Chapter 10 – The Belated Heaven-Sent Grand Gift
Bang—!
The heavy sound of the door closing indicated that Shen Yan’s anger had not yet subsided.
Gu Zhuoran, who was left holding a birthday gift he couldn’t deliver, slightly shrank his pupils.
He stood quietly in front of the door and slowly uncurled his palm, revealing a credit point card inside.
It was the credit points he had saved up over several years, having long planned to give it to Shen Yan on the day he came of age.
Because he knew that once Shen Yan presented as an Alpha, he would definitely be able to test into the Combat Academy of the Expeditionary Army.
But the Combat Academy was a place that devoured money.
As a warrior, whether it was weapons or equipment, everything required money—which meant credit points.
With the financial conditions of Shen Yan’s family, they simply couldn’t support such high consumption.
Shen Yan’s only way out would be to risk his life working illegal black-market jobs.
Gu Zhuoran… couldn’t bear to let him suffer that kind of hardship.
Over the past few years, he had secretly found ways to save up some credit points, just enough to give Shen Yan a little breathing room.
He originally wanted to give it to him in person, but looking at it now, he probably wouldn’t have the chance.
Gu Zhuoran stared dejectedly at the credit point card in his hand and waited for a long time.
But the door didn’t budge. There were only some rustling sounds coming from inside.
Separated by only a single wall, with Gu Zhuoran’s strength as a top-tier Alpha, if he released his pheromones to probe, he could clearly figure out what the person inside was doing.
But this was Shen Yan’s home. He didn’t dare, nor did he want to.
Doing so would undoubtedly be an offense to the other party; he couldn’t even get past the hurdle in his own heart.
Gu Zhuoran waited quietly until late at night, but no one opened the door.
Finally, he knocked lightly twice, then crouched down and slipped the credit point card through the crack under the door.
But just as he slid the card in, a sudden thump came from behind the door, sounding like someone collapsing to the floor.
“Shen Yan!?” Gu Zhuoran called out, only to hear pained groans coming from inside.
Gu Zhuoran could tell that was Shen Yan’s voice.
But why would he fall?
Was he just careless?
Gu Zhuoran faintly felt something was wrong.
Shen Yan was a very meticulous person. How could he possibly fall in his own home?
Gu Zhuoran subconsciously pressed his ear against the door, listening to the movements inside.
The groaning inside was intermittent and indistinct, but it sounded entirely abnormal.
Those groans sounded like whimpering; mixed within the fragmented, muffled grunts were hoarse gasps. It sounded wrong no matter how he listened.
“Shen Yan, Shen Yan!”
Gu Zhuoran couldn’t care less about anything else. He pounded heavily on the door.
But the doors in D9 Qu were made of special materials. Gu Zhuoran couldn’t bust it open with physical strength alone.
The more anxious he became, the more he lost his composure. A trace of bloodshot red gradually surfaced in his blue eyes, and the pheromones around his body exploded instantly. Black-blue flames struck the main door bizarrely.
Bang—!
The moment the door sprang open, Gu Zhuoran rushed straight in.
Sure enough, about five meters behind the door, Shen Yan was lying on the floor in agony.
“Shen Yan, where does it hurt?” Gu Zhuoran didn’t dare touch Shen Yan casually, afraid he was injured somewhere. He slowly turned him over to check.
There was no blood on his body or the floor, but Shen Yan’s face was flushed red. He looked as miserable as a steamed shrimp, suffering terribly.
With Gu Zhuoran’s aura so close, Shen Yan suddenly felt the pain in his body intensify.
No, it wasn’t just pain; it was some kind of maddening tearing sensation.
That tearing sensation from inside his body felt like a hand violently shredding something inside him.
Shen Yan was in so much pain that he broke into a cold sweat all over his body, yet a scorching breath surged relentlessly within him.
Leaning against Gu Zhuoran, he bit his lip and shook his head, too pained to utter a single word.
Gu Zhuoran’s heart instantly sank…

Chapter 11 – The Belated Heaven-Sent Grand Gift
Gu Zhuoran immediately took off his outerwear and wrapped Shen Yan tightly.
Then, he carefully picked the person up with both hands. “I’m taking you to the hospital.”
