Chapter 96: Fei-ge, I don’t feel pain
Lin Qingyan had just gotten out of the bathtub, wiped himself dry, and as he was putting on his pants, he fell due to imbalance, landing on his bottom on the cold, wet floor, and the clothes next to him also fell down.
He was just about to get up, using the edge of the bathtub, when the bathroom door opened. Realizing his current state, he hurriedly asked Gu Fei to leave.
But Gu Fei walked straight in. He picked up a bath towel from the rack, spread it out and wrapped it around the naked young man, carrying him out horizontally.
Lin Qingyan’s mind was about to explode. He fluttered, his trembling voice filled with panic, “I’m fine, put me down!”
Gu Fei looked down at him, his low voice carrying an unquestionable tone, “Obey.”
Lin Qingyan froze, then stopped moving, tightly closing his eyes, his head buried deep in the man’s chest. His exposed ears were red, almost bleeding.
It was so embarrassing. Gu Fei must have seen everything, it was so embarrassing!
Gu Fei didn’t have any improper thoughts, only worrying about whether the person in his arms was badly hurt, what if he hit his head again? He shouldn’t have let Lin Qingyan shower alone.
He put the person in his arms on the bed. Once free, Lin Qingyan immediately pulled the bath towel tight, wrapping himself tightly, revealing only a flushed little face and fair little legs.
The young man looked at the man standing by the bed with a frightened expression, his peach blossom eyes, as if soaked in water, filled with vigilance, as if the man before him was some kind of indecent flower thief about to assault a virtuous young man.
Gu Fei: “…”
Lin Qingyan timidly said, “Fei-ge… c-can you go out first? I can put on my clothes myself.”
“I need to check if you’re injured.” Gu Fei sat by the bed, reaching out to clasp the back of the young man’s neck. His facial muscles were tense as he carefully examined the injury at the back of the young man’s head; there seemed to be nothing wrong on the surface.
“I didn’t hit my head.” Lin Qingyan explained.
Gu Fei: “Where did you fall?”
“Um…” Lin Qingyan didn’t answer directly this time. It seemed like something difficult to say; he stammered, hesitating for a moment before saying, “My bu… butt.”
He had fallen on his butt on the floor.
Seeing his embarrassed look, Gu Fei’s eyes flashed with a hint of amusement. “Fei-ge will check you.” He said, then started to lift the bath towel on Lin Qingyan.
Lin Qingyan naturally protected himself tightly, “I’m fine! No need to check!”
Gu Fei mercilessly uttered two words, “No way.”
Lin Qingyan: “I don’t hurt at all!”
“Good, let me see.”
“I don’t hurt, really!” As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Qingyan was turned over. Seeing Gu Fei about to pull away his bath towel, he blurted out in a hurry, “I don’t feel pain!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Gu Fei paused.
Lin Qingyan, seizing this opportunity, turned over, quickly clutching the loose bath towel. The next moment, his shoulder was grasped. “YanYan, what did you just mean?”
The man’s gaze was fixed on him, his brow slightly furrowed, his expression puzzled and serious.
Lin Qingyan’s heart skipped a beat. He belatedly realized what he had just said. His gaze began to waver, as if avoiding the question, “Nothing.”
Gu Fei cupped his face, looking directly into the young man’s slightly flickering eyes. His voice was somewhat low, “You said you don’t feel pain? What do you mean?”
Lin Qingyan knew he couldn’t hide it anymore. He hadn’t said anything because he didn’t want Gu Fei to worry. He had gotten used to not feeling pain for so many years, and it didn’t seem like a big deal.
No one in the world knew this except himself.
But seeing the man’s current expression, Lin Qingyan felt a little heavy. He lowered his eyes, “It’s literally what it means. I was born without the sense of pain. No matter what I do, I don’t feel pain. So, when I fell down the stairs that day, I didn’t feel any pain either.”
Saying this, he looked up at Gu Fei again, only to see the man’s expression becoming even more serious. He couldn’t help but smile, “Actually, it’s not a big deal. Don’t worry. I’ve lived a good life all these years, haven’t I?”
It was like comforting Gu Fei, and also comforting himself.
He had thought many times that if he had some kind of disease and couldn’t feel it, he might die unexpectedly one day. He should live one day at a time.
Perhaps heaven favored him, allowing him to live peacefully for nineteen years… no, twenty-four years.
However, Gu Fei was as if struck by lightning. Fear, tension, and helplessness appeared on his usually calm and composed face.
Lin Qingyan tentatively called out, “Fei-ge?”
Gu Fei: “YanYan, are you joking with Fei-ge?”
Lin Qingyan: “No…”
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier!?”
Gu Fei suddenly gripped his shoulders tightly, complex emotions surging in his deep eyes. He tried his best to control his emotions, but his voice still trembled slightly, “YanYan, why?”
