Chapter 46: Apology
Mu Mu’s limping gait drew surprised glances from the two saleswomen, who dramatically covered their mouths.
“Oh my god! He’s also crippled!”
“What kind of monster is this?” the attractive saleswoman whispered in astonishment. “He’s so disabled, yet he dares to cling to Mr. Yan. Where’s the shame?”
Mu Mu rushed into Yan Gui Xing’s embrace, concealing his momentary sadness. When Yan Gui Xing’s arms gently held his, he looked up, his sunny smile returning.
“Gui Gui, do I look good in this?”
His soft voice was like a fire extinguisher, extinguishing most of the anger in Yan Gui Xing’s chest. However, Yan Gui Xing didn’t intend to let the two women off the hook for their repeated provocations.
He held Mu Mu close, his fingertip tracing the neatly tied bow at the collar, praising him, “Mu Mu looks very handsome in this. It’s the best of all the outfits. The bow is tied beautifully. You can tie my ties from now on.”
Mu Mu’s face wrinkled slightly. Tilting his head, his nape resting against Yan Gui Xing’s chest, he looked at him with difficulty, saying, “But Mu Mu has never tied a tie before, I don’t know how.”
“It’s okay,” Yan Gui Xing curled his finger, hooking Mu Mu’s nose. “I’ll teach you at home. Mu Mu is so smart, you’ll learn it after two tries.”
Mu Mu had only been praised for his intelligence in his early childhood, never again receiving such compliments after he left his family. Instead, he was called stupid and clumsy.
Now, hearing Yan Gui Xing praise his intelligence, his smile grew even brighter. He snuggled into Yan Gui Xing’s arms, his fluffy head rubbing against him like a pet dog.
Yan Gui Xing held Mu Mu’s waist, the anger in his eyes mostly gone. Without looking up, he said to the manager, “Wrap up everything he tried on.”
The manager quickly replied, “Yes, Shangjiang Yan.”
Mu Mu raised his head from Yan Gui Xing’s embrace. His cheerful face was now clouded with worry. He beckoned Yan Gui Xing, who bent down smiling, asking, “What’s wrong?”
Mu Mu stood on tiptoe, whispering in Yan Gui Xing’s ear, his hand covering his mouth as if afraid others would hear, “Gui Gui, are you really going to buy all of them? They’re so expensive. Mu Mu secretly looked at the price tags. Why don’t we just buy the one I’m wearing? This is the cheapest one.”
Even the “cheapest” one was relatively expensive compared to the other clothes. Mu Mu thought of the price tags and felt heartbroken.
The total cost of these clothes was enough to buy a large apartment in the top four districts of Liuli Star.
Yan Gui Xing had been expecting something else, but hearing Mu Mu’s concern about his wallet, he happily kissed Mu Mu’s cheek and said, “Don’t worry; this is nothing to me.”
“But…” Mu Mu was still hesitant, even wanting to return his favorite outfit.
Lace was delicate and could easily be torn during work.
Mu Mu reluctantly looked at the shirt, then said firmly, “Gui Gui, let’s not buy anything.”
“Okay!” Yan Gui Xing ruffled Mu Mu’s curly hair, burying his face in his arms, coaxing him, “Don’t think too much, be good. Just tell me if you like it or not. Good children don’t lie.”
Mu Mu was about to shake his head but was stopped by Yan Gui Xing’s last sentence; he nodded gently.
Yan Gui Xing looked at Achi, who immediately stepped forward to pay the manager.
The manager, seeing Yan Gui Xing’s unconcerned attitude, thought the matter was over and relaxed.
Unexpectedly, the two saleswomen popped up again.
“Mr. Yan, don’t be deceived! He’s scheming; he wants to swindle your money!”
“Yes! He says he doesn’t want them, but he does! He’s such a tea-spiller!”
Yan Gui Xing’s already limited patience finally ran out; a deep furrow appeared between his brows, his lake-green eyes darkening.
He put an arm around Mu Mu’s shoulder, his voice eerily gentle, “Mu Mu, they say you’re scheming and trying to swindle my money. Tell me, did you try to swindle my money?”
Mu Mu sensed Yan Gui Xing’s displeasure and shook his head vigorously, “I didn’t swindle Gui Gui’s money!”
Yan Gui Xing smiled, but his eyes held icy killing intent. “Good. They slandered you. Mu Mu, how do you want to resolve this?”
Mu Mu tilted his head, thinking carefully before saying, “An apology.”
