Chapter 4: Buying an Electric Fan for My Wife
After signing the contract and paying the rent, the housing situation was settled.
Yu Deng couldn’t help but probe into Zhou Yuejunâs savings. Of course, he wasn’t so stupid as to put all his schemes on his face.
However, it was only his self-imagined cleverness.
“Brother Yuejun, what’s your monthly salary now? Now that we’ve rented a place, do we still have money to live on?”
Zhou Yuejun stuffed the remaining money back into his pocket, his upright face full of solemnity: “There’s enough to live on. You don’t need to worry about the money.”
Since he wouldn’t give a direct answer, Yu Deng frowned in frustration: “Are you keeping it from me because you’re guarding against me? Are you afraid I’ll spend your money?”
“Fine then, I won’t spend your money, and I don’t want you to rent a house for me. Starting tomorrow, I’ll go work at the construction site too. I’ll earn it myself!”
What Yu Deng thought was unreasonable nagging was, to Zhou Yuejun, nothing more than a little tantrum and acting spoiled.
Currently, Zhou Yuejun was actually quite happy to coax the boy and smooth his ruffled feathers.
“Nonsense. What work are you going to do?”
With Yu Dengâs thin arms and legs, Zhou Yuejun would be worried about people setting their sights on him just by him walking on the street.
“Be good. No working. All the money I earn will be for you to spend.”
After saying that, he took all the remaining money he had brought out and placed it on the table.
“As long as I work normally at the site, I can earn 200 a month. I saved a bit from the factory in the county before.”
So he could afford to raise Yu Deng.
Besides, he wouldn’t stay at the construction site forever, leaving Yu Deng to live in a peri-urban area.
Yu Dengâs brain began to turn again.
As far as he knew, Zhou Yuejun had worked at the county factory for over two years. He had no housing pressure and no elderly to support. After deducting food and drink, he should have a thousand yuan in hand, right?
But now 270 was gone for the rent, and they still had to buy furniture and such. He didn’t know if there would be enough left for his tuition in the end.
He better not squeeze him so hard that he couldn’t go to school and couldn’t proceed with the later plot.
ăDon’t worry. As long as the male lead promised to support you through university, you’ll definitely be able to go. That’s his reputation!ă
With this sentence from 107, Yu Deng was relieved. In any case, his role was to turn Zhou Yuejunâs pressure into motivation.
Zhou Yuejun walked around the room again. There was basically nothing in the house. Except for toiletries and bedsheets, everything needed to be purchased.
“It’s still early. I’ll go to the site and move our things over. You… must be tired from walking, so rest at home for a bit.”
Allowing Yu Deng to go out and buy things was obviously impossible. Not only did Yu Deng not know how to buy things, but Zhou Yuejun was also afraid he would be kidnapped if he went out.
There was a man at the site who had been released from prison, and he said that in there, some men were into that kind of thing.
Yu Deng took the money in his hand and counted it. He counted it twice; it was exactly twenty yuan, three mao, and six fen.
To Yu Deng, this was a huge sum of money. He had to save it as his private stash.
When he smiled, his teeth were white, his eyes were bright, and small dimples appeared on his cheeks.
It was a sweltering day, and a person’s inner fire was already heavy. Zhou Yuejun felt like he had been ignited in an instant.
As soon as Zhou Yuejun left, Yu Deng couldn’t stay idle. He ran to the snack shop downstairs and bought several bottles of water and some spicy strips (latiao). He also went to the book stall and found a few comic books and novels.
By the time Zhou Yuejun returned from moving things, Yu Deng was sitting cross-legged on a chair, eating spicy strips while engrossed in a book.
Zhou Yuejun had exerted himself. A few drops of sweat were trickling down his sharp jawline. He was used to being rough; he wiped it away with the back of his hand and walked over to take Yu Dengâs spicy strips.
“You just had something cold, and now you’re eating spicy food. You’re going to have a stomach ache later. You’re not allowed to eat anymore!”
Although Zhou Yuejun was almost completely obedient to Yu Deng, Yu Deng felt that Zhou Yuejun was a bit fierce deep down. For example, right now, after he lowered his gravelly voice, Yu Deng could only obediently listen.
Zhou Yuejun had also bought some daily necessities, pots, pans, and the like. He went in and out several times, and finally, he even brought back a Bat brand electric fan.
Yu Deng immediately stopped reading his comic. His curled legs dropped, and he walked over to the electric fan. He was in disbelief, his dark eyes wide and round.
“You bought this? How much was it?”
Zhou Yuejunâs face was solemn: “It wasn’t expensive. Around two hundred.”
Yu Deng: “…”
Two hundred yuanâZhou Yuejunâs monthly salary.
Yu Deng hadn’t even started acting out his extravagant and debauched character yet, squeezing him recklessly, but Zhou Yuejun had already bought an electric fan.
Although he felt a sting at the money, he couldn’t show it. He could only continue to maintain his persona.
“That’s great! This way I won’t be covered in sweat when I sleep.”
“But, Brother Yuejun, you have to work hard to earn money. In the future, I want a telephone, a TV, and a refrigerator. And air conditioning. Air conditioning is more comfortable than an electric fan.”
Zhou Yuejun plugged in the fan and turned it on. The wind blew loudly against Yu Deng. The heat was almost entirely dispelled in an instant, and Yu Deng felt incredibly comfortable.
Zhou Yuejun grabbed Yu Dengâs thin arm and led him to sit on the wooden sofa: “Stay a bit further back. If you’re too close, the wind is too strong, and you’ll catch a cold easily.”
He didn’t trust Yu Dengâs paper-thin body at all.
Afterward, Zhou Yuejun took out two pairs of shoes from a plastic bag: a pair of slippers and a pair of white sneakers.
The slippers were plastic, in a purplish-blue color that was quite nice. They were exactly Yu Dengâs size and were gender-neutral.
The white sneakers were even nicer; they looked very stylish.
Zhou Yuejun knelt down, his shoulders bent as he held Yu Dengâs slender leg. He took off his old shoe: “Try them on and see if they fit. If not, I’ll go back and exchange them.”
He put them on for him and then poked his finger inside to check the gap at the heel.
There was a gap, but not a large one; they were a good fit.
Not only that, Yu Deng discovered that Zhou Yuejun had also bought him a woven hatâsomewhat like a straw hat, but different, with a larger brim.
And two sets of clothes.
Yu Deng: “…”
He hadn’t even exerted himself properly yet, but the male lead was already spending money like this. In his view, it was already considered squandering.
It seemed this mission would be a piece of cake.
He couldn’t wait to get to university, spend money lavishly, and plan to hook up with a second-generation rich kid before dumping Zhou Yuejun.
Honestly, if it weren’t for the plot, a man as good as Zhou Yuejunâsteadfast, hardworking, ambitious, and not too poorâwas really quite good.
Next, Zhou Yuejun moved efficiently, cleaning the whole house.
Naturally, it was impossible for Yu Deng to lift a finger. At most, he would unscrew a bottle of water he had bought and hand it to Zhou Yuejun.
Then he would say a couple of things like “Are you tired?”, “You’ve worked hard,” or “Take a break before doing more.”
A scumbagâthat’s what he was.
He was very good at being a bad guy, jie jie jie…
After Zhou Yuejun finished cleaning, his clothes were completely soaked. There were taps in both the kitchen and the bathroom, so he went into the bathroom and rinsed himself off casually with water.
He still had to wash properly, otherwise Yu Deng would be disgusted if he smelled sweaty.
