Chapter 10: That Would Be Great
People who like cars can’t move when they see one, just like pet lovers seeing a pet.
Ye Ran stayed in the 4S shop for half an hour, and the salesperson was very enthusiastically introducing it to him.
“This is the new McLaren, limited to only 5 in the country. This car seamlessly blends the peak technology of the F1 track with the practical needs of road driving. Both the speed and the driving experience are superb…”
Ye Ran’s gaze was glued to the car, his eyes full of satisfaction.
Just as he was about to continue discussing the car’s performance with the salesperson, he was interrupted by a sudden voice. “Is that person Ye Ran?”
“It really is Ye Ran.”
“Long time no see. What is he doing here? Is he here for a work-study job?”
Ye Ran looked over.
The group of people were his high school classmates; he hadn’t seen them since graduation.
The person standing at the front was named Qin Cheng. His family owned a chain of supermarkets in Jing City. Although it couldn’t compare to the group companies of the wealthy, their economic strength was relatively okay.
Back in school, Qin Cheng was always at the bottom of the class. The only thing he could brag about was: “My family owns a chain of supermarkets.”
“My dad is called Qin Jian.”
“My dad drives a *** car.”
“My dad…”
In high school, Ye Ran hadn’t even remembered his full name; he had, however, remembered his father’s name.
Although Ye Ran had a short fuse, he never let it out in class; he only showed his young master temper when he was with people in the upper circles of Jing City.
Qin Cheng was different, comparing everything from food to clothes with the rest of the class to show his superiority.
The only person he could never get ahead of was Ye Ran.
At first, he felt that Ye Ran dressed quite low-key and that his family should just be an ordinary one, incomparable to him. He wanted to show off in front of him, but Ye Ran only gave him a faint glance, treating him as air.
Qin Cheng felt a sense of frustration at being ignored by a “peasant.” Based on his family’s conditions, who didn’t suck up to him? Some classmates’ parents knew his family had wide connections and wanted his dad to help with things, so the gifts they sent were like flowing water.
The people around him all called him “Cheng-ge,” but Ye Ran was the only one who didn’t buy it.
Qin Cheng thought to himself that he would definitely give Ye Ran a hard time one day. In the end, before he could act, he saw Chi Yuheng at the parent-teacher meeting.
At that time, Chi Yuheng had already taken over the Chengyi Group. Chi Yuheng’s identity as the heir to the Chi family alone was enough to make him stay away.
It was also that day he learned that Ye Ran was the third young master of the Ye family who was fostered in the Chi family. No wonder his gaze was full of disdain when looking at him.
But today was different. The whole of Jing City knew that Ye Ran was the child who had been switched. The Ye family’s grand recognition ceremony was nothing more than telling everyone that Qiao Yousheng was the real member of the Ye family.
Afterward, there were constant rumors that the Ye Hualin couple disliked Ye Ran and raised him outside, and that the Chi family only agreed to raise him for the sake of the previous friendship between the two families.
Now that the Ye family had reclaimed their biological daughter, Ye Ran himself had lost his value. Some speculated that the Chi family would soon kick him out as well.
How could Ye Ran, who had lost his protective umbrella, Chi Yuheng, compare to him now?
Initially, Qin Cheng’s lackey told him that Ye Ran must have been kicked out of the Chi family because he saw Ye Ran working as a bartender in a bar.
Qin Cheng was still half-skeptical and even intentionally found a perverted man to test him. Now that he saw Ye Ran in a 4S shop, he was certain of it.
Seeing the way Ye Ran was talking to the salesperson, it was clearly a new employee learning from an old one!
Someone like Ye Ran who had been spoiled must have offended the boss at the bar and been fired, which was why he found a new job.
Qin Cheng’s sense of superiority was overflowing. He walked over smugly to greet Ye Ran, “Ye Ran, long time no see. Why haven’t you contacted us since starting university? After all, we’re friends.”