Lin Qingyan had never seen Gu Fei like this. He froze, “I just didn’t want you to worry…” and he hadn’t found a suitable opportunity to tell him.
This awkward situation was not a good time to tell him this. He began to regret why he had been so impulsive and said it in this situation, not even wearing clothes.
He cautiously observed Gu Fei’s expression. The man’s expression hadn’t changed much, but he could feel a low-pressure atmosphere beneath the calm surface.
“It’s really alright, don’t worry,” Lin Qingyan said persuasively, “Fei-ge, let’s talk about this later, can you go out first?”
The young man’s emotions were written all over his face. Gu Fei looked at his nervous and uneasy expression, and finally said nothing, turning silently towards the dressing room.
Lin Qingyan’s heart still fluttered, watching the dressing room closely. After a while, Gu Fei came out, holding a set of clothes, and walked back to the bed.
Gu Fei: “Put on your clothes first.”
“I can put them on myself…” Lin Qingyan’s voice grew smaller and smaller, lacking confidence. In the end, he gave up struggling; Gu Fei’s current appearance made him a little afraid, so he obediently obeyed.
He loosened his grip on the bath towel, looking up at the man, his watery eyes filled with uneasiness and nervousness, looking somewhat pitiful, like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.
Although his expression was grim, the man’s movements were gentle and meticulous. Lin Qingyan blushed and closed his eyes, obediently following his instructions, raising his arms and legs as instructed, finally getting dressed.
But the price was being completely seen.
He had just opened his eyes, his heartbeat not yet returned to normal, when his body was lifted into the air because Gu Fei had picked him up horizontally and walked silently out.
“Fei-ge, where are you taking me?”
The man’s light scent lingered in his nostrils. Lin Qingyan’s body stiffened. From his angle, he could see the man’s tense jawline and tightly pursed lips.
“Hospital.” Gu Fei concisely uttered two words, his steps never pausing.
Lin Qingyan understood his intentions but still persuaded him with difficulty, “It’s already night; let’s go tomorrow.” Even if they needed a checkup, the doctors would have already left work.
Gu Fei: “No way.”
If he didn’t go now, he wouldn’t be at ease all night.
The moment he realized the danger of not feeling pain, Gu Fei’s heart skipped a beat. Worry, fear, tension, and dread filled his mind.
He was afraid, so afraid that his body trembled slightly. He tried his best to control his emotions, so that he appeared outwardly calm.
Gu Fei took a deep breath, tightening his arms around the young man, quickening his pace downstairs.
Lin Qingyan also seemed to sense the man’s emotions. He felt complicated, his nose slightly sour. He ultimately didn’t refuse; if it would make Gu Fei feel at ease.
“Fei-ge, let me walk myself.”
Gu Fei looked at Lin Qingyan’s bare feet. When they reached downstairs, he sat the person in his arms on the sofa, turned around to get his shoes, and put them on for him personally.
“Gu Ye, where are you going?”
Butler Shen, hearing the commotion, came over. Seeing Gu Ye, usually aloof and elegant, squatting down to put shoes on the young man, he was both surprised and moved. He hadn’t expected Gu Ye to have this day.
Gu Fei had just finished putting on Lin Qingyan’s shoes and was leading him outside, when he said to Butler Shen, “To the hospital. Please have someone drive us.”
“Mm, alright.” Although he didn’t know what was going on, Butler Shen quickly followed.
The night was hazy, the dark blue sky overcast.
An expensive sedan drove on the highway, Butler Shen driving, Lin Qingyan and Gu Fei sitting in the back.
After getting in the car, Gu Fei called the hospital and then didn’t speak again. His features were already deep and cold, and now shrouded in a low-pressure atmosphere, making people even more apprehensive.
Lin Qingyan wasn’t afraid anymore. He knew Gu Fei was just worried about him.
No one had ever cared about him like this. That’s why he had hidden his lack of pain from everyone. Because he knew that even if others knew, they would only be surprised and offer a cursory show of concern.
And in his past twenty-odd years of life, including his past life, no one had cared about him like Gu Fei.
Facing Gu Fei’s gloomy expression, Lin Qingyan’s eyes reddened. He gently grasped the man’s hand resting on his leg, his head leaning against the man’s shoulder.
“Gu Fei, I won’t let anything happen to myself.”
The young man’s voice was soft and gentle, like a feather falling on Gu Fei’s heart. His expression gradually softened, returning the grip on the young man’s fair and soft hand.
Gu Fei gently placed his hand on Lin Qingyan’s face, his fingertip lightly caressing the reddened corner of his eye. His voice was low and hoarse:
“I’m sorry, Fei-ge scared you.”
