Chapter 27: Don’t Cause a Fatality
Mu Feng didn’t know if it was because he had drunk too much, but he felt as if he were hallucinating.
He watched Liang Yuhang walk up to him, and he even recklessly reached out to pat the other’s face. “It’s warm.”
Liang Yuhang: “…I haven’t had time to die yet.”
Mu Feng tilted his head. “How did you suddenly appear from the phone?”
“You really drank too much; you’ve turned stupid.” Liang Yuhang stared at him. “What do you think?”
Mu Feng thought about it, not daring to guess. “You didn’t… come to find me right after the first video call, did you?”
He didn’t think Liang Yuhang would do such a thing. This man, aside from necessary contact for work, wished he could just vanish and cut off all private contact.
So he negated himself. “You were nearby discussing business and just happened to stop by.”
“I wasn’t discussing business.” Liang Yuhang was only wearing a shirt, hands tucked in his pockets. Without his military uniform, he looked more like a playboy who frequently appeared in such settings. “I was afraid a certain drunk would keep harassing me.”
The implication was that he really had come specifically to pick him up.
Mu Feng started laughing, his eyes brighter than the stars in the sky. “You’re so kind.”
Liang Yuhang gave a very soft click of his tongue.
He had actually been given a “nice person” card.
He looked at the other’s swaying form, reaching out to support him. “Are we going? Any later and the base will be closed.”
“Mhm, I have to tell Xiao Jiang and the others.” Mu Feng turned around, just in time to see Jiang Yu’an pushing open the door and coming out.
They were a split second away from being face-to-face.
For some reason, feeling guilty like a thief, Mu Feng suddenly yanked open a nearby tool room, pushed Liang Yuhang inside, and then ducked in and quickly shut the door.
Liang Yuhang, tall and long-legged, was forced to squeeze into a small corner, his hands and feet unsure of where to go.
“…I’m that embarrassing to be seen with?”
Mu Feng scanned the outside through a small window. “Mhm, it’s not very convenient.”
Liang Yuhang: “…”
He looked down; the other was almost pressed against his chest, completely unaware.
“Mu Bao! Mu Bao! Where is he? Wasn’t he just here?” Jiang Yu’an turned in circles by the railing, shouting at the top of his lungs, “Zhou Tiantian! He’s gone! And he’s still freaking drinking!”
“Huh???”
Hearing the noise, Zhou Tiantian came out, leaning over the railing to look at the sea below. “He couldn’t have fallen in, could he!”
Mu Feng really had a massive headache.
He wanted to move, only to find that the back of the room was filled to the brim with junk from the ship’s cabin; there was no space.
So he looked up, his gaze a bit dazed. “What do we do?”
“You’re the one who dragged me in here; handle it yourself.” Liang Yuhang was clearly very dissatisfied with this hiding behavior.
It wasn’t like they were having an affair; why all the secrecy?
Mu Feng was a bit helpless. It was true; when had Colonel Liang ever suffered such an indignity?
But now that they were in, going out would make it even harder to explain with eight hundred mouths.
He had a delayed realization. “We’re floating on the sea. How did you get on?”
Liang Yuhang said it as if it were a common occurrence: “The cruise ship’s helicopter shuttle service.”
Mu Feng: “…” I feel like you play even wilder than Xiao Jiang; you even know about that.
“Want to control me?” Liang Yuhang asked.
His questions were always very direct. Mu Feng didn’t dare look into those eyes for too long, for fear of exposing his emotions. “No, just asking.”
Just then, his phone suddenly started vibrating.
Mu Feng quickly looked down. It was Jiang Yu’an, already starting a frantic series of “life-demanding” calls.
He had no choice but to answer, keeping his voice very low. “What is it?”
“Are you in the kitchen stealing food? Why is your voice so small?” Jiang Yu’an also lowered his voice to mimic him. “I’m looking for you; you vanished in the blink of an eye.”
“You two have fun. I’m planning to leave first,” Mu Feng said.
“Leave where?” Jiang Yu’an looked around. Aside from the mountains in the distance, there was only the swaying seawater nearby. “Are you going to jump into the sea? No way! Dying in the sea will turn you into a bloated mess!”
Liang Yuhang couldn’t stand their bickering and took the phone. “I’m taking him away. We’re doing practical drills tonight.”
Jiang Yu’an really couldn’t take it anymore and cursed loudly, “Are you sick? Even a beast shouldn’t be worked like this, right? Who does practical drills at midnight???”
[System: Call failed.]
“You don’t have a night life, but others do! Are you even human?”
Even through the door panel, Mu Feng was terrified listening.
Xiao Jiang, please have some mercy with your words. I’m afraid you’ll be silenced.
Liang Yuhang swept a glance at Mu Feng, seemingly very dissatisfied with being shut in here. “Not human. Is this the first day you’ve known that?”
Jiang Yu’an: “…”
He couldn’t win the argument, and he was so angry he really wanted to hire a hundred assassins to take him out.
Jiang Yu’an paced back and forth on the deck irritably. “You really took him away? In just a few minutes, you made him vanish into thin air? No, something’s not right.”
“If you keep shouting, I’ll throw him into the sea,” Liang Yuhang threatened calmly.
Jiang Yu’an ruffled his hair in frustration and turned to Zhou Tiantian with a serious face. “Let’s take out Liang Yuhang.”
Zhou Tiantian gasped. “Just you and me? Is your alcohol tolerance that bad? You’ve started talking nonsense after drinking, and your IQ has dropped by seventy percent.”
Jiang Yu’an realized he couldn’t count on anyone. “Let Mu Bao answer the phone.”