Ye Ran narrowed his eyes at him and sneered, “I’ve never had a friend like you.”
Qin Cheng’s little lackey couldn’t listen anymore. “Ye Ran, how can you be so ungrateful? Our Cheng-ge only said you’re friends because he thinks highly of you…”
The words weren’t finished when he was interrupted by Qin Cheng’s fake act. “Don’t say that. What ‘thinks highly’ or ‘not’? Even if Ye Ran and I aren’t friends, we’re still classmates.”
“Ye Ran, I heard you were working in a bar a few days ago, which must have been quite hard. It’s certainly not as good as here; the environment is good and the income is decent. After working for a summer, your tuition for the next semester shouldn’t be a problem.”
“It just so happens that I’m buying a car today. Tell me which cars you sell, and I’ll buy one to help your performance.”
The salesperson didn’t understand what they were talking about, only understanding the last part, knowing that the person opposite seemed to have misunderstood.
“Sir, you’ve misunderstood…”
The salesperson’s words were cut off by Ye Ran. He seemed to have developed a playful interest as he looked at the person opposite. “Is your name Qin Jian?”
The lackey, seeing Ye Ran had said the wrong name, stepped up to show off in front of Qin Cheng. “How are you talking? How could our Cheng-ge have such a ‘cheap’ (Jian) name!”
As soon as he finished speaking, he received a slap on the back of his head. Qin Cheng gritted his teeth and glared at him. “Who said that name is cheap!”
Then he went to correct Ye Ran, “That’s my dad.”
Ye Ran: “Oh, sorry, I remembered wrong. Is your name Qin Shou (Beast)?”
This time, the lackey didn’t dare to speak, fearing that “Qin Shou” was his family’s grand uncle or something. If he said something wrong again, he’d get another slap.
Qin Cheng watched as his lackey gave him a look, the meaning being “You say it! Why aren’t you speaking when you should!”
Unfortunately, the lackey had his head lowered and didn’t look at him at all, perfectly missing his signal.
Qin Cheng had no choice but to say it himself, “You remembered wrong again. My name is Qin Cheng, not Qin Shou.”
Ye Ran ignored him and turned to look at the cars, and Qin Cheng’s words fell flat.
“Buying a car? Did you bring enough money?” Ye Ran asked.
Now the lackey was energized; he could answer this question.
“Who are you looking down on? Cheng-ge’s family owns a chain of supermarkets. Half of the supermarkets in Jing City belong to Cheng-ge’s family. How could he not have enough money?”
“And…” the lackey paused and looked back at Qin Cheng, as if asking for permission to speak.
Qin Cheng silently gave him a look to let him speak.
The lackey immediately stood tall and proud. “Cheng-ge won five million in the lottery a few days ago, which is enough to last you several lifetimes of work. Now he’s your God of Wealth. Cheng-ge knows you were kicked out of the Chi family and that it’s not easy to earn money, so why don’t you give Cheng-ge a good introduction? Don’t you want to earn the commission?”
Even the salesperson frowned at the lackey’s words; they weren’t just a bit unpleasant.
Although she didn’t know what this boy beside her had been through, she hated people who kicked others when they were down.
But society is just that cruel; there will always be people who dislike you, even if they’re strangers unrelated to you, and will always think of stepping on you to highlight their own height.
She looked at Ye Ran with some sympathy, hoping to give him some comfort.
But to her surprise, Ye Ran was calm.
“That would be great. Why don’t you look at this one? It’s the latest sports car, and it’s a limited edition in the country. I think it’s the most suitable for you.” Ye Ran used the set of words the salesperson had used on him just now.
Qin Cheng’s vanity had reached its peak at this moment, his heart feeling all kinds of good. He grinned, “It’s indeed not bad. I’ll just buy this one then.”
Ye Ran looked at the salesperson, who nodded and turned to Qin Cheng. “Alright, sir. This car is 13.8 million. You can pay here.”
