Chapter 44: Giant Panda
Her words suddenly reminded Su Miantang of the absurd scene she woke up to after drinking at the Earl’s estate family banquet.
Although she was very certain nothing had happened, when she showered, she found her body completely covered in the familiar scents of eagle and wolf.
Very heavily.
As if they had been in zero-distance contact, just like when she was soothing their estrus.
“Are you reminiscing?”
Catherine suddenly leaned in close, giving Su Miantang a fright.
“I’ve fantasized about it long ago. They are military males! You don’t even need to think to know how strong they are and how exquisite the taste must be…”
Su Miantang simply put on her headphones, closed her eyes, and lay back in the massage chair, refusing to listen to her filthy words.
The royal aircraft sure is luxurious; much more comfortable than my standard model.
“Stop playing dead, get up!”
She had eaten all the good meat, and now she wouldn’t even listen to a few complaints!
Where in the world was there such a good deal?
Catherine was just about to pull her up when she heard Su Miantang say faintly, “I’m sleepy. If I don’t rest well, my brain will suffer damage, and I might just forget the whitening formula.”
“…”
Threatening her?
Catherine wanted to claw at that bewitching face, but she forcefully held herself back for the sake of her pale skin.
By the time she woke up, they had arrived at the Royal Palace.
Following the mechanical soldiers, Su Miantang stepped off the aircraft and saw the rolling, majestic Royal Palace. Circular domes, marble pillars, beast totems, and lion-head turretsāeverywhere whispered of prosperity and extravagance. Even the paving bricks underfoot seemed to radiate a golden light.
She had previously overlooked such a magnificent scene while riding on Fred’s back, but standing in the midst of it now brought an entirely different feeling.
Seeing the amazed light in her eyes, Catherine’s repeatedly battered ego was finally deeply satisfied. “You parentless, powerless orphan female have never seen such a scene, have you? Country bumpkin.”
Su Miantang: “…” I have seen the White House, actually.
“Just look, but don’t get any ideas. You will never have the chance to live here in your entire life unless… you catch the eye of a certain Prince.”
“What a pity, though. Even a prince of the most humble origins and the lowest grade wouldn’t look twice at a female without pheromones. Stop your wishful thinking; you’re only fit to be my foot-washing maid!”
Su Miantang had never met someone so capable of imagining things out of thin air. She walked straight toward the palace.
“Someone, go fetch the Whitening Dew!”
“Remember, Lu Sili is not allowed in. He is not to take even a half-step inside!”
She deliberately raised her voice on the words “Lu Sili”, as if afraid Su Miantang wouldn’t hear.
“Yes, Your Highness!”
Fengyang Pavilion.
The guards brought the Whitening Dew, operating tools, and a large bundle of mysterious chemical reagents.
Su Miantang changed into her work uniform, put on her gloves and goggles, and began operating on the glassware with a pile of potions. Her calm, professional, and serious demeanor left Catherine dumbfounded.
It really did look like the real deal.
Before this, she absolutely refused to believe that a place like the National Academy of Sciences would employ a female, but now it felt real.
She just didn’t know if the girl could actually formulate anything useful.
As she watched, she grew angry again.
Because she noticed that she wasn’t the only one watching. A group of male concubines were also constantly lifting their heads to secretly peek at Su Miantang, as if they had never seen such a beautiful and unique female.
She had tolerated it on the way into the palace.
Everyone had been whispering and discussing Su Miantang, using words like ‘beautiful’, ‘graceful’, and ‘ethereal’. Not a single gaze had landed on her.
Now back in the pavilion, even her own consorts were acting improperly!
“Done.”
Su Miantang walked over to Catherine carrying the mixed mud mask and picked up a spatula.
“Lift your head and close your eyes. I’m going to begin.”
“What is this?”
“A face mask.”
Su Miantang knew the medical aesthetics industry on the Central Star was backward, but she didn’t expect it to be this backwardāthey didn’t even know what a face mask was.
“You apply it to your face. After a while, when you wash it off, you’ll find your skin has become delicate and glowing.”
“I also added Whitening Dew to it, which has a brightening effect.”
“Apply it to me quickly!”
Catherine lifted her head, unable to wait any longer.
Su Miantang picked up the spatula and meticulously spread it bit by bit. Just as half her face was covered, Catherine suddenly flew into a rage again. “You’re still looking!”
“If you dare peek again, I’ll gouge out all your eyeballs and soak them in wine!”
Startled, Su Miantang’s hand trembled, thinking the medicine had already taken effect so quickly.
Only after listening did she realize Catherine was scolding her male concubines. It was a good thing Fred and Enzo hadn’t been taken in; otherwise, with their fierce temperaments, they definitely wouldn’t have lasted a few days.
As she was thinking, Catherine grabbed her wrist. “You really enjoy the feeling of people looking at you, don’t you? Deliberately showing off your charms in front of my male concubines!”
Su Miantang, who was just doing manual labor: “?”
“Get out!”
“I know the basic application method now. I’ll have my male concubines apply it for me!”
Su Miantang: “…”
She couldn’t quite grasp her logic.
Her male concubines were the ones peeking at her; shouldn’t she be telling them to get out?
Whatever, she was happy to have the free time. She took off her gloves and walked out of Fengyang Pavilion.
It was rare to enter the Royal Palace, so she ought to properly enjoy the beautiful scenery here.
Catherine cursed ‘fox spirit’ at her back, then pointed to a grey fox nearby. “You, come over here and apply the mask for me.”
Su Miantang walked from the magnificent palaces to the colorful back gardens, eventually arriving at a fresh, elegant, and exceptionally tranquil emerald bamboo forest.
She spread her arms, relaxed her body, and went in to breathe the fresh air. As she walked… she unexpectedly spotted a faint black and white figure through the shadows.
T-that… is that a giant panda?
She instantly stopped in her tracks, her entire being trembling with excitement.
She loved giant pandas the most!
Back on Earth, she frequently visited various zoos to see them. She could recite every single one’s name, characteristics, and living habits backward.
She never imagined that such rare animals existed here too.
She even less expected the royal family to be so extravagant as to keep a national treasure captive as a pet.
Suppressing her excitement, she slowly approached it to confirm!
It really was!
Its ears twitched!
With its back to her, its ears were fluffy, its body round, and its clean, flowing fur was black and white. From afar, it looked like a soft, sticky triangular rice ball, or a black sesame molten tangyuan. It was simply too adorable, making one unable to resist the urge to hug it, squish it, and rub it to see if it was really that soft.
With this thought, she looked around, her thieving heart swelling.
Back on Earth, no matter how much you loved them, you could only observe them from a distance through glass and could never touch them. But here…
