Chapter 84: Sharing Half My Luck with You part 1
“Although Jiang Yan went to the professional arena, contact between him and me didn’t decrease.” Lin Cheng took a sip of the drink in front of him and continued, “As long as I had time, I would go watch his matches.”
“Until that day, I got into a car accident on the road,” Lin Cheng said. “It was Jiang Yan who helped me scrape together the surgery fees.”
“I kept questioning him, and only then was Jiang Yan willing to tell me that to save me, he asked his family for money.” When Lin Cheng mentioned what happened back then, the expression on his face became heavy. “His father’s requirement for him was to stop fooling around outside and go back to study properly.”
“Jiang Yan was just a student when he came out into society to form a team with us. The wages offered after going to WK were far from enough for my medical expenses.”
Wen Ran was startled. “Did he retire because of this?”
Lin Cheng clenched his fist and gave a low hum.
“If not for Jiang Yan, I might not be here anymore,” Lin Cheng said. “But Jiang Yan said he doesn’t regret it.”
“He even comforted me, saying he had already won a championship. As long as the timing was right, he would find a way to come back.”
Lin Cheng said, “I hope to see him return to the arena more than anyone else.”
Wen Ran was speechless for a long time. So Jiang Yan had experienced so many things.
No wonder he said he also had times of high pressure. But at that time, was there anyone by his side to accompany him?
“Jiang Yan has always been like thatâreliable, gentle,” Lin Cheng said. “It seems like nothing can strike him down, and he can do everything very well.”
“Although he treats us friends and brothers very well, he won’t rely on us.”
“But now, he has you by his side.” Lin Cheng looked at Wen Ran with a smile and said, “I can tell he likes you very much.”
“Many people pursued Jiang Yan before, but he wasn’t interested.” Lin Cheng gossiped to Wen Ran with a keen face. “Back when we were playing wild tournaments in internet cafes, many pretty girls would crowd over to watch him and even buy him drinks wanting to get to know him. Jiang Yan would reject them coldly.”
“I still have photos of him at seventeen here,” Lin Cheng said. “Send them to you?”
Seventeen-year-old Jiang Yan?!
Wen Ran immediately took out his phone and added Lin Cheng on WeChat.
Lin Cheng sent over a photo.
In a messy internet cafe, Jiang Yanâs slender fingers were pressed on a keyboard, and his other hand was pinching his headset, intending to take it off.
The photo was a candid shot, and the phone’s pixel quality was average, yet one could feel Jiang Yanâs high spirits and vigor.
He must have won a match.
Seventeen-year-old Jiang Yanâs looks were already outstanding, but compared to now, there was a bit more youthful rawness. He was the type most people would crush on during their student days.
He was casually wearing sportswear, making him look even younger.
Wen Ran pressed his finger on that photo. What was I doing at that time?
Probably just ran away from home.
“What are you two chatting about?” Jiang Yanâs voice came over. Fang Xing was behind him, holding a charger.
“I told Ran-Ran a little about your past.” Lin Cheng blinked and said, “Just waiting for you two. Come on, eat, or it’ll get cold!”
Jiang Yan saw himself on Wen Ranâs phone. “So you sent my photo to Ran-Ran too?”
“Anyway, you’re handsome as always,” Fang Xing spoke up. “Otherwise, you wouldn’t have caught Ran-Ran, right?”
“Sister-in-law hit the nail on the head.”
“Come come come, Jiang Yan can’t drink alcohol, so we’ll use drinks as a substitute. Cheers!” Fang Xing had a loud voice. “Congratulating you on winning the championship again!”
Wen Ran didn’t know what was going on, but he felt the grilled green peppers tonight were exceptionally delicious, and he ate two skewers in a row.
Fang Xing was sharp-eyed and handed him two more skewers. “Ran-Ran likes this? Eat more.”
“Don’t!” Jiang Yan spoke up, startling Fang Xing. “He has a bad stomach and can’t eat indiscriminately. Sister-in-law, don’t feed him randomly!”
Fang Xingâs hand holding the grilled green peppers froze in mid-air, then retracted. “Oh, oh, okay.”
Then Fang Xing watched helplessly as Jiang Yan took away all the stuff in front of Wen Ran. “These things irritate the stomach lining, you can’t eat anymore.”
Wen Ran: “???”
But I only ate two skewers of green peppers and three skewers of lamb so far!
Jiang Yan patted Wen Ranâs head. “I’ll cook porridge for you when we get back.”
Lin Cheng had a look of doting amusement. “Tsk tsk, Jiang Yan can actually cook now. Indeed, love changes people.”
“Does Ran-Ran not know you used to be a kitchen killer?”
Wen Ran was confused. Kitchen killer? The porridge Jiang Yan cooks tastes pretty good!
And sometimes he makes noodles for me.
“Sigh, people have to advance with the times.” Jiang Yan smiled. “Learning for the sake of a partner isn’t shameful.”
He glanced gently at Wen Ran. “Otherwise, who would raise this dummy?”
“Yo yo yo, showing off!” Fang Xing looked at the two of them playfully. “Old Lin and I have been married for so many years, yet we still got flashed.”
Only Wen Ran blushed to the tips of his ears and pinched Jiang Yanâs arm. “Who are you calling a dummy?”
