Part 3
Tang Xingye met his implicitly expectant gaze, the corner of his mouth hooking extremely lightly, spitting out two words:
“You guess.”
Such a standard Tang Xingye answer.
Zhou Lin sighed lightly. Tang Xingye made a fist in the next second, handing it in front of him.
Zhou Lin didn’t understand. Tang Xingye turned his hand over, opened his palm, and produced a flower.
Paper Rose Magic.
Zhou Lin asked seriously, “Is this also a return gift?”
“It’s a surprise.”
Zhou Lin smiled helplessly, accepting this rose.
The internship ended, and Zhou Lin came to pick Tang Xingye up. Unsurprisingly, he saw that slender figure still surrounded by a group of people, like a small farewell party.
A young Alpha busily stuffed a carefully prepared fountain pen into Tang Xingyeâs hand, simultaneously looking at Zhou Lin with provocative eyes. Zhou Linâs face didn’t change, just nodding gently in greeting.
That person pulled Tang Xingye to say a lot, hastily suggesting, “You’re going back to school, let me drive you.”
The gentle smile on Zhou Linâs face faded instantly. A trace of extremely cold expression swept across his brows. Although he didn’t speak, the surrounding air seemed to drop several degrees abruptly.
“No need, someone is here to pick me up.”
On the way to the parking lot, Zhou Lin took over Tang Xingyeâs luggage. Tang Xingye wasn’t a talkative person himself, and Zhou Linâs thoughts were still stuck on Tang Xingye not rejecting the fountain pen gesture. Silence all the way.
Zhou Lin lowered his eyes, feeling a bit anxious.
Tang Xingye suddenly turned his head, looking like he just realized it. “Are you jealous? Visitor 404.”
Zhou Lin was stunned for a moment. Unlike the others in the dorm, his schedule was too full, so even if he really became Pavlov’s dog, he couldn’t control himself from not flipping through Tang Xingyeâs logs.
He thought his browsing was concealed enough.
Three months ago, Tang Xingye discovered a visitor frequently looking at his alt account. He vaguely guessed the identity, tested multiple times, and confirmed Zhou Lin was this visitor.
Tang Xingye observed Zhou Lin silently, finding he really just watched quietly, occasionally sending help in time when he implicitly mentioned needing a document or hitting a bottleneck.
Their past was like resentful partners. Now… Tang Xingye felt he could give a new chance.
Tang Xingye handed an exquisite project brochure to Zhou Lin, signaling him to open the last page.
Zhou Lin opened it as told. In the first line of the “Acknowledgements” column, a line of words was clearly printed:
“Special Thanks: Mr. Zhou Lin of Jing University.”
His eyes moved slightly.
He had never been fully confident about his attitude toward Tang Xingye. Tang Xingye was a typical case of responding to softness but not hardness; whoever treated him well, he would respond with kindness. He rejoiced in this trait because it made Tang Xingye less resistant to his approach, yet feared Tang Xingye would be lured away if someone treated him better.
Now Zhou Lin felt a few degrees more at peace, even with just a sporadic response.
Thin lips moved slightly, wanting to say something. However, his gaze immediately caught other familiar names below:
Mr. Ji Chen of Jing University
Mr. Lin Mo of Jing University
Mr. Lu Zhi of Jing University
Mr. Pei Lian of Jing University
Zhou Linâs fingers paused on the paper page. The emotion that had just welled up was instantly covered by a subtle mood. He looked up at Tang Xingye, eyes carrying a query.
Tang Xingye met his gaze, tone calm, as if just stating a fact: “They invested money too.”
Zhou Lin: “…”
Looking at that “Bowl Balancing Master” (impartial) acknowledgment list, then at the little fox in front of him with a face saying “I am very fair,” he didn’t know whether to be angry or laugh for a moment.
He finally couldn’t resist pinching Tang Xingyeâs face, receiving a kitten paw swat.
…
Internship over, only a few short days left of winter break. Tang Xingye was dragged by Ji Chen for a physical exam.
He took time to brush up on Subject 1 questions, planning to go back to his hometown to burn incense for his elders. He intended to go back alone quietly, but when those Alphas in the dorm heard, they started arguing.
Seeing the dispute unresolved, Tang Xingye fished out his phone, opened a dice mini-program, and slapped the screen on the table. “Whoever gets the biggest number goes.”
The Alphas looked at each other. Though unwilling, this seemed to be the most “fair” plan currently.
