Chapter 53: Manage This Mad Wolf!
Seeing Xie Qiang still immersed in her medical book, Cang Jiu blinked and suddenly said, “The A-class Sentinels have a terrible attitude toward Jiang Qingwan now. They all think she was too eager for success and made Your Highness faint and get angry, which is why you refuse to purify them.”
Xie Qiang turned a page, not saying a word.
Cang Jiu glanced at her reaction and continued, “Jiang Qingwan couldn’t take it anymore and started clarifying that it was you, Your Highness, who woke her up at three every morning.”
Xie Qiang picked up her water glass, took a small sip, and kept her eyes on the page.
“The Sentinels don’t believe her at all. They say Your Highness has always loathed Sentinels, so how could you possibly rush to purify them through the night? They think Jiang Qingwan is full of lies and that what she said before about the throne needing the people’s support was all fake too. Some Sentinels even suspect Jiang Qingwan was jealous of Your Highness being an S-class Guide and deliberately forced you to overwork yourself. Now she’s defenseless and unpopular wherever she goes.”
Cang Jiu finished in one breath, looking at Xie Qiang’s reaction with expectation.
Xie Qiang shifted her gaze from the left page to the right, still saying nothing.
Cang Jiu immediately lowered his head in defeat, lying on the table and staring at Xie Qiang gloomily.
His well-defined fingers idly toyed with his silver fox ears. The ears would bend down and then snap back like bouncy jelly, making the bell chime continuously.
Finally, he could no longer hold back and reached out to snatch the medical book from the girl’s hand.
“Your Highness!” Cang Jiu looked at her with pursed lips, restating his innocence in a serious tone, “The Sentinel’s corpse was not hung there by me!”
Xie Qiang finally looked up at him, a bit puzzled. “I know.”
She stood up to grab the book back, but Cang Jiu stood up with her, holding the book high above his head. The youth’s voice was tinged with a bit of stifled annoyance, like a misunderstood young beast. “If you believe me, then why has Your Highness been ignoring me?”
Xie Qiang’s gaze finally moved away from the book and landed on the youth’s face, which was exquisitely beautiful to the point of being demonic.
She frowned slightly, truly a bit puzzled. “Cang Jiu, you just opened your mouth, and I already believed you. Isn’t that enough?”
The youth was stunned, the grievance in his eyes turning into bewilderment.
Taking advantage of his daze, Xie Qiang reached out and snatched the book back, then casually flicked his forehead with her finger and said softly, “You can’t be too greedy. Since you’ve only put in this much effort, naturally you can only get this much in return.”
If one gets too much, they end up like Jiang Qingwan.
Pop— shattered into fragments all over the floor.
Cang Jiu touched his flicked forehead in a daze, the warmth of her touch still lingering on his fingertip. A moment later, a long string of rapid bell chimes suddenly rang out in the room. Xie Qiang looked up in confusion, only to see with surprise the youth kneeling on the table, his entire upper body leaning over toward her.
But in the next second, the silver-haired youth lowered his body.
He took Xie Qiang’s right hand and pressed it against his exquisite, beautiful cheek.
His fox ears trembled slightly, the silver bells attached to the cartilage letting out a faint, vibrating chime. A sense of pleasure, as if being tamed, surged in the youth’s eyes, and his voice was thick with a sticky infatuation. “Your Highness, you look so exciting when you call me greedy!”
Xie Qiang: ?
Before she could react, a large hand wearing a black three-fingered glove reached over her head and directly grabbed the pair of trembling, alluring fox ears, pressing Cang Jiu’s entire head heavily onto the table.
A wave of pain came from his cheek. Cang Jiu was about to lose his temper, but as his gaze swept over Xie Qiang, he immediately put on a pitiful expression. “Your Highness, manage this mad wolf!”
Xie Qiang turned to look at Mo Yin, just as she was about to tell him that this was very impolite, she heard Mo Yin speak slowly, “Instinct, couldn’t help it.”