Jiang Yan raised his hands in surrender. “Wrong, wrong. Not a dummy, it’s my family’s obedient treasure.”
Lin Cheng and Fang Xing: “Can’t watch, can’t watch!”
After a brief gathering, Fang Xing and Lin Cheng got up, saying they had to go back to the hotel.
They had to catch a train early the next morning.
“Not staying for two days?” Jiang Yan said. “I’ll take you around.”
“Lele is still at home. Besides, we have to go back to watch the shop.”
“We’ll come see you again when we have time next time.” Fang Xing patted Wen Ran on the shoulder. “Ran-Ran, come play when you’re free. Sister-in-law will make lotus root boxes for you.”
Wen Ran hummed a yes.
After returning to the base, Jiang Yan really went to cook porridge for him.
After drinking a small bowl of plain porridge, Wen Ran struggled for a long time before speaking:
“Jiang Yan, Brother Lin told me about your past.”
“So, you retired because of that incident.”
“Sorry Ran-Ran, I didn’t tell you this.” Jiang Yan squatted halfway down, holding his hand. “It’s not that I didn’t want to tell you.”
“I wanted to find a suitable time. But we kept playing matches, so I put it aside first.”
“I didn’t expect Brother Lin to say it for me first.”
Wen Ran had guessed many reasons for Wind’s retirement, but no matter what, he wouldn’t have thought of this layer.
Wen Ran hummed. “Then when did you originally plan to come back?”
“From the day you decided to play professionally, I prepared to come back.” Jiang Yan smiled. “Don’t you like Wind?”
“Wind also wanted to come back to accompany you to battle on the stage.”
It was just that he was tied up by some matters; things promised to the old man had to be done.
Wen Ran was still a bit worried. “Then you won’t drop out of school again this time, will you?”
Taking out a diploma from Liqing University would be so prestigious. If Jiang Yan didn’t get it after being recommended for admission, just thinking about it was painful!
“What nonsense are you thinking!” Jiang Yan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Do I have some illness where I’m addicted to dropping out?”
“Then…”
“Wouldn’t it be fine to finish the credits early and enter the internship period?” Jiang Yan said. “Our school’s requirements for internship sites are very broad. Interning at an esports club is allowed; just getting a stamp and taking it back to school will do.”
Wen Ran thought to himself, Is that what you call getting a stamp? I guess asking the WK club owner to write the internship report for you would work too.
And if Wind wants a stamp, he could probably get the League Headquarters’ stamp.
This internship is pretty awesome too. Others intern by working odd jobs; he came in directly and took a championship.
“But don’t you still have a company?” Wen Ran was curious. “Can you handle being so busy?”
“Of course I can’t handle it. Keeping the investor status to earn some dividends is enough.”
“These things were all arranged, proceeding step by step according to my plan.” Jiang Yan said, “However, a little accident happened, so I could only advance it.”
Wen Ran heard his tone when saying “accident” was a bit off, and his eyelids twitched.
Sure enough, Jiang Yan immediately sighed and lamented, “The boyfriend I had in hand blocked me and ran away. Little bastard, would you say this counts as a big accident?”
Wen Ran: “……”
Suddenly, he thought of something. “So in that interview, when you said you came back to find a partner, you weren’t joking?!”
“Of course not!” Jiang Yan pinched his nose. “Little ingrate, starting to doubt Brother’s loyalty to you?”
Wen Ran: “……” I’m not, I didn’t.
Since there were no scrims during the offseason, it was considered a holiday. Wen Ran’s birthday was three days after the finals, on December 17th.
Originally, he planned to return to D City, but Manager Wu and the coach insisted on keeping him to celebrate his birthday. Wen Ran couldn’t beat them and could only obey the arrangement.
As the birthday boy, Wen Ran was chased to the livestream room early in the morning, under the pretext that it wouldn’t be a surprise if he saw the preparations.
As soon as Wen Ran’s livestream started, the fans’ bullet comments became active.
[Yo, Rebellious Son still remembers your account password?]
[Tears in my eyes, family. I’m telling my grandma the streamer you follow is live!]
[Haven’t greeted the family for so long. I can’t forgive you unless you kneel and kowtow twice!]
[Something’s wrong. Why are you so early today? Doesn’t look like you.]
[I’m still in bed, and this sprayer is dressed neatly. Impossible, absolutely impossible!]
“You think everyone is like you guys,” Wen Ran glanced at the bullet comments. “Spring sleepy, summer tired, autumn snoozing. Those who know realize I got up; those who don’t would think I called you to steal cows.”
[Do you know how to talk? Daddy came kindly to see you, and this is how you treat Daddy?]
[Why are you still at the base? Doesn’t Dawn go home for the holidays?]
“I’m going back,” Wen Ran said. “But it will be tomorrow or the day after.”
“For transportation, I should take the high-speed train.”
[High-speed train is good, very fast!]
[Baby is so obedient today. Pay attention to rest on the high-speed train, don’t get tired.]
Wen Ran: “Are you not awake yet? It’s me taking the high-speed train, not me carrying the high-speed train and running.”
“Also, who is your baby? Don’t think about secretly taking advantage of Daddy!”
Bullet comments: “……”
[Forget it, for the sake of your birthday today, won’t bicker with you. Happy Birthday!]
[Happy Birthday!]
