The Foolish Bookworm of the Aristocratic Boys’ School chapter 89.1

Chapter 89: I Really Want to Kiss part 1

Wen Rong felt like the sky had collapsed.

His brain was buzzing. He even forgot that the Senior was still standing beside him as he turned on the faucet to wash his mouth.

“Don’t use water on it. I’ll go find some medicine to apply for you.”

Wen Rong shook his head vigorously. The wound on his lip split open again, oozing blood.

Knock, knock.

Another knock interrupted them.

Wen Rong stopped what he was doing and turned around along with Senior Leon, only to see Shi Ye standing by the door.

He looked like he had just finished playing ball, dressed in a summer athletic suit made of special material, with a headband tied around his forehead.

Wen Rong should have felt awkward, but out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed a tube of ointment in Shi Ye’s hand.

Probably noticing his gaze, Shi Ye hurriedly hid his hand behind his back.

A strange comparison arose in Wen Rong’s heart: compared to Zhou Xie, he could accept it more if the person from last night had been Shi Ye.

“Last night…”

Shi Ye’s expression froze. “Last night I… I…”

As he stammered, he looked at Leon. “Did you guys have fun last night?”

Wen Rong desperately wanted to ask was it you last night, but he felt that asking would expose the incident, especially in front of Senior Leon, who knew nothing about it.

Wen Rong hesitated, then changed his words. “Senior Leon left very early last night.”

Shi Ye gave him a strange look. “You left early?”

Leon’s smile stiffened slightly. “I received a call from the research base last night and went to the main institute.”

Shi Ye: “Then I was training at the tennis center all night.”

Wen Rong lowered his head and wiped his face with a towel. A streak of blood, not particularly bright red, was left on the white fluff.

Zhou Xie wasn’t present at breakfast. The butler said Zhou Xie had gone out early in the morning, supposedly to go home and see his father.

President Zhou managed ten thousand affairs a day; he was only barely managing to make a trip home because of the Tennis Open finals.

Wen Rong ate distractedly, his indignation gradually cooling down.

He thought, this matter can’t be blamed on just one side. Both are men, so no one really lost out. Besides, I really can’t remember much of last night. What if I forcibly kissed Zhou Xie? A drunk person is capable of anything.

Thinking about it this way, it seemed he was the one who owed Zhou Xie an explanation.

After agonizing over it for a long time, the only conclusion Wen Rong reached was: I must not drink alcohol next time.

The sun moved from the horizon to the zenith. Senior Leon took another call and left. Wen Rong borrowed Shi Ye’s computer to watch post-match interviews from previous years online.

In last year’s video, Shi Ye was only seventeen. Surprisingly, he was even darker than he was now. His gray hair looked almost white under the sun, and his expression was cold. When the staff asked if he was nervous about his first time on the court, he said “No.” When asked about his feelings on winning the championship, he said “Used to it.” …He looked very difficult to get along with.

“Wen Rong.” A shout came from outside the window. Wen Rong turned his head to see Shi Ye holding a tennis racket, waving at him.

Wen Rong remained silent, so Shi Ye jumped up, as excited as a monkey. “I’m done training. Do you want to go out for a stroll?”

Wen Rong looked back at the computer screen and thought of a word: duplicitous.

Though perhaps that wasn’t quite the right description.

When school started, Shi Ye had been just as fierce as in the video.

While Wen Rong was letting his imagination run wild, the room door was knocked on. Shi Ye had shifted from downstairs to upstairs in an instant, practically teleporting.

Wen Rong blinked in disbelief, turning to look out the window, wondering if there was a second Shi Ye.

“Spring comes earlier in District 1 than at school; the flowers have bloomed.” Shi Ye’s hand suddenly pulled a white flower from behind his back and thrust it in front of Wen Rong. “Do you like it?”

The white petals were rounded and full. They looked thick, but under the sunlight, they seemed translucent, possessing the texture of jade.

Wen Rong’s complicated mood was unexpectedly cleared, as if he had invisibly received all the sunlight absorbed by this flower.

“What flower is this?”

“Magnolia.” Shi Ye walked to the window and pointed in a direction. “I remember you can see them from here. Look over there.”

Wen Rong’s gaze followed. Beside the tennis court, there were trees bearing white jade. Without a trace of green mixed in, they were pure white, as beautiful as the snow he had seen a few days ago.

“It’s so beautiful.”

“When I picked up the flower, I thought, since you like looking at scenery, you’d definitely like it,” Shi Ye said proudly.

“Mn, I like it very much.”

“Do you want to go down? Other flowers have opened too.”

“I want to…”

Vroom. A car drove up downstairs. The driver quickly went around to open the rear door, and Zhou Xie emerged from the vehicle.

White shirt, black trousers, black-framed glasses perched on his bony face—he gave off the terrifying aura of a Dark Lord descending.

“No, I won’t,” Wen Rong immediately changed his tune.

“Why not?”

“I have to learn professional interviewing from Zhou Xie.”

Wen Rong actually wanted to say I need to talk to Zhou Xie, but he didn’t want Shi Ye to know what happened last night, so he could only be vague.

“Learn what from him? You’re interviewing me. Just practicing with me is enough.”

“I want to be a bit more professional.” This was actually the truth.

He felt he needed to be worthy of the 500,000 remuneration.

After a few sentences, Zhou Xie came upstairs.

He cast a gloomy look at Wen Rong, revealing a complex expression that didn’t usually appear on his face.

Wen Rong’s mind was filled with only one thought—I have sinned.

Zhou Xie: “Are you done?”

“What’s the matter?”

“I’m looking for him.”

Zhou Xie spoke to Shi Ye, but the “him” was self-evident.

Wen Rong shivered all over, thinking back to the welfare home when some kids messed around and got beaten up by the girls’ parents who came knocking.

Their feelings back then must have been the same as his right now.

【What is Host afraid of?】

The System spoke up unexpectedly.

“I’m afraid he’ll hit me.” Wen Rong was about to cry.

【It won’t go that far. Shi Ye is right there.】

“I don’t want to take responsibility.”

He simply dared not recall what happened last night, nor did he dare imagine Zhou Xie’s reaction when he explained things clearly later.

【…】

The System thought, logically speaking, it should be Zhou Xie taking responsibility for the Host, but its Host was a little straight guy who probably hadn’t found his position yet.

“What do you want with him?” Shi Ye was alert.

“Class. My dad asked me to help him handle some matters, so I’ll be out for the next few days. I’m taking the chance while I’m free now.”

Wen Rong closed his eyes, thinking of quotes to cure procrastination like “die early and be reborn early” and “tomorrow after tomorrow,” and nodded in despair. “Okay.”

Shi Ye seemingly wanted to say something, but after glancing at him, he hesitated for half a second and asked, “Do you want to eat something during the lesson? I’ll have someone send it up.”

Wen Rong hung his head. “No need, thank you.”

After sending Shi Ye away, Wen Rong clenched his fists and inhaled deeply. Just as he was thinking about how to start, Zhou Xie reached out, moved the mouse to the exact center of the mousepad, and adjusted the laptop so its edge was parallel to the table’s edge.

Only after completing this series of actions did he turn back and say, “Any thoughts after watching the past interview videos?”

Wen Rong: “Last night…”

“Don’t waste time. I asked for your thoughts.” After speaking, Zhou Xie suddenly raised his voice. “What happened to your mouth? Can’t you even afford a stick of lip balm?”