Liang Yuhang handed the phone back, looking calm as if saying, “Let’s see how you make this up.”
Mu Feng comforted him, “It’s fine. You two take your time playing. Come back early tomorrow. Use my card; you don’t need to pay me back.”
“You’ve really been PUA’d by Liang Yuhang. Who rushes to be abused in the middle of the night? Who knows what that guy is up to!” Jiang Yu’an said crossly. “I don’t care about you anymore!!!”
Mu Feng sighed. Looking through the window, he saw Jiang Yu’an dragging Zhou Tiantian away in a huff.
“See? Being open and aboveboard wouldn’t have caused all this trouble,” Liang Yuhang said candidly.
Mu Feng thought, It’s really just my own guilty conscience.
He silently pushed open the door to the tool room. In the end, he was still afraid of being discovered and was very sneaky. “Where is the helicopter?”
Liang Yuhang was truly out of options. “To the left.”
Mu Feng turned to the right in a daze and was grabbed by Liang Yuhang. “Can’t tell left from right?”
Even after boarding the helicopter, Mu Feng’s head was still heavy—half from the alcohol and half from Jiang Yu’an’s shouting.
When they reached the shore and switched to a car, he leaned halfway into the seat, tilting his head and closing his eyes.
By the time they arrived, the base was already closed. Liang Yuhang could only change direction and take the person back to his own home.
0717 called: “The cat has been fed, the clothes have been washed, and today’s work log is finished. May I ask when you will be returning? The great 0717 is waiting to clock out.”
“I’m not coming back,” Liang Yuhang said. “Going home today.”
0717 raised its voice: “Why didn’t you take me when you went home! I also miss my comfortable little bed at home! This wretched base, I can only sleep on the sofa; it’s hard as hell, and that bad cat often sits on my face.”
“You’re very noisy.” Liang Yuhang couldn’t be bothered to explain to it, reaching out to pat Mu Feng’s face. “Wake up.”
Mu Feng let out a light hum, moving slightly without opening his eyes.
Hearing the noise, 0717: “…”
Fine, fine. So he had brought Mu Feng back again. Forgetting duty for beauty—how excessive.
0717 reminded him snarkily, “I’m not there, and those ‘items’ aren’t either. Don’t cause a fatality, or it’ll be hard to clean up the mess.”
Liang Yuhang directly hung up the communication.
“Mu Feng, get up.” Liang Yuhang patted him again.
Mu Feng was in a daze and turned to rub against his palm like a cat.
Liang Yuhang froze for a second.
Where did this habitual movement come from? It seemed completely subconscious.
“Go inside to sleep,” Liang Yuhang’s voice grew a bit colder. “If you don’t get up, I’m leaving you here.”
Hearing this, Mu Feng finally opened his eyes blearily. “Ah, we’re here. Isn’t this your house?”
Liang Yuhang hummed in response, unbuckled his seatbelt, and got out on his own.
Mu Feng quickly followed, his steps a bit unsteady. “Did I cause you trouble?”
“You are quite a bit of trouble,” Liang Yuhang evaluated. “It’s good that you know.”
Mu Feng knew he was in the wrong and felt that Liang Yuhang must still be angry about being pushed into the tool room earlier.
It made sense; someone had kindly come from far away, only to be treated like that. Anyone would be unhappy.
“Professor Liang,” Mu Feng called his name. “What do you want to eat tomorrow morning?”
Liang Yuhang glanced at him. “What are you up to now?”
“An apology.” Mu Feng’s tone was very obedient. “I was wrong. I won’t lock you in next time.”
Liang Yuhang gave a light snort and pushed open the door. Sensing something wasn’t right, he reached out to shield Mu Feng behind him.
“Someone’s here.” Mu Feng’s spiritual power was very keen; he instantly became halfway sober, his whole body tensing up.
Who would dare break into Colonel Liang’s house at a time like this?
Was it Liang Jingyi? Or someone else? Mu Feng’s mind was in a mess. Looking down, he saw that Liang Yuhang was already reaching for the gun he carried with him.
Liang Yuhang entered silently, aiming at the dark shadow in the study and firing decisively.
The person was hit in the knee, turned back to fire a return shot—the bullet grazing Liang Yuhang’s arm—and then jumped straight out the window, escaping efficiently.
Mu Feng wanted to rush forward and jump after them, but just as he stepped out, he was grabbed by Liang Yuhang. “You won’t catch them. Don’t chase.”
Mu Feng’s breath hitched as he leaned against the window and looked down. He couldn’t see anything anymore.
Liang Yuhang seemed accustomed to such things, not even checking himself. “Are you hurt?”
“No.” Mu Feng turned around, looking at the other through the night.
He lowered his head, his hands trembling as he reached for the blood seeping through the shirt, filled with both worry and intense self-reproach.
If he hadn’t insisted on the man picking him up, how could they have had a direct confrontation?
Liang Yuhang thought he was scared and reached out to pat his back in comfort. “It’s fine. I’ll have someone investigate.”
Mu Feng kept his lips pressed tight, not saying a word.
Liang Yuhang looked down at him. “Scared stiff? Why is your face so pale?”
Mu Feng still hadn’t regained his composure. His tone was as gentle as usual, yet it was dark and ruthless.
“Professor Liang, find that person. I want to kill him.”
Translator’s Note:
The phrase “Don’t cause a fatality” (不要搞出人命) is a common euphemism in Chinese that can mean either “don’t kill someone” or “don’t get someone pregnant.” 0717 is being its usual cheeky self! Also, Mu Feng showing his “ruthless” side really highlights that “White-cut-Yellow” personality—innocent on the outside, but don’t mess with his man!
