Chapter 06 – Unspeakable Feelings (Going Crazy)
To avoid the sight of the patrol police, the two took a detour through some obscure, winding alleys.
Having grown up in this area, they were naturally very familiar with the intricate layout of the alleyways.
But as they ran, Shen Yan inexplicably slowed down and slowly sniffed towards Gu Zhuoran.
His movement wasn’t large, but Gu Zhuoran still noticed it.
Gu Zhuoran took a slight step back, pausing as he asked, “What is it, smell blood?”
He knew Shen Yan was a clean freak, and he instinctively went to sniff his own scent.
But in such heavy rain, any strong scent should have already been washed away.
Shen Yan opened his mouth, wanting to speak but hesitating, unsure of what to say.
Because in the middle of the rainstorm, he actually smelled a strange scent—neither the smell of smoke nor the metallic tang of blood.
It was an intense, fiery aroma, like the last lingering sparks of a fire hanging in the air.
It was a scent he had never smelled before. Shen Yan couldn’t name it, but his intuition told him that it was what people called pheromones.
Only… the scent was already heavily diluted by the rain.
“Never mind,” Shen Yan decided he must have smelled wrong. How could he possibly smell Gu Zhuoran’s pheromones?
If he really smelled them, that would mean he had presented.
Just as their figures disappeared into the small alley, the voices of the patrol police passed by.
“Let’s go,” Shen Yan tugged at Gu Zhuoran, telling him to keep up.
But for some unknown reason, during this very ordinary motion, not only did Shen Yan fail to pull Gu Zhuoran along, but his own body unexpectedly went limp, and he almost planted face-first into the rain.
“!”
Gu Zhuoran subconsciously reached out both arms to catch him, pulling Shen Yan into a full embrace.
A faint, cold fragrance unexpectedly slipped into Gu Zhuoran’s nose, making his mind sway.
Gu Zhuoran sensitively realized this was the same pheromone he had smelled during the physical examination.
This was undoubtedly an Omega’s pheromone.
If it were a fellow Alpha’s pheromones, it wouldn’t be this soul-stirring; it would only invoke hostility.
The pheromone’s scent was cold and clear, exactly like the crisp, woody scent of a snow-white Longdan flower, deeply intoxicating the soul.
However, the amount of the pheromone wasn’t large. It felt more like Shen Yan had accidentally brushed against some Omega, yet after running in the rain for so long, the scent still hadn’t faded.
Just how did it get on him…
Gu Zhuoran’s eyes darkened. The depths of his profound, icy-blue eyes were filled with suppression and gloom, flickering dangerously.
He steadied Shen Yan and immediately let go, rubbing the lingering scent off his fingers as if he had touched something dirty.
“You…” Gu Zhuoran originally wanted to ask when Shen Yan had come into contact with an Omega.
But the words died on his lips. It would be too weird to say. What right did he have to manage Shen Yan?
With Shen Yan’s strength and physical condition, it was only a matter of time before he presented as an Alpha. It was normal for him to have his own Omega.
Shen Yan was very outstanding. His father had been a top-tier Alpha, and top-tier Alpha genes flowed in his blood. In the future, he would definitely become an outstanding warrior like his father.
Of course, even without his bloodline, Shen Yan’s decade of unwavering hard work was enough to make him outstanding.
As for himself, he was just a disappointing childhood playmate.
Thinking of this, Gu Zhuoran’s heart suddenly turned cold, stifled, and congested… he almost wanted to go crazy!
The words he couldn’t say, the emotions he couldn’t express, constantly trapped him in darkness, gradually dragging him into the abyss.
It felt as if he would explode the moment a fuse was lit.
He suddenly grabbed Shen Yan’s hand, asking in a hoarse, strained voice, “Who was it?”
“Hey… that hurts. Are you crazy? Let go!” Shen Yan protested in a low voice.
Suddenly, a shout came from the other side of the alley.
“Found them, they’re over there!” The patrol police had tracked them down.
“Run!” Ignoring the other party’s weird behavior, Shen Yan quickly grabbed him back and continued running…

Chapter 07 – Heart-Piercing Questioning
The two figures wove through the narrow alleys of Xiacheng Qu in the pouring rain.
Centuries ago, Earth was affected by energy from an alternate dimension, forcefully plunging it into the Black Gold Era.
