Mr. Popular Is Being Targeted Yet Again Chapter 15

Chapter 15: Are You Two Really That Unfamiliar???

Jiang Yu had just returned to the front door when he heard the noisy sounds coming from inside the house.

He pushed the door open, accustomed to this, but unexpectedly, this time he saw an unanticipated figure.

In the living room, Jiang Qing and Jiang Linmu were squeezed onto the sofa, gesturing wildly at the TV screen, and sitting between them wasβ€”

“Lingchen?” Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow in surprise, casually placing his coat on the entryway cabinet. “When did you get back?”

Hearing the voice, Song Lingchen looked up and revealed a smile: “Brother Yu. Just arrived today.”

Jiang Yu’s gaze swept over the three of them, ultimately landing on the disastrous pig farm on the TV screen. He couldn’t help but chuckle and shake his head:

“How old are you three, still squeezing together to play video games.”

He walked behind the sofa, resting both hands on the backrest: “How is the battle going?”

“Total annihilation.” Song Lingchen shrugged helplessly. “Thanks to a certain someone’s Mystery Grand Prize Pack.”

“That was an accident!” Jiang Linmu retorted, his face red.

Jiang Yu watched his younger brothers bickering noisily, his gaze finally resting on Song Lingchen.

As the older brother by a few years, he knew better than anyone what Song Lingchen had experienced over these past two years, and he understood better than anyone how precious this moment was.

Although he himself had lent a hand a few times, most of it was overcome by Song Lingchen gritting his teeth and enduring it alone.

Jiang Yu still remembered that late night when he received a call from his assistant, saying that Song Lingchen had confronted several veteran shareholders in the conference room until the early hours of the morning, ultimately suppressing all objections through sheer force of data. At that time, Song Lingchen had only taken over the company for less than half a year.

He also remembered running into him at a cocktail party once. Song Lingchen was navigating smoothly among various prominent figures, his smile appropriate, his conversation composedβ€”looking very much like a President Song who could stand on his own. It was only as the party was dispersing that Jiang Yu accidentally caught a glimpse of him leaning against a corner of the corridor, loosening his tie, a flash of exhaustion crossing his brows. Only then did he realize with a start that this youth he had watched grow up had already been forced to mature at breakneck speed.

And now, this resolute and decisive President Song in the outside world was sitting with absolutely zero image, squeezing on the sofa with his two younger brothers, arguing until he was red in the face over a childish pig farming game.

“Since you’re staying,” Jiang Yu spoke up, “Lingchen can stay in the guest room on the second floor. It’s cleaned regularly, so you can move right in.”

Song Lingchen froze for a moment: “How did Brother Yu know I was staying?”

Jiang Yu used his chin to point at the suitcase by the entryway: “You brought all your belongings, are you telling me you’re just here to visit?”

Jiang Linmu immediately protested: “Brother! Why are you also agreeing to let him stay!”

Jiang Qing, however, had already picked up the game controller again: “Are we still playing or what?”

“Playing!” Song Lingchen responded immediately, afraid Jiang Yu would go back on his word.

Jiang Yu watched the three of them dive back into the game. He shook his head helplessly and turned to head upstairs. At the corner of the stairs, he paused and looked back at the living room.

The light from the TV screen flickered, illuminating three focused side profiles.

It had been too long since he had seen such a scene.

A faint smile touched the corners of Jiang Yu’s mouth. He placed the cake down at the door of Jiang Qing’s room, turned around, and went to his own bedroom.

After the few of them ate dinner, they all returned to their respective rooms.

Of course…

That was impossible.

“Song Lingchen!!!!!!” Jiang Linmu blocked the door to Jiang Qing’s room.

“You’ve already been given your own room, why are you coming to my brother’s room!!!!!”

Song Lingchen leaned over Jiang Qing’s shoulder, saying helplessly:

“Little Mumu ah, do you know how long it’s been since I saw your brother,” Song Lingchen hung off Jiang Qing’s body like he had no bones, dragging out his tone. “Obviously we have a lot of things to catch up on.”

