Chapter 155
But while he was lost in thought, Shen Shuyu had already walked over. He called out tentatively, “Brother…”
Shen Yisi arched an eyebrow. “I donât recall having a younger brother who keeps everything from me.”
Shen Shuyu was at a loss for words. He waved at Wen Jiafei, signaling him to come over.
As Wen Jiafei approached, Shen Shuyu gave him a pointed look. Wen Jiafei hesitated for a moment before saying, “Brother?”
Shen Yisi looked at him, his brow twitching slightly. Shen Shuyu blinked. “I meant for you to…”
Before he could finish, Wen Jiafei understood his meaning and immediately corrected himself. “President Shen, thank you.”
Only then did Shen Yisiâs expression soften slightly.
Shen Shuyu struck while the iron was hot. “Brother, you have no idea what the three of us went through. Our Jiafei had it so rough. He even took a beating just to buy time for me and Shen Xili…”
Shen Yisi reached out and tapped his finger against Shen Shuyuâs forehead. “Cut it out. Once this matter is settled, Iâll settle the score with all of you properly.”
Shen Shuyu clutched his forehead and fell silent. Wen Jiafei stood quietly to the side, his mind filled entirely with Shen Shuyuâs earlier words: Our Jiafei.
Shen Shuyu followed Shen Yisi back a few steps, then realized the other person hadnât followed. He turned his head and called, “Wen Jiafei.”
Wen Jiafei snapped out of it. Shen Shuyu tilted his head. “What are you thinking about?”
Wen Jiafei caught up and said in a low voice, “Nothing.”
The three of them returned to Yue Chengâs office. Yue Cheng and the others had already taken Shen Xili for an examination. Shen Yisi sat on the sofa. “Sit.”
Shen Shuyu and Wen Jiafei exchanged a glance before both sat down on the sofa, waiting for Shen Yisi to speak.
To their surprise, Shen Yisi wasn’t in a hurry. Instead, he remained silent as if waiting for something. The three of them sat there quietly for an unknown amount of time until Shen Yisiâs terminal rang.
He took it out, glanced at the screen, and answered on speakerphone. “Speak.”
“President Shen, we have found the Wen Yue you mentioned. She is safe now, please rest assured.”
The person on the other end was the leader of the team sent to protect Wen Yue. Shen Yisi gave a brief acknowledgement. “Understood.”
After hanging up, Shen Yisi looked at Wen Jiafei. “You can rest easy now.”
Wen Jiafei nodded. “Thank you, President Shen.”
Shen Yisi continued, “Now that your primary concern has been resolved, tell meâwhat exactly is going on here?”
He had received word from Yue Cheng this morning saying Shen Shuyu had called to meet at the hospital. Shen Shuyu had just collapsed a few days ago, and with the recent series of family issues, Shen Yisi was afraid he might have another accident. He had suppressed his questions and rushed over early.
He hadn’t expected the one in trouble to be Shen Xili. Shen Yisi felt like his head was spinning.
Shen Shuyu said, “Brother, itâs not that I donât want to tell you, but I think itâs better if Shen Xili explains this himself.”
Shen Yisi rubbed the bridge of his nose with his fingers. “Then what can you tell me?”
Shen Shuyu replied, “Just that someone might come, and itâs best if we donât let him get near usâespecially not near Shen Xili.”
Just as he finished speaking, the terminal Shen Yisi had placed on the coffee table rang again.
“President Shen, a man with suspicious behavior has been spotted in the lobby. How should we handle it?”
Shen Yisi glanced at Shen Shuyu. “Send me the photo.”
A photo was sent over almost instantly. Shen Yisi looked at Shen Shuyu, who immediately understood his brother’s meaning. He scooted over and picked up his brotherâs terminal to take a look.
He nodded. “It’s him.”
Shen Yisi commanded, “Apprehend him and wait for me.”
“Yes, sir!”
Just as the call was about to end, a chaotic noise suddenly erupted from the other side.
“Ahhh! Why are there so many bugs?!”
“It’s so itchy, it hurts…”
“Everyone stay calm! Tie him up! Xiao Wang, you go to…”
Before they could hear more, the call was cut off.
Shen Yisi frowned. “Bugs? Were the bugs on Shen Xiliâs body also planted by him?”
Shen Shuyu hummed in affirmation. “Itâs a long story. Itâs better to wait for Shen Xili to tell you.”
Shen Yisi was almost driven to laughter by anger. “The two of you… you certainly were busy behind my back.”
Shen Shuyu gave an awkward chuckle. He could roughly understand what Shen Yisi was angry about.
There had indeed been too many incidents in the Shen family these past two days. The matter of the real and fake young masters was already headache-inducing enough, and Shen Yisi still had a mountain of company business to deal with.
