Chapter 6: An EmbraceâAs if to Rub Him into His Very Bones and Blood⊠part 1
The guest at the door was truly too unexpected.
Even Pei Lexin was dazed for a moment before reacting. She wiped her lips lightly with a napkin and confirmed with the butler again, “Who did you say is here?”
“It is Young Master Gu Chuanzhou,” the butler replied.
“How strange. Our Pei family almost never has dealings with the Gu family. Why would he suddenly come to the door…” Pei Lexin was puzzled, but given the personâs significant status in the Gu family, she had the butler invite him in without a second thought. She then said to the two stunned boys, “You two keep eating, don’t stay hungry. Iâll go entertain the guest.”
However, neither Pei Wang nor Yu Xi had any appetite left at this point.
“Whatâs the situation?” Pei Wang muttered to himself, instinctively glancing at Yu Xi.
Yu Xi didn’t look at him; his eyes were staring blankly toward the door.
A moment later, the person arrived with the butler, standing at the entrance.
Because there were few people dining in this house, the Pei family was used to eating at a small dining table connected to the living room, allowing them to observe the situation at the door.
However, the glass screen partition at the foyer blocked the view. Yu Xi could only see a tall figure blurred by the glass and hear a voice as cold and low as the striking of jade.
“Apologies for the sudden intrusion. This bottle of Bordeaux is a friendâs vintage. I brought it for Ms. Pei to taste.”
“Why so polite?” Pei Lexin, a wine enthusiast, was all smiles. “Chuanzhou, we haven’t met in a long time, have we? Even when we meet at banquets, thereâs no chance to speak properly. Come, come inside. We happen to be eating; why don’t you join us?”
“Thereâs no need for the trouble.” The man didn’t move. His ink-black eyes swept past Pei Lexin, accurately catching the youth who was peeking at him from behind the glass partition. A subtle smile immediately flickered in his eyes. “I came this time to find Xixi.”
…
The landscaping of HuzĂ© JĆ«ntĂng had been heavily invested in and was extremely exquisite. Bluish-gray stone slabs formed winding walking paths, surrounded by carefully crafted shrubs and flowerbeds. Walking along the path, one couldn’t hear any sounds of people or carsâonly the natural chirping of insects.
At this evening hour, it happened to be the coolest time of the midsummer. When the wind blew, the air was filled with the scent of grass, trees, and flowers.
Yu Xi kept his hands behind his back, trailing a step behind the man, secretly observing him.
Above his red-soled leather shoes was a well-tailored, high-quality dark suit covering the manâs tall and slender frame. The suit jacket hung over his arm, and the shirt sleeves beneath his vest were rolled up, revealing strong, powerful arms and a brilliantly shining luxury watch.
Because of the angle, Yu Xi could only see Gu Chuanzhouâs side profile.
A well-defined jawline, a noble and deep bone structure, and cold, sharp eyes… he could vaguely find a few similarities that matched his memory.
But the difference was vast. If the other person hadn’t come to his door, Yu Xi wasn’t sure if he could have recognized his identity at first glance.
Even if he had recognized him, he certainly wouldn’t have had the courage to step forward and greet him… Whether it was the manâs powerful and steady aura or the extraordinary status behind him, it all made Yu Xi hesitate.
When he was little, he already felt that Gu Chuanzhou, who was several years older than him, was different from all the other childrenâsteady beyond his years, with almost nothing he wasn’t good at.
Now, Yu Xi still didn’t understand the unfathomable depths of wealthy families, nor was he clear on the Gu familyâs situation. But from the fragments of others’ words, he deeply understood what a distant existence the Gu family was, and that Gu Chuanzhou was someone even Auntie Pei had to respect.
Why… would such an incredible person take the initiative to find him?
He was at most a childhood playmate to the other; he didn’t even count as an old friend.
…
“Does it meet Xixi’s expectations?”
Suddenly, the man stopped walking and turned around to ask.
Yu Xi, who had been caught peeking while zoning out, almost bumped into him. He asked blankly, “What?”
Gu Chuanzhou lowered his head, staring at the youth before him. His deep eyes were speckled with the soft light of the streetlamps, and a shallow curve always remained on his lips.
“The way I look now that Iâm grown up,” he said.
“…” Yu Xi was even more dazed.