The once-civilized cities were destroyed, Earth’s population plummeted, and dark creatures spawned.
Because humanity needed to resist the dark creatures to survive, Alphas, possessing tremendous power, seized absolute rule over the new world.
The survivors lived within safe zones known as ‘Feicheng’.
For this massive metropolis—comprised of the suspended, circular Shangcheng Qu and the enormous Xiacheng Qu—gaining the qualifications to ascend to Shangcheng Qu as soon as possible was everyone’s dream.
And the most direct method was the Tongkao.
However, a candidate’s record had to be clean.
Otherwise, they would lose their examination qualifications.
Even something like the crime of provoking trouble would be put on record.
This was exactly why Gu Zhuoran was desperately dragging Shen Yan along to run.
He didn’t care about himself, but Shen Yan absolutely couldn’t have a bad record.
The patrol police affiliated with Shangcheng Qu had always been experts at chasing down fugitives, but today, they failed.
The two suspects in the rain ran incredibly fast. After chasing them for a few blocks, they completely lost them.
“Spit! In this heavy rain, those two little brats sure run fast!” one of the patrol police cursed.
“Cough, cough, it looks like they are very familiar with this area,” another patrolman analyzed, panting heavily.
“Familiarity is one thing, but the fact that we couldn’t catch up to them proves their abilities are very strong,” the last patrolman said.
“Fuck, were they top-tier Alphas?” The second patrolman punched the wall in dissatisfaction.
The patrol police from Shangcheng Qu were all Betas, and top-tier Betas at that.
They had all undergone extreme training. Logically, catching up to ordinary Alphas shouldn’t have been an issue.
But today, they had bizarrely lost their targets.
This only proved that those two kids were incredibly strong.
By this time, the two who had shaken off their pursuers had already run back to Gu Zhuoran’s small nest.
In a narrow alley, an old room of less than forty square meters was the place Gu Zhuoran had lived alone for all these years.
The two charged into the room, panting heavily, not even daring to turn on the lights. The room was dark and cold.
“Come inside and hide for a bit. You can go back when they’ve gone far away,” Gu Zhuoran said, keeping his head down as he hastily tidied up his messy doghouse.
Shen Yan stood at the entrance, peering into the dim light at the familiar yet unfamiliar little room.
When he was a child, he would often come here to play with Gu Zhuoran. But after the other boy presented, he had never visited again.
The room was still the same room, and its contents hadn’t changed much, but it was so messy it was hard to look at, as if a hurricane had swept through.
The old black single sofa was cluttered with random things—nutrient pouches, magazines, and clothes—while the only bed fit for sleeping on was littered with crumpled wads of used tissue paper.
“How did your room get so messy? I remember you having good habits,” Shen Yan asked quietly.
Gu Zhuoran’s body stiffened. How could he dare tell Shen Yan the truth?
The closer they got to the Tongkao, the more unstable his mental state became. He was on the verge of a breakdown and only dared to vent his madness inside this small room.
“When you live alone for a long time, you forget some habits.”
“Did you forget our promise too?” Shen Yan suddenly interrogated, his words piercing right to the heart.
“No.” Gu Zhuoran paused, tossing some trash into a plastic bag.
“You didn’t forget?” Shen Yan pulled out the slightly damp medical examination form from his wet backpack and shook it. “Then what is this?”
Gu Zhuoran shot it a shocked glance, then slowly lowered his head in self-deprecation. “I don’t want to participate in the Tongkao anymore.”
Hearing this, a string in Shen Yan’s brain snapped.
He violently hauled Gu Zhuoran up by the collar, his fists clenched tight, and gritted out through clenched teeth, “You brat… why?!”
He truly wanted to punch Gu Zhuoran awake. The Tongkao… they had clearly agreed to take it together and work hard together. And this bastard was saying he wouldn’t take it just like that!
Gu Zhuoran’s silence almost made Shen Yan spit blood in anger.
“Do whatever you want!” Shen Yan roared, then slammed the door, charging out into the rain and leaving.
Gu Zhuoran stood frozen in the small room for a long time. Suddenly, he reached up to cover his face, immersed in an agonizing pain he couldn’t control.
If he had a choice, he wouldn’t want things to be this way either.
Shen Yan had no idea what he was agonizing over!
