Chapter 56: Explosive News part 1
The next day, before Professor Ning left for the Research Institute, he remembered something.
It was an item Ning Yunyi had asked him to find previously. Yesterday, Ning Yunyi had been too shocked by the news of the Crown Prince after returning from the banquet, and the matter had slipped his mind for a moment.
Remembering it now, Professor Ning took out a brocade box and handed it over. “These are the items you mentioned. I inquired around and had someone exchange for them. Take a look and see if theyāre what you need. If not, Iāll ask around again later.”
Ning Yunyi wasn’t in a hurry; he had only been trying his luck. He hadn’t expected Professor Ning to actually find them.
The items he had described weren’t easy to come by.
After Professor Ning left, Ning Yunyi carried the brocade box toward the study. The big cat, dragging the little fellow who had just eaten his fill and turned into a limp kitten on his back, followed behind.
Once in the study, Ning Yunyi paid the two no mind. Seeing them sprawl out not far away, he walked to the desk and opened the brocade box. Inside were several smaller, sealed silver boxes.
He opened the small boxes one by one and inspected them. A light flickered in his eyes; he truly hadn’t expected Professor Ning to find everything.
Back when he was hoarding supplies in his spatial storage, he had collected everythingāeven cat and dog food.
The only thing he lacked was cinnabar.
At the time, Ning Yunyi never imagined he would transmigrate to a cultivation world, learn a plethora of talismans, and then return to an interstellar era where resources were scarce. Even soil was a rarity, let alone undeveloped planets and various minerals that might have gone extinct.
The main component of cinnabar is mercuric sulfide. When Ning Yunyi had first searched the Star Network, he couldn’t find a trace of it. When Professor Ning had first brought up the ancient archives, Ning Yunyi hadn’t thought of it either.
It was only later, after being followed by the Ning family from Sector F, that he remembered his old profession: drawing talismans. Specifically, Invisibility Talismans were what he needed most right now.
Ning Yunyi had absorbed a significant amount of spiritual energy lately, and his cultivation had increased greatly. If he could find cinnabar, he had a seventy percent chance of success.
He had simply given Professor Ning the descriptions from the Ancient Blue Star Encyclopedia as a “just in case.” He hadn’t expected the Professor to gather them all in just a few days.
Ning Yunyi began to mix the cinnabar according to the proper ratios.
Drawing talismans usually required yellow paper, but it wasn’t strictly necessary. Success primarily depended on the cinnabar, spiritual energy, and the incantation.
With everything ready, Ning Yunyi laid out some xuan paper, dipped his brush in the cinnabar, and channeled his spiritual energy to the tip of the brush. With a swift, fluid motion, he quickly drew several Invisibility Talismans.
He figured that even if his success rate was only partial, with this many attempts, he was bound to succeed at least once.
Ning Yunyi wasn’t worried about the two nearby noticing anything amiss. He had placed many plants and pieces of jade in the four corners of the study. Over the past few days, they had condensed quite a bit of spiritual energy of the same type he was using. Even if there were unusual fluctuations, they wouldn’t stand out much.
The lounging Zong Hao did sense something. He opened his eyes to look, but then closed them again, feeling the surging spiritual energy. It felt as though his entire body was stretching out, making his mostly recovered sea of consciousness feel even more comfortable. It was as if he were floating on the ocean, and he felt drowsy.
After finishing, Ning Yunyi wanted to test the effects. He glanced at the two, picked up an empty box from the table under the guise of the desk’s edge, and stuck an Invisibility Talisman onto it. He silently muttered an incantation. Perhaps because he hadn’t used enough spiritual energy initially, the first attempt failed.
He took a second talisman and applied it. As he recited the invisibility incantation this time, the small box in his palm slowly became transparent before vanishing completely.
The light in Ning Yunyiās eyes grew brilliant. He felt a sense of joy unlike any he had felt before. Last night, upon learning that the Crown Prince was the mastermind, he had actually been quite worried.