He never expected the first sentence the man would say after their reunion would be this.
Yu Xi stammered his answer, “Itâs… itâs very good.”
Even more unexpected was Gu Chuanzhouâs next sentence.
“Xixi has been stealing glances at me just now. It made me very nervous.”
“Uh, mhm…” Caught red-handed, Yu Xiâs cheeks warmed, and he lowered his head. “Iâm sorry.”
The corner of Gu Chuanzhouâs lips curved slightly. “Itâs alright. If Xixi wants to look, then look as much as you want. Thereâs no need to feel sorry.”
Such gentleness only made Yu Xi more bashful, and he lowered his head even further.
He hurried to change the subject. “Have you been doing well?”
Gu Chuanzhou was silent for two seconds before asking back, “What about Xixi?”
Yu Xiâs eyes flickered slightly, and he nodded silently.
Next, he heard Gu Chuanzhou say, “If I said I haven’t been doing very well, what would Xixi do?”
Yu Xi looked up in shock, only to meet Gu Chuanzhouâs smiling eyes again.
“Just kidding.”
Gu Chuanzhou turned around and continued walking forward slowly. “I didn’t know Xixi would care about that. After all, during all these years, there was no news from you at allânot even a phone call…”
Yu Xiâs heart began to throb with a fine pain. He watched Gu Chuanzhouâs tall back, caught up to him, and parted his lips, yet he explained nothing, only saying, “Iâm sorry.”
“I didn’t mean to blame you.” Gu Chuanzhou stepped into the darkest spot between the lights. Pitch-black tree shadows fell over him, obscuring the expression on his face. “I only hate my own incompetence.”
Yu Xiâs breathing hitched.
“If I had been stronger back then, I would have done everything in my power to keep Xixi by my side. Even if I only caught a tiny clue about you from the Pei family, I would have found you… But by the time I truly reached this height, it was all too late.”
This bitter, self-deprecating tone reached Yu Xiâs ears like a ball of water-soaked cotton, clogging his chest with a heavy dullness.
He was the one who had left with his family and disappeared without a trace; why was Gu Chuanzhou the one blaming himself?
Yu Xi instinctively wanted to apologize, but then realized the words “Iâm sorry” were incredibly powerless at this moment.
He hadn’t thought the other person would still be bothered by it after all these years. He had even convinced himself it was just a childhood matter and that he was insignificant to these people.
Yu Xiâs eyes couldn’t help but heat up, and he was pressed down by guilt, unable to lift his head.
So when Gu Chuanzhou said, “Let me hold you for a bit, okay?” in a tone that made his heart ache, he didn’t hesitate to take two large steps and throw himself into the otherâs embrace.
The moment their two warm bodies touched, even the summer night wind seemed to slow down. The surroundings were so quiet that only their breathing could be heard.
Yu Xiâs nose was pressed against Gu Chuanzhouâs shoulder. He smelled a light scent of mint and wood, as well as a masculine aura. Even clearer was the heartbeat slightly lower down in the manâs chest.
He could hear it; it was very fast and very heavy. Every thump indicated how excited the owner of the body was at this moment.
It couldn’t be faked.
This discovery startled Yu Xi a bit, and the first thought that arose was: Am I worth him being like this?
The next second, Yu Xi had no more energy to think.
Gu Chuanzhouâs arms encircling him were gradually applying force, making them press tighter and tighter together until not a single gap remainedâairtight.
the suit jacket that had been hanging over his arm had long since fallen to the ground. Its owner didn’t care at all, only wanting to use both arms to tightly hold the person he had finally found again, tightening bit by bit while pressing his head against the youthâs neck.
“Ooh…”
Yu Xi was squeezed so hard he let out a shallow gasp. He could already feel pain where the five fingers were gripping him.
His feet were unconsciously lifted slightly by the force, and not just his chest, but his lower abdomen was also pressed seamlessly against Gu Chuanzhouâs, sweating from the transferred heat.
No one had ever held him with such force before, as if they wanted to rub him into their bones and blood, to become one.
It was a bit hard to breathe…
It was so uncomfortable.
Yet, whether it was the transferred heartbeat, the scorching breath against his neck, or the faintly trembling body, it all pointed to how much Gu Chuanzhou cared about him.
With his breathing so rapid, could he be cryingâŠ