Shen Shuyu lowered his head. Actually, his and Shen Xiliâs thoughts were similarâthey wanted to resolve this themselves as much as possible. However, it had reached the final step, and they needed a trusted person with high medical skill to perform the procedure. Aside from Yue Cheng, there really was no other suitable candidate.
Seeing Shen Shuyu lower his head dejectedly, Shen Yisi sighed. No matter what, this was still the younger brother he had doted on for twenty years. His tone softened. “Fine. I hope that when he comes out, Iâll get a satisfactory answer.”
Shen Shuyu looked up. “Okay!”
Shen Yisi patted his head. “Have you not been eating lately? You feel like you’ve lost weight.”
“Brother, turn off your filters…”
Wen Jiafei sat quietly to the side, listening to the conversation. When he heard Shen Yisi mention that Shen Shuyu had gotten thinner, he couldn’t help but look at Shen Shuyu again.
It did seem… like he had lost some weight.
Wen Jiafei lowered his head, lost in thought.
Yue Cheng had taken Shen Xili for the fastest basic examination possible. Looking at the scans, the bug wasn’t very deep, but the cardiothoracic area was far too dangerous.
He asked again for confirmation, “Are you really ready? Are you sure you don’t want anesthesia?”
Shen Xili nodded. “I’m ready. No anesthesia.”
Yue Cheng and Lin Xuyi exchanged a glance. Finally, Yue Cheng said, “Let’s go. To the operating table.”
At Shen Xiliâs repeated request, the three of them changed into surgical scrubs and entered an idle operating room.
Shen Shuyu and the others, also wearing sterile gowns, stood waiting outside.
Shen Shuyu asked, “Brother, will us coming in like this have any impact on Brother Yue Chengâs career?”
Shen Yisi shot him a look. “Aren’t you asking that a bit late?”
This bug-removal surgery had been absurd from start to finish.
Shen Shuyu also felt it was a bit late, but Shen Yisi added, “The hospital was opened in cooperation with the government. We own half the shares.”
Shen Shuyu opened his mouth but ultimately said nothing. Good heavens, so after all that, it was still his own family’s property.
Now Shen Shuyu was relieved. With the boss right here, Brother Yue Chengâs career was safe.
Shen Xili lay on the operating table. To prevent himself from moving involuntarily due to pain, his limbs were secured with sterilized restraints.
Yue Cheng asked, “Lin Xuyi, are you ready?”
“Ready.” Lin Xuyiâs expression was uncharacteristically serious. He was assisting Yue Cheng today to prevent any emergencies.
Yue Cheng then looked at Shen Xili. “Shen Xili, are you ready?”
“Ready,” Shen Xili said. “Sorry for the trouble.”
Yue Cheng said, “Iâll count down. Once I finish, weâll begin.”
“Three.”
“Two.”
“One.”
The scalpel lightly sliced through the skin.
Shen Xili bit his lower lip hard. It was fine; he could endure this much pain.
Standing outside the glass, Shen Shuyu couldn’t bear to watch and turned his head away, but Shen Yisi and Wen Jiafei kept their eyes fixed on the scene.
Shen Shuyu exhaled. He thought to himself that things were much better now.
In his first dream, the person who removed the bug for Shen Xili was himself, and the environment then could be described as having no safety whatsoever. But to survive, there had been no other choice.
Shen Shuyu looked down at the box in his hand containing the mother bug, took a deep breath, and looked up again.
In the operating room, Shen Xili didn’t make a single sound.
Yue Cheng truly lived up to his reputation as a medical genius. Although he hadn’t wanted to agree to Shen Xiliâs request at first, once he started, he found the bug hidden beneath the skin with the utmost speed.
“Forceps,” he said calmly.
Lin Xuyi immediately handed them to him. Yue Cheng held his breath and gently extracted the tiny bug with the forceps. The bug was smaller than they had imagined, but its vitality was incredibly tenacious. As it was peeled away from Shen Xiliâs flesh, its legs wriggled frantically, seemingly trying to burrow back into his body.
“I can’t put it in the tray, it’ll run. Get Shen Shuyu in here,” Yue Cheng frowned. “Stop the bleeding.”
Lin Xuyi understood. He signaled to Shen Shuyu, who immediately opened the box in his hands and took out the glass bottle containing the mother bug.
He had already sterilized himself. He pressed the button on the door and hurried inside. Once there, he uncapped the bottle; the mother bug inside was still dormant.
Yue Cheng calmly dropped the blood-stained child bug inside. As the child bug neared the mouth of the bottle, the mother bug seemed to sense something and showed signs of waking up.
The moment Yue Cheng dropped it in, Shen Shuyu snapped the cap shut. Everyone let out a heavy sigh of relief.
Shen Shuyu turned his head slightly to look at Shen Xili. Shen Xili was covered in sweat, and his lower lip was bleeding from being bitten. Before slipping into unconsciousness, he flashed a smile at Shen Shuyu.
It was over.
Finally, it was over.
