Chapter 21: Have You Hidden Your Suppressants Well? Part 1
The leader of the group handed a syringe-like object to Qi Bai. The tube contained a strange blue liquid, and for the moment, it was impossible to tell if it was an Omega pheromone suppressant.
However, it did look somewhat similar to the suppressants found at the school yesterday.
Jiang Chenyan glanced at the syringe in Qi Bai’s hand and let out a sigh of relief. It wasn’t his. He had disguised his suppressants; the outer layer was a green canister that looked no different from an ordinary energy drink.
To pull off that disguise, he had put in quite a bit of effort and processing.
His relief lasted only a second before his smile vanished. If it wasn’t his… then this belonged to Shen Shiyue.
Qi Bai shot a cold look at Jiang Chenyan before turning his gaze toward the others who were still searching. “Where did you find this?” he asked in a low voice.
“Found it under bed number two,” one of them immediately replied.
Qi Bai’s eyes settled back on Jiang Chenyan. “Are you in bed number two?”
Jiang Chenyan’s lips moved, but no sound came out. He nodded first, then shook his head.
Qi Bai: “…”
Seeing this, someone quickly stepped forward to clarify. “President Qi, Shen Shiyue is in bed two. He should be in bed one.”
Qi Bai was so frustrated he laughed, his clear eyes filled with icy frost as he stared directly at Jiang Chenyan. “What do you mean by shaking your head and then nodding?”
Jiang Chenyan replied, “It means ‘yes and no’.”
Qi Bai’s face darkened further, his tone turning dangerously cold. He felt as if Jiang Chenyan was playing with him. “Speak properly.”
Jiang Chenyan decided to just let it all out and started talking nonsense with a straight face. “Actually, we sleep together. We both sleep in bed one. That’s why I said it’s a ‘yes and no’ situation.”
Qi Bai was completely stunned. Even the people behind him froze in place, their expressions shifting wildly.
After a moment, Qi Bai took a step forward, coming right up to Jiang Chenyan. He let out a cold laugh. “You two certainly know how to have a good time.”
Jiang Chenyan: “…”
Qi Bai held the syringe up high. “Then tell me now, what exactly is this?”
Jiang Chenyan looked up and answered earnestly, “I really don’t know.”
“You’d better really not know.” Qi Bai tucked the item away and gave Jiang Chenyan a chilly look before turning to give orders to his subordinates. “Search the other rooms again. Routine inspection, don’t miss anything.”
Once they left, Jiang Chenyan could no longer keep it together. His entire composure began to crack like falling porcelain.
[System: If that really is an Omega suppressant, then the Protagonist Shou is not far from having his identity exposed. The plot after that should be nothing but censored scenes…]
The system’s text turned a bright yellow color.
[Host, why am I suddenly so excited?]
Jiang Chenyan stared at the “yellowed” system and his mouth twitched. “What’s there to be excited about? Wouldn’t that just be repeating the same old disastrous mistakes?”
The entire building was quickly searched top to bottom, leaving everyone in a state of panic.
“What is going on? Why such a big commotion all of a sudden?”
“No idea. I was in the shower when it happened.”
Doubt was written on everyone’s faces, but no one could guess the reason. They simply treated it as a routine school inspection and went back to their business.
Jiang Chenyan wasn’t in the mood to wait around and quickly sent a message to Shen Shiyue.
Soon, Shen Shiyue replied: “I’m on the rooftop catching the breeze. Want to come?”
Jiang Chenyan stared at the screen, his left eyelid twitching uncontrollably.
If he didn’t know better, he would have thought Shen Shiyue was planning to jump.
Unable to waste time, Jiang Chenyan threw on a jacket and rushed out. When he arrived at the rooftop, Shen Shiyue was already standing there alone, the wind whipping through his hair at the edge of the vast space.
Jiang Chenyan leaned on his knees, panting. “Why… why did you suddenly come here?”
“Mhm, just wanted to feel the wind.” Shen Shiyue’s voice was very light, carried away by the air.
Jiang Chenyan walked over to his side. He originally wanted to pull Shen Shiyue down to sit, but after thinking about it, he decided to just stand with him. He turned his head to look at the other’s profile; his jawline was tight, and his eyes lacked any warmth.