Lu Zhi picked up the phone first, held his breath, and clicked. It was a “3”. His face turned black as a pot bottom instantly.
Pei Lian sneered and took the phone. The dice spun, stopping steadily on “3”. The smile on his face froze instantly, lips curling.
It was Zhou Linâs turn. He tapped lightly with a calm expression. Result was “5”. He raised a brow, seeming to have victory in hand.
Finally, it was Lin Moâs turn. He picked up the phone, face expressionless, fingertips tapping lightly. The dice spun rapidly on the screen, finally stopping slowly.
A bright red “6”.
Lin Mo looked up, calmly looking at Tang Xingye, then sweeping over the three beside him with varying expressions. The corner of his lip hooked imperceptibly.
Thus, the candidate to go back to the hometown was decided. Looking at this result, Tang Xingye couldn’t say whether he was relieved or had a bigger headache. At least, Lin Mo was the one who spoke relatively the least among them.
The journey back to the hometown was slightly bumpy. Lin Mo indeed didn’t talk much, just silently taking charge of all itinerary triflesâbooking tickets, hailing cars, carrying luggageâdoing everything meticulously.
The old house in the hometown hadn’t been lived in for a long time. Pushing open the door, there was a faint smell of dust. Tang Xingye skillfully opened windows for ventilation, while Lin Mo put down the luggage, rolled up his sleeves, and silently began to help wipe the dust off the tables and chairs. There was no extra communication between the two, yet Tang Xingye vaguely felt Lin Moâs unusual excitement.
Half-asleep, Tang Xingye felt a wet heat on his face. Opening his eyes blankly, he saw Lin Mo stealing a taste.
Tang Xingye: “…”
He kicked Lin Mo off the bed and sat up.
Lin Mo fell to the ground off guard, face stiff for a moment. He quickly leaned back against the bedside silently. “Baby.”
“Mn.” He wanted to hear what explanation this person could give.
Lin Mo seemed completely unaffected by the kick just now, his tone carrying excitement: “Going to visit the grave.”
Tang Xingye: “…”
He was choked into speechlessness by this overly direct and weird answer. He really couldn’t understand what Lin Mo was excited about. Visiting a grave, and his family’s grave at thatâwhat was there to be happy about?
“Meeting the parent,” Lin Mo grabbed Tang Xingyeâs wrist, fingertips even unconsciously rubbing the base of his ring finger. “Does your family… have any customs?”
Tang Xingye: “…”
His grandma’s greatest wish when alive was for him to differentiate into an indomitable Alpha, then marry a gentle and virtuous Omega. Bringing an Alpha to her now, she might wake up from anger.
Tang Xingye: “When did I say meeting the parent?”
Lin Mo froze.
Tang Xingye realized suddenly. No wonder Lin Mo was so excited; he had misunderstood.
“I thought your rolling the dice meant this.” Lin Mo let go as if struck, lowering his brows, visibly disappointed. Couldn’t see living parents, seeing dead ones was good too.
Not fighting or snatching was impossible. Peaceful coexistence was just a temporary strategy of retreat. Given the chance, Lin Mo naturally wanted to tie the person’s heart to himself.
He hadn’t thought Tang Xingye just came back simply to burn incense, never thinking of giving him a title.
A trace of dark cold light passed through Lin Moâs eyes. On second thought, it would be the same if others came; Tang Xingye wasn’t favoring one over another.
Lin Mo showed just the right amount of loneliness, like a big dog soaked by rain.
Tang Xingye blinked, thinking of something. “Here, only for marriage do you need to meet the head of the household.”
Lin Mo: “…”
Does that mean Tang Xingye bringing him back to visit the grave doesn’t count now, and he plans to bring others through this process later?! One a year?!
As he gritted his teeth secretly, Tang Xingye suddenly reached out and touched Lin Moâs face. Lin Mo cooperated very well, bending down to make it easier for him to touch.
“My family only has me left. If you insist on a head of household, I am.”
With a light sentence, Lin Moâs eyes lit up again.
“Since you’re awake, let’s head out early. The sun is hot at noon.” Tang Xingye withdrew his hand, getting out of bed to wash up.
Lin Mo lowered his eyes, hooking the corners of his mouth.
The mountain road wound. Tang Xingye walked in front, Lin Mo following a step behind, gaze sweeping around, corresponding everything before him with the sparse information about Tang Xingye bit by bit.
