Mr. Popular Is Being Targeted Yet Again Chapter 14

Chapter 14: If Your Luck is Bad, Don’t Randomly Draw Prizes Ahhh

Suddenly, Jiang Qing put down his controller.

“Alright, everyone put down what you’re doing for a second, I’m going to draw a prize!!”

He said this completely out of nowhere. Song Lingchen and Jiang Linmu were stunned, even pausing their argument halfway through.

“Draw a prize? Draw what prize?” Song Lingchen asked in confusion, his character in the game still standing dumbly in place.

Jiang Linmu, however, seemed to recall something, his face suddenly turning incredibly terrified: “Wait, Brother! Don’t tell me you’re talking about thatβ€””

Before his words finished, Jiang Qing had already picked up the controller and pressed the button. A shiny golden roulette wheel suddenly appeared on the screen.

His finger abruptly stopped pressing, and the prize wheel on the screen slowly came to a halt, ultimately pointing to a skull icon.

“Uh oh,” Jiang Qing uttered a completely emotionless interjection.

The next second, the TV screen suddenly turned blood-red, and a piercing alarm echoed through the living room!

The originally cartoonish and cute game interface instantly transformed into a doomsday survival style, with blood-red text flashing continuously:

[Swine Fever Outbreak! Quarantine Failed! Area Locked Down!]

“What’s going on?!” Song Lingchen was completely bewildered by this sudden turn of events.

Jiang Linmu was already clutching his head and wailing: “I knew it! Not again! Brother, with your luck, can you please not randomly draw prizes ahhh!”

On the screen, the originally healthy and lively little pigs one by one popped purple bubbles above their heads, then fell down one after another. What was even more terrifying was that the plague was spreading from Jiang Qing’s farm toward both sides at a visible rate!

“Quick! Quick, build quarantine walls!” Jiang Qing, however, became invigorated. His eyes lit up, and his fingers operated rapidly.

“This is a hidden event, the trigger probability is only 0.1%!”

Song Lingchen finally reacted, frantically trying to stop the plague from spreading. But it was too late. The pigpens he had just finished building were enveloped by purple plague clouds in the blink of an eye, and all the pigs he had worked so hard to raise turned into gray icons.

“My pigs…” Song Lingchen looked at his farm, which had returned to the Stone Age overnight, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

“Hahahaha, serves you right!” Jiang Linmu gloated loudly, but his extreme joy turned to sorrow. The very next second, the plague crossed the border, and his farm was also completely wiped out.

Jiang Linmu’s smile froze on his face: “Noβ€”my five-star Pig Palace!”

The main culprit, however, was completely immersed in this sudden crisis. He quickly adjusted his strategy, building quarantine facilities one after another along the plague’s path, and even attempting to research an antidote.

“I need your help,” Jiang Qing said without turning his head. “Song Lingchen, you go collect herbs; Jiang Linmu, you’re in charge of purifying the water source.”

Perhaps his tone was too matter-of-fact, as Song Lingchen and Jiang Linmu subconsciously followed his commands. Controlling their respective characters who now had absolutely nothing left, they began running around the ruins for Jiang Qing’s “world salvation plan.”

While Song Lingchen controlled his character to gather herbs in the wilderness, he couldn’t help but look sideways at Jiang Qing.

The red light of the screen reflected on his focused side profile. Those eyes, which usually looked somewhat cold, were now shining brightly, and his entire person radiated a rare, almost childish enthusiasm.

At this moment, Song Lingchen suddenly felt that even if the farm was destroyed a hundred times, as long as he could see Jiang Qing make this kind of expression, it was totally worth it.

“Hey! Surnamed Song! Don’t slack off! Where are the herbs my brother told you to pick!” Jiang Linmu didn’t forget to supervise his rival while purifying the water source.

Song Lingchen snapped back to reality, chuckled lightly, and sped up the movements of his hands.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

The few of them finally brought the situation under control and breathed a long sigh of relief.

“Brother, do you know? I almost thought we were going to have to restart the game again just now.”

Jiang Qing smilingly handed the controller to Jiang Linmu.

