Part 4
Jiang Chenyan looked dazed. He saw the doctor walk over and pull up a chair to sit beside him.
Just as he was wondering about the doctor’s familiarity, the person took off their mask, revealing Kai Lanâs face.
Jiang Chenyan: “…”
The other also knew his blue eyes were too eye-catching and had intentionally worn brown contact lenses.
“Long time no see. How did you end up in this state?”
Kai Lanâs brows were tightly furrowed as he checked Jiang Chenyanâs condition.
Jiang Chenyan asked in return, “How did you sneak in here?”
Kai Lan curled his lips. “My family has connections, plus I placed spies in the school long ago. As soon as I heard something happened to you, I rushed over.” He paused, his smile fading a bit. “They only allowed me to sneak in this once. In a few days, theyâre going to exile me to another planet for a political marriage.”
Jiang Chenyan was silent for a few seconds, not knowing how to comfort Kai Lan. “Then what do you plan to do?”
“Just kidding.” Kai Lan laughed. “I’m fine for now.” As for the future, it was hard to say.
He clicked his tongue and changed the subject, his gaze landing on Jiang Chenyanâs pale face. “Let’s not talk about me. Whatâs the deal with the rain and the high fever?”
Jiang Chenyanâs voice was still a bit raspy. “After I took the suppressant that day, my state felt a bit off.”
“What? You went out in the rain after taking suppressants?” Kai Lan understood. “No wonder the fever was so bad. After taking suppressants, your body is at its weakest. You should be more careful during that time.”
Jiang Chenyan nodded. “By the way, that message you sent me before about the suppressants… what exactly was that about?”
Kai Lanâs brows furrowed instantly, his tone deepening. “I accidentally overheard a conversation between Ariel and his family… I had to push hard to get some clues. To be honest, I was terrified at the time, afraid it was you getting exposed.”
He gave a bitter laugh. “I didn’t expect it wasn’t you, and you haven’t been exposed. Looking at it this way, another Omega has managed to sneak into the school.”
Jiang Chenyanâs fingers curled slightly. He asked hesitantly, “You don’t look very…”
He thought for a moment about how to phrase it, then frowned. “Very pleased.”
“How can I be pleased?” Kai Lanâs voice tightened, his chest feeling stuffed with irritation. “Iâm frustrated! Why wasn’t it me who snuck in? To be honest, Iâm quite curious. Who exactly is the other Omega who snuck in?”
Jiang Chenyanâs Adamâs apple bobbed. The words reached his lips but got stuck, finally turning into silence. “…”
He knew that person was very likely Shen Shiyue.
Footsteps approached from outside. Kai Lan suddenly jerked up from the chair. His fingers quickly hooked the mask by the desk and pressed it back onto his face. “Exam finished. Just lie down and rest well.”
He walked toward the door. Seeing Shen Shiyue about to enter, he stopped and specifically instructed: “Don’t worry, your friend just has a minor issue. It’s nothing serious.”
Shen Shiyue: “…”
Jiang Chenyan didn’t want to lie down anymore. He propped himself up with his arm against the headboard, his gaze following Shen Shiyue as the man walked step by step to his side.
“How are you?” Shen Shiyue sat by his bed.
Jiang Chenyan squeezed out a faint smile. “Actually, I’m okay. Nothing major.”
Except for that dream, which was a bit horrifying.
Shen Shiyue nodded, turned to take a water cup from the desk, and held it to his lips. He watched him take two sips before speaking: “That doctor just now was quite enthusiastic. As soon as he heard you had a fever, he was busy helping out personally. He even kicked out the other doctors who were assisting.”
“Cough, coughâ” The water Jiang Chenyan had just taken in wasn’t swallowed properly, and he almost sprayed it out, coughing until his shoulders shook slightly.
Wait, what the heck?
Seeing him cough so hard his shoulders shook, Shen Shiyue reached out and gently stroked his back. A trace of a smile even touched the corners of his mouth. “Are you really that excited?”
Even though Shen Shiyue was smiling, Jiang Chenyan felt something was off. He couldn’t say where, but something was weird everywhere.
The next second, Shen Shiyueâs voice sounded again.
“Jiang Chenyan, have you noticed that you have quite a lot of charm? It seems quite a few people around you like you.”
It was a statement, not a question.
Jiang Chenyanâs coughing halted midway. He doubted if he had heard correctly. He had a lot of charm? Where was this charm? Why hadn’t he noticed it?
He always suspected he was a “born unlucky” type. Who was unluckier than him? His past life was smooth sailing until he was hit by a car, and then he inexplicably transmigrated into a book.
