Part 2
Then he spoke: “Come here.”
Wen Rong walked over and stood beside him.
“Tell them what you were worrying about just now.”
“Huh?”
“Say it.”
Wen Rong: “…”
Even when facing cameras on the anniversary day, Wen Rong hadn’t been this nervous. Now, stared at by a group of people with serious expressions and upright postures, the pressure was immense.
“Is something the matter?” Someone in the crowd asked.
Wen Rong looked at Zhou Xie, meeting those gloomy eyes, and hurriedly retracted his gaze. His hands pressed tightly against his trouser seams, motionless.
He didn’t answer, so everyone in the classroom remained motionless, as if waiting for him.
Wen Rong couldn’t stand being stared at. His gaze drifted to the ground, and obeying Zhou Xie’s instruction, he spoke. “Good morning, everyone. I want to go see Shi Ye’s finals, but I can’t book flight tickets, tickets for the finals, or hotels. I wanted to ask if everyone could help me think of a way.”
Finishing in one breath, as his voice fell, stunned expressions appeared on everyone’s faces. Wen Rong immediately began to feel guilty.
He felt like a beggar standing on the street holding out a bowl for money.
Surprisingly, the people in the classroom didn’t show the disgust of passersby, but continued to be surprised.
“Just for this?”
“The President brought him in personally; I thought he was transferring to take classes with us.”
“Sure enough, what the forum said is true. Wen Rong has a foot in three boats.”
“But aren’t the three boats getting along a little too harmoniously? Why would the President allow him to go see Shi Ye’s finals?”
“Don’t understand, don’t understand. Maybe it’s a kink.”
Amidst the subtle yet enthusiastic murmurs, someone finally stood up. “My family is taking a charter flight that day. You can come with me.”
Once started, someone immediately followed. “It’s uncomfortable sitting in a private jet with others. I’ll get you a first-class ticket.”
“What kind of hotel do you like? Villa style? Suite? Need a pool?”
“What about seats? Where do you want to sit? Right in the center or behind Shi Ye?”
“Do you need binoculars?”
It was too enthusiastic. Wen Rong blinked his eyes, subconsciously looking at the only person he was familiar with in this strange classroom—
Zhou Xie coughed lightly twice, signaling everyone to be quiet.
The air settled. Zhou Xie spoke calmly, “Book one for me too, by the way.”
“You got it.”
“President, do you want to go horse riding while you’re at it? My family has a horse ranch over there.”
“Go play golf. There’s a nice golf course there.”
There were many more voices. Wen Rong was so noisy his brain was confused. Even after being led out of the classroom by Zhou Xie, he still couldn’t snap out of it.
He didn’t know what Zhou Xie meant by dragging him through this scene. Facing a situation he couldn’t understand gave him a feeling of being “struck” again. It was terrifying.
“Do you understand?”
Zhou Xie stopped in the corridor.
Wen Rong stopped as well. Because his eyes were too clear, they surpassed any verbal answer.
Zhou Xie’s brain throbbed with pain. He took a deep breath and explained patiently, “This is power. Directly say you want to go see Shi Ye’s match, and everyone will use the resources in their hands to solve the problem for you. No need to spend money, no need to look at guides, don’t even need to consider if tickets can still be bought at this time.”
“Others don’t get this treatment. Only you.”
Wen Rong seriously thought about Zhou Xie’s words. “Because you brought me in, they helped me out of respect for you?”
“Partly because of my identity as Student Council President, and partly because you are currently the student with the most prestige for Floriman Academy in the outside world.”
“Does identity give people power?”
“Yes, identity can give people power, but identity is something people fight for. If you hadn’t done what you did at the anniversary celebration, or if you hadn’t saved Shi Jing before, hadn’t saved that girl on the mountain, you wouldn’t have this identity.”
Wen Rong hesitated. “But them helping me buy plane tickets and hotels… they must have spent money. Are they spending money on me because they want me to do something in return?”
“You doing what you think is right is the return. For example, your proposal prompted school reform; they are all beneficiaries.”
Zhou Xie had worked with his father from an early age. His daily exposure determined that he hated idiots, especially those who didn’t understand the ways of the world.