Jiang Chenyan could vaguely guess that Shen Shiyue had something on his mind.
The wind was exceptionally strong today, blowing Jiang Chenyan’s hair into a mess. He instinctively smoothed it down. If he were wearing a wig, it probably would have flown off long ago.
After hesitating for a few seconds, he finally spoke. “A few people came to search our things today. They took that syringe-like item from under your bed…”
He watched Shen Shiyue’s profile closely, even softening his breathing, afraid to miss even the slightest reaction. To his surprise, Jiang Chenyan only received a faint response: “It’s fine.”
Jiang Chenyan froze on the spot. “?”
This was way too calm.
The two fell into silence, neither saying a word, standing side by side on the rooftop as the cold wind wrapped around them.
“Jiang Chenyan.” Shen Shiyue suddenly spoke, breaking the silence. “It seems we both have secrets.” His brows furrowed slightly, his voice deepening. “I heard they are investigating suppressants.”
Jiang Chenyan’s heart jolted, his pupils dilating instantly. Wait, where did Shen Shiyue hear this news from?
“You…” He was about to ask, but the words were cut off by Shen Shiyue’s next sentence.
Shen Shiyue turned his head and looked at him seriously. “Jiang Chenyan, have you hidden your suppressants well?”
This time, Jiang Chenyan completely froze. It felt as if a thousand horses were stampeding through his mind, countless questions tightening his chest. He forced himself to look calm, showing not a single ripple of emotion.
What was wrong with Shen Shiyue? Why would he ask such a question?
After a long while, he slowly spoke. “What nonsense are you talking about? I’m an Alpha, why would I use suppressants?”
After those words, silence fell again. The wind on the rooftop seemed even colder.
Indescribable probes spun between the two of them, tightening around them like vines.
Jiang Chenyan’s fingernails dug into his palms as he met Shen Shiyue’s gaze. They just looked at each other, neither willing to speak first, and the air gradually solidified.
“Sorry.”
A low, muffled voice suddenly broke the tension.
Shen Shiyue spoke first. “Someone told me that I had to say those words to you.”
Hearing this, Jiang Chenyan’s mood swung like a roller coaster, and he felt a surge of irritation. “Who?”
“Mu Sixian.” Shen Shiyue lowered his eyes, his voice softening. “He discovered that Omega suppressants appeared in the school and specifically stopped me to have me pass those words to you…”
Jiang Chenyan’s brows knitted together.
Was Mu Sixian already suspicious of his identity?
That shouldn’t be possible. He had always hidden it well; Mu Sixian had no reason to suspect him.
Jiang Chenyan couldn’t help but ask, “Did he do anything to you?”
“No.”
“That’s good.” Jiang Chenyan let out a short sigh of relief. In the original novel, Mu Sixian was the most twisted. As long as he hadn’t touched Shen Shiyue, it was fine. He slowly looked away, gazing out from the rooftop. He didn’t notice Shen Shiyue staring intently at his profile, the corners of his mouth lifting in an almost imperceptible smile.
Jiang Chenyan was almost losing his mind. He didn’t know what words to use to describe Shen Shiyue. If he said he was calculating, it didn’t seem quite right—how could he believe the words of someone like Mu Sixian?
If he said he was naive, he didn’t seem that naive either. He always gave off an… indescribable feeling.
He was unpredictable; one could never guess what his next move would be.
This was also one of the reasons Jiang Chenyan didn’t dare expose his Omega identity in front of Shen Shiyue. His instincts told him to be careful.
The wind was giving Jiang Chenyan a headache, and his thoughts were a mess. Why wasn’t Shen Shiyue panicking at all?
After all, both of their true identities were Omegas. Once they were discovered, they would be completely finished. Would a normal person have zero reaction? He finally couldn’t help but ask Shen Shiyue again: “Are you really not worried? That thing they took from under your bed…”
Shen Shiyue lowered his eyes as if thinking seriously. After a few seconds, he spoke: “To be honest, a little.” But it was only a little.
Jiang Chenyan didn’t catch the hidden meaning in his words. Instead, he felt relieved, thinking the other was just putting on a brave face. He quickly comforted him, “Don’t be afraid. There will always be a way.”
Since Kai Lan could get information out of Professor Ariel, he should be able to as well.
Shen Shiyue: “?”
