Chapter 2: Absolute Trash
Yun Yingzhi’s face pulled into a “pouty little brat” expression.
Seeing that Yun Yingzhi couldn’t hide his thoughts, the three roommates felt he was both beautiful and naive. Just like his Second Form, he really was an obedient, soft, and cute little white rabbit.
Yu Feiwen continued sharing his theory: “If nothing else, that friend probably rejected the lover’s confession.”
Yun Yingzhi thought about it. Yun Yingyao didn’t seem to have much passion for romance. If Huai Boshe really had confessed to her, the chance of her rejecting him was… very high.
Yun Yingzhi’s hands instinctively balled into fists. Looking at the “green” above his head, he was more than a little angry.
“According to my deduction, that person rejected the confession. Now, if the lover wants to see their ‘White Moonlight,’ it’s both awkward and difficult,” another roommate added.
“…” Yun Yingzhi played it out in his head. Huai Boshe confesses to Yun Yingyao, she rejects him, and meeting again would indeed be very awkward.
“So, they chose a ‘curving path to save the country.’ The lover confesses to your friend to use them as a bridge to keep paying attention to their true love, the White Moonlight,” Yu Feiwen said.
“Though, that lover is certainly ‘suffering’ for their true love by settling like this.”
Yun Yingzhi continued the mental play-by-play and was beyond furious. He looked at the top of his head again and felt the grassland had upgraded into a vast green sea of stars. He was incredibly angry, feeling that Huai Boshe was toying with his feelings.
He sniffled, looking quite dejected, and really wanted to give Huai Boshe a piece of his mind. But then he thought, he and Huai Boshe had grown up together. They were childhood playmates; Huai Boshe wouldn’t necessarily do something like that, right?
Yun Yingzhi said, “…What you’re saying makes sense, but… but there’s still a chance it’s a misunderstanding… right?”
The roommates’ gazes turned very subtle.
Yu Feiwen said, “Yingzhi, you listed so many details just now. Do you really think it could be a misunderstanding?”
“Ask your friend: during their time together, if he wanted to do something intimate with the lover, did she get unhappy and find every possible way to refuse?”
Hearing this, Yun Yingzhi instinctively touched his lips, then pulled his hand away under the roommates’ gaze. Speaking of which, he remembered. He and Huai Boshe had been dating for half a year, yet they hadn’t even hugged or held hands, let alone kissed.
As an adult, he was naturally curious about these things. He had once subtly hinted to Huai Boshe that he wanted a kiss, but every single time, Huai Boshe had unromantically avoided it.
Thinking about it made him so mad! His Second Form was a rabbit! Rabbits have heat cycles!
The more Yun Yingzhi thought about it, the more he felt that was exactly the case!
Seeing Yun Yingzhi was upset, Yu Feiwen patted his shoulder comfortingly. “Don’t be angry for your friend. Advise him that such a piece of trash isn’t worth it.”
Yun Yingzhi nodded and suddenly got out of bed. The three roommates looked at him in confusion.
Yun Yingzhi said, “I won’t be eating breakfast with you guys. I need to tell my ‘friend’ and have him get some clear answers!” He was going to have a showdown with Huai Boshe!
Yu Feiwen nodded. “Alright, go ahead.”
Yun Yingzhi dashed into the bathroom for a quick “battle shower” and came out wearing a bathrobe. The robe was loose, and water droplets trailed from his cheeks down to his collarbone. His exquisite features were breathtakingly beautiful. Almost simultaneously, the three roommates looked at him and then awkwardly averted their eyes.
He was truly heart-stoppingly beautiful. There was a saying: when you can’t help but keep looking at someone, it’s very easy to fall in love with them. They thought to themselves, with looks like that, who needs strength? He could conquer the sea of stars just with his face.
After looking away, they couldn’t help but peek back at him. By then, Yun Yingzhi had already taken out his uniform from the wardrobe.
Students at Fense Academy had to wear uniforms on campus. There were slight differences based on department, year, and class. Some students said it was like a hierarchy; Class 1 was the elite, while the last class was for the “bad” students. The uniforms categorized them into different social ranks.
Every time a uniform was changed, it was an expense, but even so, students worked hard to climb up. The competition was fierce. In Yun Yingzhi’s eyes, changing into a “better” uniform was like a level-up in a game.
Of course, Yun Yingzhi knew exactly where he stood. As the only fragile little white rabbit in a pack of fierce beasts, he had zero expectations for his own “level-up” path. He just hoped to graduate peacefully.
Take the advancement exam from freshman to sophomore year. Honestly, he couldn’t have passed it with his own abilities. He didn’t repeat the year because, for one, he relied on theoretical knowledge; for another, he focused on Source Weapon manufacturing. Additionally, his classmates in the combat department took it easy on him during practical exams. Lastly, the advancement exam mostly looked at credits, and team credits carried a heavy weight.
He had simply clung to the “thighs” of Huai Boshe and the other elite class students to pass. In short: I’m no good myself, so I rely on carrying.
Thinking of this, Yun Yingzhi became worried. If he and Huai Boshe broke up, what would he do for the sophomore-to-junior team exams?