Yan Gui Xing paused, “Just an apology?”
Mu Mu nodded, his clear black eyes meeting the indignant gazes of the two saleswomen, “An apology is enough.”
Yan Gui Xing let out a soft “Heh,” unsure what to say about Mu Mu’s soft nature. But since it was Mu Mu’s choice, he respected it.
He looked coldly at the manager and the two saleswomen. “Apologize.”
The two women were about to say something else when the manager glared at them, and they reluctantly said, “We’re sorry. We were gossiping and spoke wrongly. Please forgive us.”
Mu Mu stared at them for a few seconds, then smiled, “Okay, I forgive you.”
Yan Gui Xing was both amused and annoyed. He had never seen Mu Mu with such a meek attitude; he was such an easy target.
He pinched Mu Mu’s face, using the excuse of paying, and had Mu Mu leave with Sha Xia. Mu Mu, unsuspecting, clung to Yan Gui Xing’s hand, urging him to hurry, and left with Sha Xia.
After making sure Mu Mu was in the elevator, Yan Gui Xing gave Achi a look and leaned against a jewelry display case.
Achi massaged his temples, telling Luo Tang, “Guard the door.”
Luo Tang obeyed, standing like two door gods on either side of the entrance.
The manager’s legs were weak with fear, unsure what this formidable figure was going to do. She quickly approached, quietly pleading, “Shangjiang Yan, these two are newcomers; they don’t know the rules and offended you and the young master. I apologize on their behalf. I’m sorry, please calm down.”
Yan Gui Xing looked down at his datapad, smiling, “Is an apology all it takes? You think my temper is as good as that little fool’s?”
The manager was close to tears. There wasn’t anyone on Liuli Star with a worse temper than him.
“Oh, right.” Yan Gui Xing looked up at the attractive saleswoman, his cold gaze sweeping across her face inch by inch, like that of a cold-blooded animal. “You asked why I like my little fool and not you?”
“What do I like about you? Your double eyelids are surgically enhanced, your nose is a filler job, your cheekbones and chin are sculpted, your chest is augmented, and you’ve had liposuction. You’re entirely artificial. Do you think I’d like that?”
The saleswoman’s face turned white as her secret was revealed. The surprised and appraising gazes from the other store staff caused her slender body to tremble slightly.
“And that’s all that bothers you? Then why did you say my person is deaf and dumb, without thinking whether he can even handle hearing it?”
Yan Gui Xing pulled up a holographic screen from his datapad, displaying a picture of the saleswoman before her surgeries.
“No!” The saleswoman screamed upon seeing the old picture, lunging forward with her nails outstretched, but Achi grabbed her arm and threw her to the ground.
“Don’t worry; that’s not all of your black history.” Yan Gui Xing’s beautiful face now looked like a malevolent demon to the saleswoman.
“No, don’t say it!” she screamed.
“Oh, so you’re a repeat offender,” Yan Gui Xing said. “You scammed widowed old men in the Capital Star into marriage, and within five months, they would die, and you’d inherit their wealth.”
“You’ve done this three times. The fourth time, the victim left a will, giving all his assets to his nephew, so you got nothing, and were accused of murder by the nephew, forcing you to change your name and escape to Liuli Star.”
“How…how did you know?” The saleswoman’s eyes widened in shock, her white face barely visible under her makeup. “How could you know?!”
“Incredible! You actually tried to scam me like those old men.” Yan Gui Xing tsked, disdainfully glancing at the saleswoman sitting on the floor. “I am Yan Gui Xing. The entire Liuli Star is mine. It’s not difficult to investigate you.”
“Achi, send her back to the Capital Star police station. Let them investigate properly, and don’t let those three old men die in vain.”
Achi: “Boss, understood.”
Yan Gui Xing put away his datapad and started walking toward the exit. The other saleswoman thought she had escaped, but Yan Gui Xing stopped beside her; his cold scent filled her nostrils, making her shrink her shoulders.
“Manager, I don’t want to see this person here again.”
The manager hurriedly replied, “Shangjiang Yan, rest assured, she will never bother you again.”
Yan Gui Xing nodded and left.
After the door closed behind him, the saleswoman collapsed to the ground, covering her face and sobbing. Because Yan Gui Xing had whispered in her ear that he didn’t want to see her in the service industry again. She knew she had thoroughly offended him, and it would be difficult to find such a high-paying and easy job on Liuli Star again.