But with Wen Rong asking so many whys in a row, his mood wasn’t terrible.
Various examples popped into his head, and he continued to guide him systematically. “If you were in the position of Student Council President from the beginning, you wouldn’t have needed to arrange so many plans for the anniversary. You could have prepared the materials and directly proposed to the school administration.”
Wen Rong listened attentively with his head cocked. At a certain moment, his mind cleared, and he suddenly became alert, stepping slightly away from Zhou Xie. “Why are you telling me this?”
Zhou Xie didn’t like his defensive posture. “Do you think I’m harming you?”
Wen Rong didn’t speak, which counted as tacit agreement.
Zhou Xie’s head hurt even more. Reaching into his pocket, he remembered there were no cigarettes, forcing him to take a deep breath to stabilize his emotions.
Hoo—
He exhaled. “Your current identity isn’t permanent. If you don’t take a step further, the power you fought so hard for will quickly disappear.”
“Oh!” Wen Rong realized suddenly. “You’re persuading me to join the Student Council.”
Zhou Xie: “……”
Zhou Xie: “Mn.”
“But I—”
“This is the best timing for you to enter the Student Council. It will absolutely never happen again. Think clearly before answering.”
“But I don’t know yet if I like the Student Council.”
He paused. “It should be whether I’m suitable.”
“I asked Leon. You studied math because your college entrance exam scores were good.”
Everything that happened that night of course selection quietly returned to Wen Rong’s mind. Perhaps it was too etched in his memory, for his heart actually ached faintly.
Wen Rong pursed his lips and lowered his head, even wanting to plug his ears.
Because Zhou Xie’s words were even harder to bear than Shi Ye’s. He had a premonition Zhou Xie would say something harsh.
But Wen Rong didn’t want to sit and wait for death. He defended himself: “Teacher Xu Qiu also said I could do it.”
“Relying solely on what others say?”
“…”
“Then I’m telling you now, your performance at the anniversary celebration was excellent. You are suitable for government work. Will you consider it?”
“Huh?” Wen Rong’s eyes widened. “Me?”
“Your appearance is an advantage, and your reputation has already been established throughout the Federation. Right now, looking through the whole school, we can’t find a more suitable school spokesperson than you.”
Zhou Xie continued, “If you join the Student Council, you can enter government work directly after graduation. With an excellent resume from school, you very likely could become the Federation Spokesperson.”
Such a big official.
Wen Rong’s brain held only this thought.
In the past eighteen years, he had seen many government officials. Each had a grand entourage, just like during the anniversary celebration—those groups of bodyguards and bulletproof cars looked so scary.
Wen Rong didn’t dare imagine he could become one of them.
His goal had always been to graduate smoothly, find a job, earn money to buy a house, just as Zhou Xie mocked yesterday—mediocre.
On his fair white neck, his Adam’s apple bobbed. “I…”
“I said no need to rush to answer. You are currently just using power. Wait until you’ve enjoyed power, then tell me if you want to join the Student Council.”
Buzz—
As if arranged, Zhou Xie’s phone rang.
He glanced down at the screen and repeated the content for Wen Rong. “They found you a private jet. You set the departure date; the flight path is available anytime. Hotels are indeed full, but someone keeps a manor over there; you can stay there temporarily that day. The finals seat is set in the first row near Shi Ye’s half of the court.”
“The finals only need one day. Go over Thursday night, and you can play until you come back Sunday night. That means you can treat this as a vacation. They suggested some sightseeing projects for you; I’ve sent them to your phone. Go back and look at them yourself.”
“S-So thoughtful.”
How was this different from winning an island tour in a mall lottery!
Wen Rong was completely dazed by the impact.
“Need time to think it over properly?”
“Mn…”
“Think hard. Tell me the result once you’ve thought it through.”
“O-Okay.”
Wen Rong nodded blankly and swiftly bolted.
Zhou Xie was left alone in the corridor. Crossing to the window, his gaze followed Wen Rong’s retreating back.
He had already placed his bet on Wen Rong. Wen Rong had to join the Student Council.
