Chapter 71: Should Keep Distance from Alphas
“What are you two laughing about?” Ye Zhichen shouted at them.
“None of your business!” Leng Xingtu snapped back.
Ye Zhichen scoffed, then turned to Ye Zhile. “Lele, I bought some supplements for you and had Uncle Xu take them to the kitchen. You must eat them properly; no being a picky eater.”
“I’m not,” Ye Zhile mumbled. Ye Zhichen asked again, “How is your health?”
“It’s fine.” Ye Zhile spread his hands. Ye Zhichen clearly didn’t believe him. “Give it a rest. I can tell just by looking at your face.”
Ye Zhile fell silent.
Meanwhile, Ruan Chenxin, who had been treated as invisible, was gnashing his teeth in anger.
Ji Shuohan returned in the evening. Ye Zhile sat on the sofa and turned his head. “My Lord is back.”
“Mhm,” Ji Shuohan responded.
“Have you eaten?” Ye Zhile stood up. “There’s food kept warm in the kitchen. If you haven’t eaten, I’ll have someone bring it over.”
“Okay.”
Ye Zhile sat at the dining table. Ji Shuohan looked up. “What is it?”
“My Lord…” Ye Zhile hesitated. Under Ji Shuohan’s gaze, he asked, “Do you intend to let Mr. Ruan live here permanently?”
Ji Shuohan said, “You are the other master of this Manor. You can make the decision yourself.”
“But…” Ye Zhile pursed his lips. Seeing Ji Shuohan lower his head to eat without paying him any more attention, he clenched his palms.
He wasn’t his savior; how was he supposed to arrange things?
Ji Shuohan went to the study after dinner. Ye Zhile sat at the table for a while, then sighed and went upstairs.
The next day was the day for Ye Zhile’s hospital follow-up. He got dressed and went downstairs. Ji Shuohan hadn’t left for work yet. He asked, “Does My Lord not need to work today?”
“I’m not going.” Ji Shuohan asked in return, “Where are you going?”
“To the hospital for a follow-up,” Ye Zhile said. “Would My Lord like to come with me?”
“No, I have something to do later,” Ji Shuohan said.
Ye Zhile noticed Ji Shuohan was wearing his full military uniform, looking meticulous. He asked, “Where is My Lord going?”
“To see a friend,” Ji Shuohan said briefly.
Ye Zhile said no more. He nodded and took the car to the hospital.
Spring had arrived again. Through the car window, Ye Zhile saw the plants at the Manor starting to sprout. This year’s New Year was spent in the ICU. His concept of time was a bit blurred now; time passed too quickly, and joy and pain lasted only an instant.
“The glands are much better than before. It seems having Enigma pheromone comfort has worked,” the doctor said with relief.
Ye Zhile smiled but didn’t speak. The doctor asked again, “Did your family not accompany you?”
“They’re a bit busy, so I came alone,” Ye Zhile said.
“Next time, have your Enigma come with you. I can’t exactly have an Omega like you go and beg him for pheromones,” the doctor teased.
However, Ye Zhile—who really did have to ask for pheromones—couldn’t laugh. He felt a sense of tragedy, but then he thought that being too serious with an amnesiac would be petty.
As Ye Zhile walked out of the consultation room, he heard a young couple arguing. The Omega said angrily to his Alpha:
“We’ve only been together for a few days, why are you talking to me about eternal love?!”
“But I like you!”
“How many days have you liked me? Has it even been a month? Those who were madly in love before all ended up saying they don’t love each other anymore.”
Ye Zhile stopped abruptly, as if a nerve had been struck. He and My Lord had been married for almost two years. My Lord was missing for over a year, and the time he spent liking him wasn’t even half a year—he didn’t even know if it had been a month. Why was he so certain that My Lord loved him and would still love him after waking up?
Ye Zhile’s heart suddenly ached intensely. He leaned against the wall, thinking of the person My Lord said he was going to see this morning.
What kind of person was worth My Lord wearing a formal uniform to see?
Ye Zhile’s emotions were bordering on a breakdown. He repeatedly told himself not to hold it against an amnesiac patient, but he couldn’t do it!
“Lele!”
Ye Zhile looked up with tearful eyes. Lu Xingyan ran toward him, helping him sit on a chair with a tense face. “What’s wrong? Are you uncomfortable somewhere?”
Ye Zhile shook his head, his tears falling. He asked in a raspy voice, “Brother Xingyan, why are you here?”
“Oh, Haocheng ate something bad and came to the hospital.” Lu Xingyan looked at those red eyes, his heart aching too. “Lele, why are you at the hospital alone? Where is the Leader?”
“It’s fine. I just came for a follow-up. I’m already better,” Ye Zhile forced a smile.
Lu Xingyan hesitated. He wondered if Lele had been mistreated by the Leader; otherwise, why would he come to the hospital alone? But seeing Ye Zhile like this, he was afraid of poking at his wounds.
“I’ll see you down,” Lu Xingyan said.
“Okay,” Ye Zhile responded.
Lu Xingyan supported Ye Zhile as they went downstairs. After he saw him into the car, Han Haocheng rushed out. “Alright, Lu Xingyan! I was wondering where you went! You were secretly seeing the little beauty!”
Ye Zhile was amused by Han Haocheng and waved. “I’m leaving now. Let’s get together another day.”
“Mhm.” Lu Xingyan nodded.
“Bye-bye, little beauty!” Han Haocheng waved. Once the car left, he grabbed Lu Xingyan. “What happened to the little beauty? Why did he come to the hospital? Did he cry? His eyes were so red.”
Lu Xingyan gave him a look of “I can’t even look at you” and pushed him away. “Are you still in pain? If not, we’re going back.”
“The pain was sharp just now, but it’s gone now.” Han Haocheng caught up. “I heard the Leader has amnesia. Has their relationship hit a crisis? Do I have a chance?”
“You have a zero percent chance,” Lu Xingyan answered heartlessly.
“Tch! You’re just jealous! You have a negative chance!”
When Ye Zhile returned home, the Supreme Leader wasn’t back yet. Ruan Chenxin sat on the sofa. Seeing him, he remarked, “I saw Brother Shuohan leave with a bouquet of flowers this morning. I thought he went out with you.”
He seemed to mention it casually, then turned his head away and ignored Ye Zhile.
Ye Zhile froze for a moment, then went to his room to sleep. By the time he woke up, it was almost dark outside. Ye Zhile washed his face and went downstairs. The Supreme Leader was sitting at the dining table, looking at him with a strange gaze.
Ye Zhile didn’t understand the look. “Why is My Lord looking at me?”
His voice was soft and gentle, even more so after his illness. Ji Shuohan looked away and said something that made Ye Zhile even more confused:
“You are already married. You should keep your distance from other Alphas.”
“What does My Lord mean?” Ye Zhile looked at him.
Ji Shuohan said no more, but the scene at the hospital flashed through his mind again—the top-tier Alpha holding Ye Zhile as they walked out, looking very close.
Ji Shuohan had looked into it; that person was Ye Zhile’s friend. The two even had an incident of pheromone loss of control once. If he hadn’t arrived in time, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Translator’s Note: “Eternal love” (海誓山盟) is a classic idiom often used in romance. Also, Ji Shuohan is getting jealous even without his memories! The “friend” he went to see with flowers… I hope it’s not another love interest!
