Chapter 54: Won’t Pick It Up
Chi Wan’s crying was never a loud wail, but a low whimper, without a hint of being spoiled.
It only made people feel she was truly terrified and had suffered an unspeakable grievance.
Cang Lin’s smile vanished instantly, his expression turning a bit ugly.
His Mental Entity was being gentler than ever, just a bit too enthusiastic. Why was she crying?
The Golden Dragon, which had shrunk quite a bit, was also somewhat bewildered.
Did it… scare its favorite Guide Big Sister into tears?!
The small Golden Dragon suddenly didn’t dare do anything, standing there blankly.
Seeing Chi Wan crying so sadly on the dragon, Chi Che’s brow furrowed slightly.
Shi Liu was very good at reading expressions and immediately stepped forward:
“Commander, please put Guide Chi Wan down. Can’t you see she’s very scared?”
Cang Lin, for once, didn’t argue. Just as the Golden Dragon was about to set her down, a thick light green energy swept over like a wind.
The scarred silver python easily rescued Chi Wan.
Qi Ye had obviously heard the commotion and run over, his breathing a bit rapid.
“Are you hurt?”
Seeing not a single scratch on Chi Wan, he felt much more relieved.
His gaze swept across the field, quickly deducing what had happened. His voice was extremely cold:
“Cang Lin, she hates you. Don’t you know that?”
Hearing the word “hate,” Chi Che’s eyes moved slightly.
Seeing the little girl hiding behind Qi Ye with red eyes glaring at Cang Lin, her disgust didn’t seem fake at all.
He suddenly realized he seemed to have misunderstood something.
Cang Lin’s eyes narrowed slightly: “We were betting. Pity, she found a bunch of external help but still lost.”
“Regardless, don’t let your Mental Entity touch her.”
At these words, Cang Lin was actually a bit unhappy.
“Qi Ye, you’re overstepping. What is your relationship with her? You aren’t her contracted party.”
Hearing that she wasn’t contracted with him, Chi Che secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
“Nor are you her designated Sentinel.”
Chi Che’s mood improved further.
“In fact, you’ve even been banned from her Soothing rights.”
Chi Che hadn’t expected that these two men’s relationships with Chi Wan were so distant.
The knot in his heart seemed to loosen instantly.
Qi Ye looked away and simply sneered:
“Still better than you. At least she doesn’t loathe me.”
“Doesn’t matter. From now on, I have the right to enter her Soothing room.”
Qi Ye looked at him sharply.
Cang Lin smiled broadly: “The prize of winning the bet.”
Qi Ye turned back to Chi Wan. Seeing that she remained silent, he said no more, shielding her as they prepared to leave.
As they passed Chi Che, the latter stepped forward as if he had something to say to her.
But Qi Ye shielded Chi Wan very well, completely blocking his view.
His voice, full of coldness, carried a hint of sarcasm:
“Mr. Chi should explore on his own. As for things like betting, don’t rashly agree to others if you don’t have the certainty. Our Alliance Guides don’t need a ragtag team without even an SSS-rank Sentinel to protect them.”
Chi Che’s jawline tightened, but his face showed little anger.
There was only a sense of loss, as if something hadn’t been grasped.
Qi Ye helped Chi Wan into the vehicle.
“I’ll send you back to rest first.”
Chi Wan obediently boarded the vehicle. Just as the cabin door was about to close, it was held open by a hand.
Chi Che looked at Chi Wan: “Can we talk alone for a bit?”
The air became very silent.
Qi Ye said nothing, simply leaving the choice to Chi Wan.
Chi Wan hesitated for a moment but still got out of the car.
The door closed. He took her to a place a little distance from the convoy where they wouldn’t be overheard.
“Four months.”
Chi Wan looked up at him in confusion.
He was looking at her seriously.
“Wait for me for four months. By then, whatever you want to win in a bet, I can do it.”
In four months, everything would be settled, and he wouldn’t need to hide his abilities anymore.
Chi Wan understood, but she only lowered her eyes.
Leaving aside the fact that she wouldn’t be here in four months, he should also be entering his own plot by then.
The two of them were unrelated strangers; they were just two intersecting lines that would only drift further apart.
After a few seconds of silence, she simply looked at him calmly:
“Is there anything else?”