Upon hearing this, Shen Yan instantly grabbed the thin shirt at Gu Zhuoran’s chest and stopped him with a trembling voice, “No, don’t go… to the hospital.”
“You’re in this much pain; you have to go get looked at no matter what,” Gu Zhuoran said anxiously.
“Even so, I’m not going. If you dare take me to the hospital, from now on… don’t ever speak a single word to me!” Shen Yan’s stubbornness was headache-inducing.
What was the most expensive thing in Xiacheng Qu?
Medical expenses, of course.
Residents of Shangcheng Qu had basic medical insurance, but the residents of Xiacheng Qu did not.
No matter what illness they had, they had to pay out of their own pockets, and it cost a lot of money.
Going to the hospital… would only make things harder for his mother.
Just as Shen Yan finished saying this, another wave of excruciating colic ripped through his body, making him scream in pain.
“Ah—!”
This cry brought pain to Shen Yan and sheer terror to Gu Zhuoran.
In all his life, it was the first time Gu Zhuoran had experienced the feeling of having his soul scared out of his body.
He froze at the door. He couldn’t leave, but he couldn’t stay either. He had no idea what to do.
Holding Shen Yan, he felt the person in his arms trembling from the pain. It was as if the pain were contagious, causing his own heart to clench and tear with every beat. But he knew Shen Yan’s stubbornness best; he didn’t dare defy Shen Yan’s wishes either.
Left with no choice, Gu Zhuoran settled for the next best thing and asked, “Then we won’t go to the hospital. I’ll take you to the clinic of a physician I know.”
Shen Yan’s eyelids were covered in sweat from the pain. Hearing this, he struggled slightly, lifting his eyelids to stare at Gu Zhuoran for a long moment. “When… did you get to know a physician? Why didn’t I know about this?”
Gu Zhuoran pursed his lips, rendered speechless.
Bringing that up would trace back a long way. He didn’t want Shen Yan to know about that complicated and chaotic past.
Gu Zhuoran pressed his lips together and slightly lowered his head, looking at Shen Yan pleadingly. “Let’s get you treated first, okay?”
This time, Shen Yan absolutely refused to answer.
Moreover, he even struggled to get down from Gu Zhuoran’s embrace.
This terrified Gu Zhuoran. He quickly hugged the person tighter, terrified that Shen Yan would actually fall.
During their tug-of-war, that faint, cold, and secluded fragrance appeared on Shen Yan’s body once again, and this time the concentration was even stronger.
Gu Zhuoran subconsciously hugged him tighter, but he was caught completely off guard by this scent.
He held Shen Yan in shock, smelling the scent coming from the back of the other’s neck. For a moment, as if possessed, he leaned in and sniffed.
“What are you doing?” Shen Yan was in agonizing pain, and Gu Zhuoran’s sniffing made him feel even more uncomfortable. The glands at the back of his neck were very sensitive. He frowned and snapped fiercely.
“You…”
Gu Zhuoran panted slightly, desperately trying to control the abnormality being drawn out of him. He almost instantly broke out in a layer of sweat.
The sweat slid slowly down his cheeks and fell silently onto Shen Yan’s hair with a patter.
The sweat seeped into the slightly damp, tea-colored hair, quietly bleeding into the strands until it vanished completely.
“Why do you smell like the sun…” Shen Yan faintly smelled a burning scent.
Shen Yan wanted to look up to see clearly, but his head was forcefully held down by Gu Zhuoran.
Gu Zhuoran ruthlessly bit down on his own tongue with a clack, swallowing the welling blood back down his throat. He forcefully suppressed the instinctive restlessness surging within his body and his heart that felt like it was going to jump out of his chest.
“I’ll carry you into the bedroom,” Gu Zhuoran said in a muffled voice, taking a moment as his temples throbbed.
Shen Yan was in terrible pain and lacked the strength to resist Gu Zhuoran’s power at this moment. He only gave a slight nod.
Gu Zhuoran moved quickly, kicking the bedroom door open and shutting it with a bang.
The smell of the sun… there was no mistaking it. That was the unique scent of his own pheromones.
But an un-presented person couldn’t smell pheromones.
Only… only someone who was presenting could smell them.
The thing he feared most had happened.
Shen Yan had presented!
