Chapter 66: Big Doggy, Good Doggy
Bai Zhi dragged the unconscious Su Rou onto Yan Ci’s vehicle and dropped her heavily onto the living room floor.
He had administered a strong dose; even the impact with the floor didn’t wake her.
Xie Qiang crouched beside her, gripped her chin, and turned her face to look at it. “Why is she unconscious? Will she wake up?”
“I injected her with a sedative. Do you need her to wake up now? I have the antidote.”
Bai Zhi pulled a syringe from his pocket filled with a pale blue liquid. Presumably, only he knew it was the antidote.
Xie Qiang shook her head and stood up. “Didn’t we say we’re boarding the starship soon? Let her wake up once we’re on board. It’ll be easier to interrogate her there. Can you control how long she’s out?”
“I can. If I don’t wake her up, she should wake up on her own in about three hours.”
He had given her a large dose—enough to not only keep her out but also to give her nightmares.
He could imagine how terrified Su Rou would be when she finally woke up.
Three hours was plenty of time to board the starship; they’d probably be halfway to Wind Path Star by then.
“Good. We’ll wake her up once we’re on the ship. I want to interrogate her properly.”
If it weren’t for Su Rou, Xie Qiang wouldn’t be a fugitive today.
She had to find out why Su Rou was targeting her and how she had managed to force her to flee the Empire.
Since Bai Zhi was back, Xie Qiang gestured for him to follow her. “Come into the room with me. Check on Xie Jun and see why he isn’t waking up yet.”
It had been over twenty-four hours since Xie Jun was rescued. According to Bai Zhi’s earlier calculations, he should have been awake by now, yet his eyes remained closed.
None of them were doctors and didn’t dare to move Xie Jun without reason. They had to wait for Bai Zhi.
Bai Zhi nodded to Si Ye and Lei Lie in the living room before following Xie Qiang into the bedroom.
Only he knew how difficult and jealous it had been to watch Yan Ci and the others take turns going into Xie Qiang’s room while he remained outside, unable to show himself.
Finally, it was his turn. Although it was just to check on Xie Jun, he had finally secured some time alone with Xie Qiang.
As soon as they entered the room, Xie Qiang closed the door and turned to hug Bai Zhi.
Bai Zhi was stunned by the sudden embrace. His brain felt as though fireworks were going off.
He had never seen Xie Qiang be so proactive. He was certain that none of the three men outside, including the one in the cockpit, had ever seen this side of her.
He slowly raised his hands to wrap around her waist and patted her back. “What’s wrong? Is something on your mind? If you’re troubled or sad about something, you can tell me. You can use me as your dumping ground.”
He was ready to be her dumping ground at any moment, prepared to take on all of her negative emotions.
But Xie Qiang just nuzzled her head against his chest. “No, nothing’s wrong. I just feel bad for you. You’ve worked so hard.”
In the twenty or so hours of their escape, the other three had all received her spiritual treatment and comfort.
Only Bai Zhi had been away from her since their flight began. This was their first meeting in a long time.
Back when they were together every day, she hadn’t realized how much of an impact these men had on her. It was only during the events of the past two days that she realized she had already grown accustomed to having these four men by her side.
Xie Qiang’s lips were pressed against Bai Zhi’s chest, as if she were speaking directly to his heart. Bai Zhi’s heart rate suddenly accelerated, thumping so loudly that Xie Qiang could hear it.
She couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.
Bai Zhi was acting like an innocent young boy right now, nothing like his usual self.
Bai Zhi’s face flushed red, but he still didn’t speak. He just tightened his embrace slightly, but kept it at a level where she wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.
The considerate gesture warmed Xie Qiang’s heart.
After ten minutes, Xie Qiang released Bai Zhi. Ignoring his bewildered expression, she pulled him over to Xie Jun.
“Alright. Your mental landscape is perfectly healthy now. It’s time to check on my brother.”
Only then did Bai Zhi remember why he had come in.
Although a ten-minute hug wasn’t enough to satisfy his need for physical contact, having those ten minutes of undisturbed time had done a lot to soothe the feelings of possessiveness he had developed during their time apart.
He crouched beside Xie Jun and performed a detailed examination of his body and mental world.
Two minutes later, Bai Zhi let out a soft chuckle.
Xie Qiang was confused. What did he mean by chuckling instead of giving her the results?
However, if Bai Zhi was laughing, then her brother was surely fine.
She gave Bai Zhi a little nudge. “Stop laughing. What’s wrong with him? Why won’t he wake up?”
Bai Zhi stood up and gave Xie Jun a nudge as well. “Alright, get up. No matter how comfortable it is, you need to get up and eat something.”
A second later, Xie Jun’s eyelashes fluttered, and he slowly opened his eyes.
His pale gold eyes looked at Xie Qiang, and his pale pink lips parted. A voice that sounded too sweet for a boy emerged: “Sister—”
Xie Qiang was stunned—completely frozen.
After a long moment, she pointed at Xie Jun and asked Bai Zhi, “Has he been awake this whole time?”
Bai Zhi shrugged. “Mhm. I expect he’s been awake for quite a while.”
Xie Qiang slowly turned her head toward the sitting Xie Jun like a robot. With no change in her expression, she asked, “When… when did you wake up?”
Xie Jun thought for a moment. “Around the time you said, ‘Good doggy, big doggy’?”
Good doggy—big doggy—
Xie Qiang was mortified. Her expression looked as if she had been hit by a high-voltage shock.
That was what she had said to Lei Lie when she was comforting him.
Lei Lie had just finished a long shift monitoring the cockpit and was exhausted. She had been providing him with spiritual comfort, and in his exhaustion, Lei Lie had reverted to his wolf form.
She had been rubbing his big head and ears, hugging and kissing him while calling him a “big doggy, good doggy.”
Heavens, what had she done in front of her brother?
If he had heard that, did he also hear her acting like a queen in front of Yan Ci, making him do this and that, telling him to open the skylight, and even stepping on his chest while saying, “My word is law, and you must obey”?
And her heart-to-heart with Si Ye… Heavens, was there a hole she could crawl into and bury herself? She could never show her face again.
Although Bai Zhi hadn’t heard what Xie Qiang said while comforting the other three, he could imagine it.
She had never said such things to him.
Jealousy made him clench his fists again. He decided he had to experience a different kind of comforting session later.
He suppressed his feelings and said, “Xie Jun must be hungry. Let’s get him something to eat.”