Well, joining another group isn’t impossible, he thought.
While thinking, Yun Yingzhi had taken off his robe, revealing a “white-cut chicken” physique with no chest or abdominal muscles. His body, like his Second Form, gave off a feeling of zero aggression.
Seeing Yun Yingzhi openly changing in front of them with zero modesty, the three roommates immediately turned their heads away uncomfortably.
Yu Feiwen thought for a moment, then rushed forward and pushed Yun Yingzhi back into the bathroom under his confused gaze. “How many times have I told you? Change in the bathroom. Don’t change in front of everyone.”
Yun Yingzhi felt a bit wronged, once again thinking his roommates were overly conservative. How was changing in their own dorm “in front of everyone”? It was just changing clothes; was there a need for that? As military students, it was common for people to strip down on the field or in the training hall when it got hot.
Despite his thoughts, he respected his “old-fashioned” roommates and apologized: “Sorry, I was just in a hurry and forgot your conservative habits.”
The three roommates looked at each other, feeling that their school’s number one School Flower really had no self-awareness at all.
Once changed, Yun Yingzhi ran out, said goodbye, and dashed out of the dorm.
One student watched the door close and said, “Yingzhi said his friend’s lover fell for the friend’s friend.”
Another added, “Yingzhi definitely isn’t the ‘friend’ he mentioned.” He paused. “…I think he’s probably the ‘White Moonlight’ the lover is deeply in love with.”
“Makes sense.”
“Yingzhi really is a sinfully beautiful man.”
“But who is the ‘green-hatted’ guy who’s so close to Yingzhi?”
The group thought about his social circle. Yu Feiwen guessed: “…Huai Boshe?”
They looked at each other. One said, “Probably not… right? I don’t like Huai Boshe, but he’s pretty popular?” He wasn’t very sure.
While the roommates continued their gossip, the “green-hatted” Yun Yingzhi was sprinting toward Huai Boshe’s dorm. He had to ask in person.
Even though they were in the same department and year, their dorm buildings were different. The elite class dorms were much better than the tail-end class. Twenty elite students shared a large villa, each with a private room, and the villa included a dedicated training room with equipment.
Yun Yingzhi quickened his pace. On the way, he bumped into seniors and juniors who greeted him warmly. He gave brief responses and hurried on. He arrived at the sophomore villa and pressed the doorbell.
After about a minute, a student in pajamas opened the door—another sophomore elite student. Seeing Yun Yingzhi, he immediately and enthusiastically pulled him into the first-floor hall by the wrist.
Yun Yingzhi didn’t actually like coming here, mostly because Huai Boshe’s roommates were too enthusiastic. The student sat him down on the sofa while holding his hand.
He didn’t know how the others got the word, but within a minute, other students came running out of their rooms. Some even leaped down from the second or third floors to the hall to greet him with smiles.
Yun Yingzhi’s eyelid twitched as he politely greeted these students whose Second Forms were all fierce beasts. Then he asked the key question: “I’m looking for Boshe.” He was always here for Boshe. “Can you call him for me?” As he spoke, he tried to pull his hand back. It took a second attempt with more force to finally reclaim his hand.
One student said, “Boshe just went out.”
Another handed him a cup of water. “Yingzhi, have some tea.”
Yun Yingzhi took it, thanked him, and asked, “Do you know where he went?”
“Not sure. He’ll probably be back in a bit.”
“Yingzhi, come on, I wanted to show you my evolved Second Form. Let’s go to the underground training hall.”
“No, ignore his form. Yingzhi, have you eaten?”
Yun Yingzhi’s lip curled. This was exactly why he felt so pressured coming here—everyone was too friendly. He hurriedly said, “I’m a bit busy,” and dashed out.
The students tried to keep him there, but he resolutely refused.
Once out of the villa, he decided to call Huai Boshe to ask where he was. He wanted to see him now. Unfortunately, the call didn’t go through. He sent a private message, but it remained unread.
Yun Yingzhi frowned. Where did he go? Not in the dorm, not answering calls…
Suddenly, a realization hit him. Huai Boshe had always been overly focused on Yun Yingyao.
Yun Yingzhi: “…”
No way. Huai Boshe wouldn’t have gone to find Yun Yingyao, right?
His fists tightened. He quickened his pace toward the freshman dorms. Like Huai Boshe, Yun Yingyao lived in the villa area as a top student. He found her dorm quickly.
Compared to Huai Boshe’s roommates, the freshmen were more restrained around their senior. A sweet-looking girl said, “Senior Yingzhi.”
Being called “Senior” by an elite class freshman made Yun Yingzhi feel a bit happy. He thought his sister’s roommates were all kind and sweet-talkers.
“Senior Huai did come to find Yingyao. They just went out together.”
Another student added, “Senior Huai seemed to have something to tell her. They probably went to the back woods.”
Yun Yingzhi thanked them and ran toward the woods.
The “Back Woods” was a forested area behind the dorms, often called the “Love Grove” by students. There were rumors that some students even did… unspeakable things there.