Although his mental power was currently high, the Crown Prince held vast power and status. If the Prince could secretly train so many dead soldiers and make 3S-rank mental power experts commit suicide without hesitation, then he surely had a significant number of 3S-rank dead soldiers in his grasp. There might even be hidden aces that hadn’t been deployed yetāwarriors stronger than 3S-rank. The mere thought of it made Ning Yunyi frown.
The Crown Prince couldn’t have trained so many experts in a short time. He had been wondering: when exactly did the Capital Planetās Underground City start auctioning half-shifters to extract their mental power?
Or perhaps, before the Underground City even became popular, had the Crown Prince already begun his work?
That was the only way he could have cultivated so many experts. Otherwise, Ning Yunyi couldn’t think of any other training method.
As a Marshal, Zong Haoās combat strength was already astonishing, and it was entirely based on talent. But for the Crown Prince to have so many under him… it definitely wasn’t through normal means.
Until he found the Crown Prince’s weakness, Ning Yunyi couldn’t afford to expose his own strength. Otherwise, he would only be suppressed or disposed of prematurely.
Ning Yunyi wasn’t afraid of a few 3S-ranks, but if there were ten, dozens, or even higher-level opponents, with his current strength… he really wouldn’t be able to fight them all off.
Most importantly, the Imperial Family was currently in the hands of the Crown Prince alone. He simultaneously controlled the lifebloods of several noble families, who would side with him for the sake of profit.
Marshal Zong must have realized this as well, which was why he had been listless this morning. He had only finished one bowl of his favorite seafood porridge, something that had never happened before.
But now that Ning Yunyi had Invisibility Talismans, he could soon draw more life-saving charms. At the very least, they could save a life in a moment of crisis.
Over the next few days, Ning Yunyi continued his livestreams with the two cubs on schedule. His follower count didn’t drop; instead, it surged. Because the kitten was so adorable, many “aunties” and “uncles” coaxed him, wanting to hear the little fellow meow. Ning Yunyiās followers quickly surpassed ten million.
Except for Professor Ning and Ning Yunfeng going to work, the rest of the family kept a low profile and didn’t go out.
However, Ning Yunyi didn’t miss any news from the outside world. Ning Yunfeng and Professor Ning would tell him everything when they returned.
Having experienced the incident with the Ning family, the two were no longer as indifferent to the outside world as before. They began to pay attention to those around them, trying their best not to reveal any family matters while picking up a lot of information from others.
After dinner, Ning Yunfeng called Ning Yunyi to the front yard and told him what he had just learned. “I heard that the Lehman family has returned to the hands of that child, Little Lehman.”
At this point, he frowned and glanced at Ning Yunyi. After a moment of hesitation, he continued, “I heard that Zong Ling and Mu Jiayi went there with two squads of the Imperial Guardāover a hundred peopleāspecially dispatched by the Crown Prince.
“Because they held the Crown Prince’s token, the Lehman family was quickly subdued. They executed the person who framed the Lehman Patriarch on the spot. The others who weren’t involved pushed the only remaining son of the Patriarch onto the position of Head of the Family.
“A family head only a few years old… I can’t believe they came up with that. Regardless of the process, the Lehman family accepted it. Their revenge was taken for Little Lehman, and now everyone outside is praising the Crown Prince for his benevolence and mercy, saying he is a soft-hearted heir.
“This part was even accidentally livestreamed. At the time, after Little Lehman took his revenge, he asked his saviors, Mu Jiayi and Zong Ling, to make a request, saying he wanted to repay them. Mu Jiayi said he didn’t need anything, earning himself a good reputation. However, Zong Ling… he made a request related to you, little brother.”
Ning Yunyi had guessed as much from Ning Yunfengās hesitant expression. He wasn’t surprised. “Zong Ling didn’t ask Little Lehman to investigate my death, did he?”