Xie Qiang then remembered that Mo Yin’s spiritual body was the Black Wolf (Tian Lang). Seeing Cang Jiu with his fox spiritual body characteristics, he might indeed have an aggressive reaction.
She could only say to Cang Jiu, “Next time, don’t show your fox ears and tail in front of Mo Yin.”
But Mo Yin was her personal guard. What was the difference between that and telling him not to show his beast form in front of her in the future?
Cang Jiu glanced at Mo Yin with dissatisfaction. This black blockhead looked dull and stupid, but who would have thought his mind was so sinister!
Mo Yin glanced back at Cang Jiu indifferently. He had no expression, but Cang Jiu felt he was saying: What are you looking at, you smelly fox.
Heh.
Cang Jiu’s eyes darted around, and he began to act spoiled toward Xie Qiang. “It’s alright, Your Highness. Even if I’m beaten by Brother Mo Yin, I still want Your Highness to touch me.”
He said meaningfully, “Little foxes like us are harmless and well-behaved. We would never resort to violence in front of Your Highness, that would be so unrefined.”
Inside Mo Yin’s mental sea, Tian Lang, who had been gloating about beating Cang Jiu, was instantly so angry its head was smoking. It couldn’t help but howl, “Mo Yin! Let me out! I have to bite off this smelly fox’s skull!”
Oh.
Mo Yin let Tian Lang out and placed it on the table, right between Xie Qiang and Cang Jiu.
Tian Lang: ?
“Tian Lang?” Seeing the wolf, Xie Qiang’s eyes widened in surprise. “Why did you come out?”
Tian Lang, who had just been shouting about biting off a skull, was now sitting upright on the table, its eyes as clear as a newborn cub’s, and it began to howl softly in a high-pitched voice: “Awoo~”
I’m a well-behaved little wolfy, how could I do such crude and brutal things in front of a little kitty?
It rubbed its wolf nose against Xie Qiang’s cheek, then turned and glared fiercely at Cang Jiu: You’re lucky today!
“Ha~” Cang Jiu finally understood who was advising Mo Yin from behind the scenes. He gave a disdainful smile. “As if I don’t have a spiritual body too!”
Inside his mental sea, the Silver Fox, who had been licking its fur with an indifferent and proud expression, suddenly stopped. A sense of foreboding rose in its heart.
In the next second, it appeared on the table, face-to-face with Tian Lang.
The silver-white fox fur bristled one by one. The Silver Fox’s eyes widened, and it instinctively raised its front paw and gave Tian Lang a fierce scratch right on the tip of its nose.
Tian Lang couldn’t dodge in time and clutched its injured nose in disbelief. “Awoo?”
The Silver Fox waved its paw disdainfully: Stay away from me, you stupid wolf!
Tian Lang: You shameless, smelly fox who’s seducing the little kitty, you should stay away from us!
Silver Fox: Hah? Why are you blaming the spiritual body for the master’s behavior? You can’t handle losing?
Tian Lang lost it.
It directly pounced on the Silver Fox, intending to teach this arrogant, smelly fox a lesson. The Silver Fox was not to be outdone, its sharp claws emerging from its paws as it scratched at Tian Lang’s face.
The fox and wolf fought “indistinguishably,” silver fox fur and gray wolf fur flying everywhere, fluttering down onto the table like a localized snowfall.
Neither Mo Yin nor Cang Jiu stopped them, as if they were secretly competing in something.
Translator’s Note: The fight between Tian Lang (Mo Yin’s wolf) and the Silver Fox (Cang Jiu’s fox) is so cute! Spiritual bodies in these novels often represent the subconscious desires of the Sentinels. Mo Yin placing the wolf right in between them is such a classic “jealous guard” move. And Xie Qiang’s comment about being “greedy” really hit Cang Jiu hard. It’s all about the “give and take”!