Jiang Qing leaned his body slightly under the weight but didn’t push him away.

“What is there to say that can’t wait until tomorrow! Why do you have to squeeze into one room in the middle of the night!” Jiang Linmu spread his arms, stubbornly blocking the door. “My brother needs to rest!”

Song Lingchen blinked, looking innocent: “Didn’t we often sleep together in the past? When we got tired from playing games, we would just lie on the carpet, and Brother Yu would even cover us with blankets.” As he spoke, he turned his head to look at Jiang Qing, his tone tinged with nostalgia. “Right, Qingqing?”

Before Jiang Qing could speak, Jiang Linmu jumped up: “That was the past! Things are different now!”

“What’s different?” Song Lingchen raised an eyebrow.

“It’s… it’s…” Jiang Linmu stammered for a long time, his face turning red, before finally squeezing out, “My brother is a light sleeper now! You’ll wake him up!”

This reason actually moved Jiang Qing slightly.

His sleep was indeed not as good as before; the slightest noise would easily wake him up.

Song Lingchen keenly caught Jiang Qing’s subtle change in expression and immediately promised: “I’m a very well-behaved sleeper, I absolutely will not move or make a sound.” He paused, then added pitifully.

“Plus, I have trouble sleeping in new places. If I sleep alone in an unfamiliar room, I might stay awake until dawn…”

“Are you telling me you’re really that unfamiliar with my brother’s room?”

Jiang Qing looked at his resolute younger brother, then at Song Lingchen hanging eagerly onto him, and remained silent for a moment.

He felt that if he didn’t step up and speak now, these two would trap him in the middle and argue all night.

“One hour,” Jiang Qing finally spoke.

Jiang Linmu: “Ah?”

Song Lingchen’s eyes lit up.

Jiang Qing pushed open the door, bringing Song Lingchenβ€”who was still hanging onto himβ€”inside as well, and then said to the still-uncomprehending Jiang Linmu: “One hour later, make him return to the guest room.”

With that, the door gently closed in Jiang Linmu’s face.

Jiang Linmu glared at the tightly shut door, stomping his feet in anger, but he didn’t dare actually barge in. He could only shout from outside:

“Song Lingchen! Only one hour! One minute longer and I’ll climb through the window and kick you out!”

Inside the room, listening to the fading footsteps outside, Song Lingchen smiled triumphantly.

“Can I really only stay for one hour?” Song Lingchen sat backward on Jiang Qing’s swivel chair, resting his arms on the backrest and looking up at Jiang Qing.

Jiang Qing sat down opposite him: “You said you had things to talk about.”

Song Lingchen looked at Jiang Qing’s side profile, and suddenly, the teasing jokes rolling on the tip of his tongue couldn’t be spoken.

The room fell quiet for a moment.

“Actually, there’s nothing special to talk about.” Song Lingchen gave a soft smile, his tone turning a bit more serious. “It’s just… I wanted to sit in your room for a while.”

“And wanted to spend a little more time alone with you.”

Jiang Qing’s hand holding his water cup paused. He didn’t look at him, just gave a very light “Mhm.”

During this hour, they didn’t really say much.

Song Lingchen rested his chin on the back of the chair, his gaze quietly falling on Jiang Qing. Jiang Qing leaned against the edge of the bed, his fingertips rubbing the silver chain on his wrist. Whenever he occasionally lifted his eyes, he would meet those smiling eyes.

“This bracelet,” Jiang Qing suddenly spoke, breaking the tranquility.

“What made you suddenly think of buying this?”

Song Lingchen’s eyes brightened slightly, as if he had been waiting for him to ask:

“I saw it at the airport. At first glance, I felt it belonged on your wrist.” He paused, his voice dropping lower, “And… it’s a couple’s design. I have a similar one, the men’s version.”

He raised his wrist. A silver chain was also worn there.

Hearing this, Jiang Qing immediately laughed out loud.

“What? Thinking of marrying into our Jiang family?”

“So you’re trying to make a breakthrough starting with me?”