“I don’t think so.” Jiang Chenyan frowned. “Are you overthinking things?”
Shen Shiyue was amused by his serious expression. He took the water cup from Jiang Chenyanâs hand and lightly tapped the rim. His tone suddenly shifted: “Mhm, perhaps. But do you know? I heard that after you got a fever, Xie Huaijin came to see you.”
Jiang Chenyan: “…”
Why did that sound so bizarre?
He suspected Xie Huaijin only came to see if he was dead.
“Stop joking.”
“I’m not joking.” Shen Shiyueâs eyes darkened, shrouded in a layer of gloom. “But don’t worry, I already drove him away.”
Jiang Chenyan was stunned. “What?”
The Protagonist Shou drove the Protagonist Gong away?
“Whatâs wrong?” Shen Shiyueâs gaze locked onto him, his emotions unreadable. “You didn’t want me to drive him away?”
Jiang Chenyanâs scalp felt numb. “Itâs good that you drove him away.” He didn’t believe Xie Huaijin would be kind enough to visit him.
At those words, Shen Shiyueâs lips curled up. His gaze fell on the water cup on the nightstand, and his tone became even softer: “Want some more water? To moisten your throat.”
Jiang Chenyan shook his head, pulling his shoulders back a bit. His voice carried a bit of the rasp from just now. “No thanks.”
…
As expected of the high-tech medical care of an interstellar civilization, although Jiang Chenyanâs fever had hit 40 degrees, he recovered quickly.
In the blink of an eye, the day for intensive training arrived, and mecha operation training was officially put on the schedule. If Jiang Chenyan remembered correctly, the first round of the competition was most closely related to mecha control. If one couldn’t control a mecha well, theyâd likely have to pack their bags and leave.
Just as he finished packing his things, Ji Xuan arrived with two others. The group quickly changed into the unified black training uniforms and met up with other students in the hallway, heading toward the training grounds together.
Pheromone levels were linked to spiritual power. The higher the level, the stronger the spiritual power, and mecha control was heavily dependent on spiritual power.
The students around them couldn’t hide their excitement. They had waited a long time for this day, wishing they could get into the mechas immediately. Only Jiang Chenyan stood in the crowd, unable to smile at all.
He gripped the cuffs of his training uniform, his gaze falling on the silver-gray mechas parked in the distance. Everyone assumed those controlling mechas would be Alphas, but no one knew if an Omega could do it.
However, according to the book’s setting, Omegas could actually control mechas. Unlike Alphas, who used spiritual power for a direct connection, Omegas needed to use pheromones as a medium.
In other words, it was much harder for an Omega to control a mecha than an Alpha, requiring higher control over pheromones and greater mental stability.
This was also one of the reasons Omegas had never been required to enter military academies; whether in terms of physical stamina or pheromone influence, it was hard for them to be recognized.
The instructor stood by a mecha, holding a simulation controller for demonstration. “In a bit, youâll follow the team formation. Everyone should go up and try controlling it to get familiar with the steps.”
Ji Xuan stared at the mecha reflecting a cold light, looking extremely worried. “Then I probably have no chance.” His pheromones were pitifully low, practically non-existent.
Jiang Chenyan patted his shoulder. “Don’t jump to conclusions. You have to go up and try it first. Maybe it won’t be as hard as you think?”
When it finally came time for their group to queue up, a loud cheer suddenly erupted not far away. Someone shouted loudly, “Mu Shen is so amazing!”
Jiang Chenyan and Shen Shiyue followed the sound and saw Mu Sixian sitting in the mecha cockpit.
Under his control, every strike of the silver-gray mechaâs arm-blade was fast and precise. He deftly dodged simulated enemy attacks before counter-attacking at an extreme speed.
With a loud BOOM, he actually blew the opponent away.
Ji Xuan: “So powerful.”
Jiang Chenyan looked at him but didn’t speak.
No one would have guessed that Ji Xuan was the hidden boss. In the late stages, at his peak, he could chase down and beat many high-ranking military officers.
At that moment, the instructor blew a whistle and said to Jiang Chenyan, “It’s your turn. Get ready.”
His smile almost reached the back of his ears. “To be honest, Jiang Chenyan, you’re the one I’m most looking forward to.”
“I’m not bragging, but your level is higher than Mu Sixian’s. Youâll definitely be even more amazing than him.”
Jiang Chenyan: “…”
Please, just stop talking.
“I wouldn’t dare claim that.”
The instructor: “Don’t be humble. Look at how flashy everyone else is.”
