love Me, So Why Cry Now That I’m Engaged? Chapter 163

Chapter 163: Too Childish

After settling down in District B, Xie Miaohan began to get very busy, often going out to find Xiang Wanxing.

Gu Huaiye knew he shouldn’t pry into the Xiang family’s affairs, so he never asked for details about the cooperation to avoid bringing trouble to himself and Xie Miaohan.

He often stayed in the apartment, occasionally going out to the mall to buy things for the home.

Even though he was the one staying home, the one with separation anxiety every time was Xie Miaohan.

Upon returning in the evening, Xie Miaohan would hug him for a long time, releasing his pheromones to wrap around him dominantly and aggressively.

Only when his anxiety alleviated would he be willing to let go.

One afternoon, Gu Huaiye went out to buy New Year’s goods. Perhaps because the New Year was approaching and everyone was shopping, there was a massive traffic jam on the way back.

What was usually a fifteen-minute drive took a solid hour to get home.

Just as he fished the key out of his pocket, the door in front of him opened automatically. A figure rushed out and pulled him tightly into an embrace.

“Huaiye.” Xie Miaohan was trembling all over. “Why are you so late? I thought… you left me and went away.”

Gu Huaiye was holding things in his hands and couldn’t hug him back easily.

“How could I leave you?” Gu Huaiye said helplessly, “I wanted to call you, but my phone suddenly ran out of battery, and the driver didn’t have a spare charger.”

He hadn’t expected the traffic jam either. Thinking he would be back soon, he had left without a full charge.

Next time, he’d better bring a power bank so Xie Miaohan wouldn’t be unable to reach him.

“You’re not allowed to scare me like this in the future.” Xie Miaohan said uneasily, “I was really so scared I couldn’t find you, Brother.”

Gu Huaiye’s body stiffened. “What did you say?”

“I said don’t scare me. I really thought you just…”

Gu Huaiye interrupted him. “No, what did you call me just now?”

“Huaiye.”

Gu Huaiye frowned. He was one hundred percent certain he hadn’t misheard this time.

He put down the things in his hands and pushed away Xie Miaohan’s embrace.

“Did you call me Brother?” Gu Huaiye’s eyes revealed a probing look, his tone becoming somewhat aggressive. “Why did you call me Brother?”

Xie Miaohan stared into Gu Huaiye’s eyes and tilted his head, a trace of confusion appearing on his beautiful face.

“I called you Brother?”

Gu Huaiye’s expression changed abruptly, but seeing Xie Miaohan like this, it didn’t look like he was lying.

“Did you remember something?”

Xie Miaohan opened his mouth, but after a long while, he shook his head.

“Huaiye, I don’t know what you’re trying to ask.”

Gu Huaiye was silent for a moment and didn’t continue the topic.

He knew Xie Miaohan must have remembered something; it was just a question of how much. Maybe just some fragments, or maybe everything.

Perhaps there was something difficult to say, and he didn’t want to confess it.

Considering Xie Miaohan was still sick, Gu Huaiye didn’t want to push him too hard. He would probe slowly later.

“I bought some New Year’s goods. Let’s put up the spring couplets together after dinner.” Gu Huaiye picked up the shopping bags again and walked into the apartment. “I called Dad. We won’t go back this year. Once we’re stable here, next New Year the whole family can gather in District B, or we can go to District A.”

Xie Miaohan followed behind him without saying a word.

“Put these in the fridge.” Gu Huaiye took out a small bag and handed it to Xie Miaohan. “It’s ice cream. Being stuck in traffic for so long, it’s probably melted. Go freeze it quickly.”

“Okay.”

Xie Miaohan took it and went to the kitchen to put it in the fridge.

When he returned, he stared at the busy Gu Huaiye, looking like he wanted to say something but stopped himself.

He wasn’t deliberately trying to avoid the topic.

It was just that those memories were too strange to him. It felt as if another version of him, carrying those memories, had forcibly barged into his body, trying to squeeze him out.

He didn’t want to merge with those memories either; he rejected that experience from the bottom of his heart.

He felt that Gu Huaiye probably wouldn’t like that version of him.

Too childish.

Only knowing how to use petty tricks to attract Gu Huaiye’s attention—completely unpresentable.

What Xie Miaohan couldn’t forgive even more was how that person could be so immersed in his own feelings that he didn’t even notice Gu Huaiye was sick.

He hated that version of himself and was unwilling to admit that person was him.

But sometimes, he couldn’t help but blurt out “Brother” to Gu Huaiye.

It was as if “that person” was like a parasite, growing constantly inside his body, taking over everything he had.

“Why are you standing there?” Gu Huaiye turned to look at Xie Miaohan and laughed helplessly. “Come help. If I unpack alone, we won’t be able to eat until very late.”

Xie Miaohan snapped out of it and went to help Gu Huaiye.

After a while, he said, “Invite Chen Zirui over for New Year’s.”

Gu Huaiye paused, joy showing in his eyes. “Okay! Having one more person is good; it’ll be lively.”

He had wanted to invite Chen Zirui, but worrying that Xie Miaohan might be unhappy, he had held back.

“Xiang Wanxing went to the army two days ago and sent me a few photos.”

Xie Miaohan took out his phone, scrolled to his chat history with Xiang Wanxing, and found a photo of Chen Zirui.

“He’s gotten much darker.” Xie Miaohan handed it to Gu Huaiye.

Gu Huaiye took a look and burst out laughing.

“Just like in the life before last. He looks like a refugee, hahaha.”

Thinking of something, Gu Huaiye looked up at Xie Miaohan and asked puzzledly, “How come when you went to the army, you didn’t get tan at all?”

“It’s not that I didn’t get tan, it’s just that I turned white again very quickly.” Xie Miaohan looked aggrieved. “You care about looks too much. If I didn’t get pale again, how would I dare to see you?”

Gu Huaiye rolled his eyes.

“It’s not that exaggerated.”

Wheat-colored skin isn’t bad either.

It’s quite thrilling in bed.
