Chapter 83: Huo Chen’s Parents Come Knocking
Lin Huaizhi’s address was no secret.
As long as someone was determined to look, finding the correct answer was a simple task.
And so, on a bright and sunny morning when Huo Chen was away on a business trip and Lin Huaizhi was sleeping in on his day off, Li Meiqing and Huo Chengzhang appeared at his doorstep.
“I heard he was the chairman of some entertainment company, so why does he live in a place like this?”
Li Meiqing covered her nose, her face contorted with disdain for her surroundings.
Lin Huaizhi owned plenty of properties, but to him, the place with the most significance was where he lived now.
Although it wasn’t in a prime location and the apartment was second-hand, it was his first home. Every piece of furniture and every bit of renovation followed his personal taste.
Later, Lin Huaizhi had bought better houses in better locations—standalone villas with luxurious décor and stunning views—but he found that the bigger and more beautiful a house was, the emptier it felt to live in.
In the end, he chose to stay here.
In this apartment, which was just over a hundred square meters.
Of course, in Li Meiqing’s eyes, such sentimental nuances didn’t exist. She simply felt that Lin Huaizhi was a failure of a chairman who couldn’t even afford a decent house.
Li Meiqing stared at the keypad lock in front of her for a long time, unable to bring herself to touch it. Finally, she stepped back and called out to Huo Chengzhang.
“Husband, you press the doorbell.”
她 stretched out her hand, showing off her diamond-encrusted nails.
“I just got my nails done. I don’t want to get my hands dirty in a place like this.”
Huo Chengzhang didn’t care for such things. Or rather, he looked down on things like manicures. In his eyes, Li Meiqing was just a hollow shell who spent her days fussing over her face and hands.
But he wouldn’t say anything.
A moderate amount of magnanimity allowed him to project an air of masculinity, and he didn’t want to argue with Li Meiqing and become a laughingstock for others.
Regardless of what he thought inside, he had to keep up appearances.
“Step aside then.” Huo Chengzhang stepped forward, and Li Meiqing made room for him. Two seconds later, the doorbell rang.
Lin Huaizhi was still asleep.
The sun was high in the sky, and it was already past eleven, but he was still sprawled out on the bed.
Before Huo Chen left for his trip, he had “settled the score” with him thoroughly. All the intimacy they couldn’t display in public was compressed into one night of extreme compensation. Of course, that night of madness brought a heavy retribution.
His entire body felt like it had been taken apart and put back together.
It hurt to move even an inch.
Woken by the doorbell, Lin Huaizhi had no desire to get up. He buried his head under a pillow, trying to shut out the annoying noise.
Huo Chengzhang pressed the bell twice without receiving a response. He couldn’t help but frown. “Could he be out?”
Li Meiqing suppressed her anger.
“Out? How could he be out! The person checking on him told us! He hasn’t come out since he went in! Besides, Xiao Chen just left here this morning. God knows what they were up to!!”
The more Li Meiqing thought about it, the angrier she got. Finally, she shoved Huo Chengzhang aside.
“Move, I’ll do it!”
Li Meiqing pressed the doorbell heavily with terrifying force. After five minutes of no response, she could no longer hold back and pounded on the door with her fist.
“Open up!”
“Lin, I know you’re in there! Get out here and open this door right now!!”
In this moment, all traces of a noble, elegant lady vanished. What remained was a madwoman banging on a door. Standing behind her, Huo Chengzhang’s eyes were filled with deep disgust.
Just as he was about to speak, the door was suddenly yanked open.
“What are you shouting for! Don’t you know that if someone doesn’t open the door, it means they don’t want to see you? Believe it or not, I’ll call the police!!”
Lin Huaizhi thought his voice sounded imposing, but in reality, it was hoarse and broken, lacking any real momentum.
Most importantly, he was only wearing a tank top and a pair of loosely fitted trousers. His arms and shoulders were exposed, and the marks Huo Chen had left on him were laid bare before Li Meiqing and Huo Chengzhang.
Li Meiqing was no young girl; she naturally knew what those marks meant. At the thought of her son having such a relationship with a man, her fury flared.
“A grown man! And yet you’ve learned how to seduce people! Shameless!!”
Lin Huaizhi was stunned by the voice. His movement to slam the door shut slowed down. He had intended to shout a few words and then close the door, but it seemed that was no longer an option.
Especially since this middle-aged couple looked very expensive.
They didn’t seem like ordinary people.
Lin Huaizhi already had a guess in his heart, but to verify it, he asked, “And you two are…?”
Li Meiqing huffed, her voice ringing with authority and contempt.
“We are Huo Chen’s parents!”
Lin Huaizhi realized the truth. He flashed a polite smile. “So it’s Huo Chen’s parents. I wonder why you’ve come to see me…”
Lin Huaizhi was the only resident on this floor. Even though no one else was around, Li Meiqing was extremely resistant to the idea of standing there talking to him.
Of course, it wasn’t out of the question that she wanted to pressure him and let him know she wasn’t someone to be trifled with.
She tilted her head up, maintaining a condescending attitude. “People from small places are so stingy. Even after becoming a boss, you don’t know to invite guests in to sit. No upbringing at all.”
Lin Huaizhi leaned one hand against the door and the other against the frame. He gave Li Meiqing a smile, his voice gentle.
“Perhaps I really do lack ‘upbringing.’ After all, my upbringing never taught me that after shouting abuse at someone’s doorstep, I should expect them to invite me in for tea.”
Li Meiqing choked on her words, then immediately began to put on the airs of an elder.
“Regardless of anything else, you and my son are talk… together,” she couldn’t bring herself to say “dating,” so she gritted her teeth and changed her phrasing, “so shouldn’t you show some respect to me and his father!”
Lin Huaizhi’s smile didn’t reach his eyes.
“Madam, you’ve picked the wrong place to throw your weight around. I’m no pushover.”
“I am with Huo Chen, but I chose Huo Chen, and I have eyes only for Huo Chen. I didn’t choose his parents.”
“Of course, respect can be given.”
“On the condition that the person I am respecting also shows me the same courtesy.”
“But from the look of it, you two didn’t come here to be reasonable. It seems more like you’re here to settle a score. Am I right?”
Lin Huaizhi truly wasn’t a pushover.
Before he was Huo Chen’s boyfriend, he was himself first.
If these two thought they could use their status as Huo Chen’s parents to manipulate and humiliate him, or expect him to grovel and please them, they were dead wrong.
Moreover, these two weren’t even good to Huo Chen. They didn’t care about him, but Lin Huaizhi did. If they wanted to play power games in front of him, they had picked the wrong victim.
Li Meiqing’s chest heaved with rage at his few words. Her finger shook as she pointed at him.
“Fine!”
“Just fine!!”
“No wonder Huo Chen has been so rebellious lately, defying me time and time again. It turns out he has a sharp-tongued boyfriend leading him astray!!”