“Who was it that said my luck was bad just now? Here, you come give it a try?”

“…”

Jiang Linmu looked at the controller handed to him and couldn’t help but swallow hard.

Actually, his luck wasn’t much better.

But looking at Jiang Qing’s smile that clearly said “if you dare not take it, you’re dead,” he had no choice but to bite the bullet and take it.

“D-Draw it is!” Jiang Linmu took a deep breath.

The roulette wheel slowly stopped, pointing to a gift box icon.

[Congratulations! You have obtained the “Mystery Grand Prize Pack”!]

“Wow! I won!” Jiang Linmu jumped up excitedly, but before he had time to act smug, a notification suddenly popped up on the screen:

[Opening Mystery Grand Prize Pack…….][Congratulations, you have obtained the “Hormone Bomb”! Effect: All pigs on the field enter their mating season!]

As soon as the notification sound fell, the art style on the screen underwent a drastic mutation. The pig herd that had just returned to peace suddenly got peach-shaped hearts in their eyes, and the background music changed to a passionate Latin dance track. One by one, the pixelated little pigs began pairing up and dancing courtship dances, while pink hearts floated all over the pigpen.

“W-What is this!” Jiang Linmu was dumbfounded.

Before they could even react, system notifications followed one after another:[Due to excessive hormone concentration, the pig herd has started ignoring fences!]

They watched as those pigs hopelessly in love jumped over the fences, frantically chasing after the objects of their affection. What was even worse was that pigs from different farms began visiting each other. The purebred sow Jiang Qing had meticulously bred was being chased all over the field by a boar from Song Lingchen’s farm.

“Jiang… Lin… Mu!” The smile on Jiang Qing’s face vanished completely, his voice cold enough to freeze water.

“I-I-I really didn’t know this would happen!” Jiang Linmu was on the verge of tears, frantically trying to control the situation. “Why are these pigs running so fast!”

Watching this chaotic scene, Song Lingchen couldn’t help but burst into laughter:

“Little Mumu, your luck really is in a class of its own hahahahahahaha.”

By now, the screen was a complete mess: herds of pigs were running wild everywhere, the newly rebuilt facilities were knocked over in all directions, and because the pigs were mingling on a massive scale, the different farms’ diseases began cross-infecting.

[Warning: Swine Flu Outbreak!]

[Warning: Second Outbreak of Swine Fever!][Warning: New Type of Porcine Infectious Disease Discovered!]

A continuous string of warning notifications almost drowned out the screen.

“Jiang…! Lin……! Mu……!” Jiang Qing grabbed a pillow and hurled it right at Jiang Linmu.

“Brother, I was wrong! I really didn’t do it on purpose!” Jiang Linmu wailed while dodging. “There’s a problem with this game’s design!”

Song Lingchen was laughing so hard he was rocking back and forth, almost unable to hold onto his game controller.

“This single gift pack of yours just directly resulted in our total annihilation!”

The chaos on the screen was still escalating. The pigs in heat not only destroyed all the facilities but also, due to the massive intermingling, caused various diseases to cross-infect. Now the entire farm had turned into one giant petri dish for plagues.

[Emergency Notice: The area you are in has been quarantined by the Health Department][Remaining Healthy Pigs: 0]

[Game Over]

The screen in front of them turned gray.

Jiang Qing put down the pillow and looked at Jiang Linmu expressionlessly.

Jiang Linmu shrank into the corner of the sofa, whispering in defense:

“At least… at least we witnessed history? This should be the fastest clear record for this game, right?”

“Is it a clear or a bankruptcy?” Song Lingchen raised an eyebrow. “The half-hour of blood, sweat, and tears I invested is just gone like that.”

Translator’s Note:

  • Total Annihilation (全軍覆沒): Literally “the entire army was wiped out.” The pigs didn’t stand a chance!
  • Petri dish for plagues: The fact that the “Hormone Bomb” resulted in an STD/cross-infection apocalypse among pixel pigs is absolute peak comedy. Jiang Linmu’s luck is truly cursed.