Seeing her so indifferent, Chi Che thought she was still angry.
Though he didn’t know how she could tell he was hiding his abilities, he still spoke without hesitation to explain:
“I just…”
“I know.”
Her soft, waxy voice still carried a bit of a nasally sound from crying, directly interrupting him.
Chi Che’s dark eyes flickered. In his pupils, her small face was serious and sensibly heartbreaking.
“It was my mistake. I was a bit hurried then, so…”
She spoke very generous words, but it made him feel even worse.
This feeling was as if he had personally snapped her expectations of him.
His throat felt blocked; Chi Che couldn’t say a word.
After so many years of lying low, his heart held only the seizure of power.
Yet for the first time, because of a Guide, he had a different thought.
This sour feeling was very distressing.
He looked at her seriously and pressed a signal chip into her hand.
“This is a chip that doesn’t belong to this galaxy. It can connect across star systems with anyone who has the same chip.
You can insert it into your light-brain. In the future, no matter where I am, I can contact you.”
As he spoke, his voice softened. The high-and-mighty superior lowered his noble head for the first time:
“Can I… request you to accept it?”
Chi Wan looked down at the chip in her palm.
After a moment of silence, she ultimately didn’t refuse.
She left him and got back into the car.
Qi Ye, who had given her enough private space, though waiting in agony in the car, didn’t disturb her in the slightest.
The moment he saw her return, his gaze unobtrusively swept over her tightly clenched palm. He didn’t ask anything.
The vehicle drove slowly, then gradually accelerated.
Qi Ye suddenly spoke:
“You bet with Cang Lin. If you had won, what was the reward?”
“10 crates of Concentrated Ability Fluid and my Guide Essence.”
“I will give Cang Lin equivalent compensation. As for the Soothing list, if you don’t want to add him, you don’t have to.”
Chi Wan turned to look at him. His lips were still a bit pale, obviously not fully recovered.
Noticing her gaze, he turned his head to look back. The favoritism in his green eyes was so obvious it almost manifested.
Chi Wan shook her head: “Don’t worry, I have a way.”
Even she didn’t notice her tone had softened.
Noticing the medicine box and ointments beside him, as well as the small silver python coiled next to him which was still a bit weak—the python was now only about the thickness of her forearm and looked much cuter than before.
She held out her hand: “Let me help you apply the medicine.”
During the sway of the vehicle, Qi Ye’s heart skipped a beat.
The silver python was very well-behaved, slithering into her palm. The snake’s body coiled around her arm, its small head gently nuzzling Chi Wan’s fingers.
It tickled.
Her heart softened, and she spread the ointment on the swollen parts of the snake’s body.
The texture of the snake scales was cool and smooth, but the injured snake flesh where scales had fallen off was so delicate she didn’t dare use force.
Chi Wan’s movements were gentle and focused. Her long eyelashes drooped slightly, making her look indescribably beautiful.
But before she had applied much, she noticed the person beside her had strange breathing.
She turned to look at him. Qi Ye turned his head away slightly, avoiding her gaze. His thick green eyes were incredibly dark at this moment, and his ears were mostly red.
“What… what’s wrong?”
“That area… is the snake’s belly.”
His five senses were connected; it was as if his chest and abdomen were being touched all over by her.
Chi Wan realized and her face also turned shy.
She hurriedly changed spots, her gaze seeing the wounds below, and moved toward them.
“Don’t touch there.”
Qi Ye’s voice was incredibly raspy as he quickly withdrew his Mental Entity.
Chi Wan scratched her head and started to change the subject:
“Is it a bit hot? Let’s open the window.”
She used her other hand to push open the window behind her. Under the force, the chip in her palm slipped out.
Qi Ye: “Should we stop to pick it up?”
Chi Wan looked at the chip disappearing into the mist.
She shook her head: “No need.”
If it’s lost, it’s lost. They wouldn’t have any interaction in the future anyway.
Translator’s Note: Wait, the snake’s belly? Oh my… Qi Ye’s reaction is so cute! For those who don’t know, in these “Sentinel/Guide” (SentiGuide) settings, the physical contact with a mental entity is felt directly by the owner. So Chi Wan was basically… well, you get the idea! And the chip she dropped? That’s Chi Che’s lifeline to her. Talk about a “missed connection.”
