Chapter 84: Letās See if Huo Chenās Marriage is Truly Out of His Hands
Lin Huaizhi remained noncommittal.
He was indeed the reason Huo Chen had made up his mind to change, but even without him, Huo Chen would never have continued being his parents’ puppet.
“Whether Huo Chen was ‘led astray’ by me is something you know best in your hearts.”
“You never gave Huo Chen love. You only saw him as a tool to revive the family. You were harsh and demanding, tearing his life to pieces, yet you still expect him to give you love and respect and continue being a mindless puppet.”
“Do you think thatās possible?”
Lin Huaizhi sneered, speaking the truth from his heart. “If it weren’t for the blood relation, everything you did to Huo Chen would be considered abuse.”
Huo Chengzhang cared about his dignity.
Being scolded to his face by a juniorāhow could he remain indifferent?
He was just waiting for Li Meiqing to take the lead.
It was the same with Huo Chenās education. He often let Li Meiqing charge ahead while he hid in the back playing the ‘good guy.’ Only when she couldn’t resolve things would he step forward as the decision-maker.
“I suggest you watch your words!”
Huo Chengzhangās face was grim. His expression was far from pleasant, and his gaze toward Lin Huaizhi was filled with warning.
“Young people should be humble and pleasant toward their elders. Furthermore, we are Huo Chenās parents. If you want to be with him, you have to get past us.”
“Do you understand?”
Lin Huaizhi leaned against the door. Faced with their aggression, he appeared relaxed and natural, his expression unchanging.
He smiled and nodded.
“I understand.”
“You can’t control Huo Chen anymore, so you want to start with me. You think that if you can control me, you can still manipulate him.”
“If I haven’t misunderstood, thatās what you mean, right?”
Huo Chengzhangās face was cold. “What do you mean ‘control’? You keep using that word. Do we call that controlling him?”
“We are doing it for his own good!”
“If it weren’t for our years of dedicated cultivation, would he have his current achievements?”
Lin Huaizhi found it laughable.
Parents are the closest kin.
Whatever they output to a child is what they will receive in return.
Most parents are the same, hoping their sons become dragons and their daughters become phoenixes. Some are clearly mice themselves, yet they expect their children to become elites and reach the heavens in a single step.
Even worse are those who ignore their childrenās needs. When a child asks for an apple, they give a pear, conducting one obedience test after another, wanting to turn the child into an extension of themselves that they can fully control.
They are clearly willing to eat chaff and wild herbs for the child, yet they are unwilling to loosen the grip they have on the childās neck.
They cast themselves as ‘victims,’ making extreme demands while failing to be good role models themselves. Suppression, extraction, and moral kidnapping are their most frequent tactics.
The unhappiness brought by a dysfunctional family will accompany a child for a lifetime. Countless children spend their adult years trying to heal from that trauma.
The unfortunate reality is that much of this trauma is incurable.
One cannot deny there are responsible parents who give their children a happy childhood, instill correct values, and lead by example.
But such parents are few and far between.
And even more unfortunately, Huo Chenās parents did not belong to that group. They belonged to the first kindāthe most malicious kind.
There is a term called intergenerational transmission.
It refers to the social phenomenon where psychological traits, abilities, and behaviors are passed from one generation to the next.
This includes physical and mental characteristics as well as social ones. Both good and bad traits can be passed down. The family is the primary site for this; parents transmit values and traditions to their children through words and deeds.
In short, the reason Huo Chen became a cold-blooded villain was ultimately due to his parents.
Because they never gave him love, only indifference and suppression, Huo Chen was inherently a cold person.
From every detail of the dream Lin Huaizhi had about Huo Chen, it was clear that Huo Chenās eventual attraction to Fang Mo was essentially a thirst for love and attention.
He just didn’t know how to get it.
That was why he eventually blackened.
Lin Huaizhi took a deep breath. He looked at the two people outside the door, his gaze icy. “Whether you were truly doing it for his own good, or whether you wanted to make him excellent so he could take over and revive the Huo familyāyou know the truth in your hearts.”
“And Huo Chenās current achievements have little to do with your so-called ‘cultivation.’ The fact that he didn’t go mad under your abuse and suppression and managed to become so outstanding is because he was excellent to begin with.”
Lin Huaizhi didn’t mince words. Huo Chengzhang was gasping with rage, let alone Li Meiqing, who immediately raised her hand toward him.
“You ignorant thing! No manners at all! See if I don’t beat you to death!”
Huo Chengzhang didn’t stop her.
He always advocated for dignity; a wealthy family should act like one. Li Meiqingās temper was far too poor to be a noble lady.
However, this man named Lin truly needed to be taught a lesson.
Unfortunately, Lin Huaizhi wasn’t the type to stand still and let someone hit him. His gambling-addicted father had struck him too many times; his body had long ago developed a defense mechanism.
Before Li Meiqingās hand could land, he caught her by the wrist.
“Madam, getting physical isn’t a good habit. Out of respect for the fact that you are Huo Chenās mother, I won’t hold this against you. Please, both of you, go back the way you came.”
It turned out that exceptions only happened once.
Aside from Huo Chen, Lin Huaizhi truly disliked physical contact with anyone. Just holding Li Meiqingās wrist made him feel incredibly uncomfortable.
So, he let go as soon as he finished speaking.
However, Li Meiqing wasn’t the type to give up just because she was blocked once. The moment her hand was free, she immediately slapped Lin Huaizhi across the face.
The slap was deafening.
Lin Huaizhi was stunned for a moment. His cheek burned with pain, and his ears rang briefly.
“Trash that can’t be brought into the light!”
Li Meiqing snorted, her disgust plain on her face. Huo Chengzhang didn’t speak, but he looked very much in agreement with her.
As they say, people of a feather flock together; the fact that these two became husband and wife was truly a match made in heaven.
Li Meiqing massaged her hand.
“Huo Chenās marriage is not his own to decide. He might be playing with you now, but his father and I will never agree to the two of you being together. Youād better kill that dream now and stop trying to climb the social ladder.”
Lin Huaizhi pushed his tongue against his cheek.
“Then letās wait and see if Huo Chenās marriage is truly out of his hands…”
The young manās eyes and face, which had looked somewhat gentle before, underwent a massive change in an instant, becoming extremely aggressive.
“…or in his own.”