Half a year ago, Huai Boshe had suddenly called him to meet there. He felt Huai Boshe’s state was off—his eyes were slightly red. Yun Yingzhi had dropped everything to find him. As childhood friends, even though he didn’t know what happened, he wanted to comfort him.
Back then, Yun Yingzhi was naive about love. Even though he was constantly confessed to, he treated love like a game of “playing house.” At least, until Huai Boshe confessed.
That day, he found Huai Boshe at the coordinates given. He had immediately given him a big hug, burying his head in Boshe’s shoulder. Yun Yingzhi didn’t know what was wrong, so he just patted his back and asked, “Boshe, what’s wrong? What happened?”
“Yingzhi, I like you,” Huai Boshe had said.
Yun Yingzhi was shocked. He never expected Huai Boshe to confess. His first instinct was to refuse, but seeing Boshe’s emotional state, he decided to wait until he was stable.
Huai Boshe said, “Yingzhi, let’s date.”
Huai Boshe saw no response, so he pulled back slightly to look him in the eye. Yun Yingzhi saw his eyes were even redder now and his heart softened.
He had hesitantly said, “…Okay.”
Since then, they had been a couple for over half a year, kept secret at Boshe’s request. Yun Yingzhi now recalled that day. Why was Boshe so upset? He instinctively thought of Yun Yingyao.
It shouldn’t be her, right? She was still in the High School Division then…
Wait. He suddenly remembered that during that time, the High School students had done a group visit to the University Division, and Huai Boshe, as the freshman valedictorian, was in charge of looking after them.
Yun Yingzhi’s brow furrowed. Before he knew it, he had reached the spot where the confession had happened.
A familiar voice reached his ears. It was Huai Boshe.
“Yao Yao, congratulations on being selected. To be in the Ranking War as a freshman is amazing.”
“Thank you,” came Yun Yingyao’s voice.
Combat department students had much higher perception than normal people. To avoid being detected, Yun Yingzhi shifted into his Second Form—a snow-white little rabbit about 30cm long. He hid in the shadows of a tree and continued eavesdropping.
He didn’t know that on the branch directly above him lay a young man in a Fense Academy senior uniform. The man was exceptionally handsome with short white hair and violet eyes. He narrowed his eyes, looking down at the soft, fluff-poofing white rabbit, then toward the pair.
Nearby.
Huai Boshe: “…Half a year ago, it was also right here that I confessed to you.”
Yun Yingzhi was stunned. So, half a year ago, right after he confessed to Yun Yingyao and got rejected, he confessed to me?
The roommates’ theory was true.
Yun Yingyao: “Brother Boshe…”
Huai Boshe: “Yao Yao, you rejected me here half a year ago saying studies were the priority. What about now?”
“I’m sorry, Brother Boshe. I don’t like you.” She paused. “Besides, you and Zhi Zhi… Brother Boshe, doing this will make things very difficult for Zhi Zhi.”
“I don’t like Yingzhi,” Huai Boshe said.
Yun Yingyao: “But Brother Boshe, I also don’t like you.”
The atmosphere became heavy.
Yun Yingzhi was so angry he hopped in place. He tried to hold it in, but couldn’t. Tears started pitter-pattering down. He was so mad! He wanted to duel Huai Boshe, but he couldn’t. Boshe’s Second Form was a Giant Tiger; his was a bunny. The gap was too big.
He couldn’t duel, but he really wanted to slap Boshe several times and argue it out. But not now. He couldn’t control his emotions, and having a messy breakup talk in front of his sister was too embarrassing.
He hopped angrily a few more times, retreated to a distance where they wouldn’t notice, and shifted back to human form. Sensing something, he looked up but saw nothing. He looked around suspiciously, saw no one, and opened his terminal.
Almost the moment he looked away, a figure flickered into existence on the branch above, violet eyes watching him.
Yun Yingzhi, completely unaware, messaged Huai Boshe: Where are you?
Maybe Boshe was still busy pestering Yao Yao; he didn’t reply. Yun Yingzhi wiped his eyes and tried a video call, but changed it to voice at the last second considering his messy face.
Huai Boshe hung up.
Yun Yingzhi was furious. Then he got a message.
Huai Boshe: Yingzhi, sorry, I’m busy right now. Let’s talk tomorrow?
Yun Yingzhi sent back a question mark: Busy with what?
Huai Boshe: Yingzhi, something bad happened today. Can we not talk right now?
The “bad thing” must be being rejected by Yao Yao again, Yingzhi thought.
Yun Yingzhi: I want to see you. I have something to say.
He wanted to ask Boshe what he thought of him. They grew up together; if this was how he felt, he shouldn’t have confessed. Did he not value their friendship at all? He wanted to say: Trash! Stinking idiot! Get lost! Let’s break up!
Huai Boshe: Yingzhi, I’m really annoyed right now. Don’t you start annoying me too, okay?
Yun Yingzhi: Oh. Yun Yingzhi: Fine. Yun Yingzhi: Let’s leave it at that then.
The more he thought, the madder he got. He couldn’t hold back.
Yun Yingzhi: Trash! Yun Yingzhi: Stinking idiot! Yun Yingzhi: Let’s break up!
