Chapter 11: Jumping Out the Window to Escape
Elvis held Yun Yingzhi with one hand while the other reached directly through the wall of lightning arcs to close the window. With a crisp click, he locked it tight.
Yun Yingzhi’s long ears drooped, and his little rabbit face pulled into a pout of utter despair. His entire being radiated an aura of having lost all hope in life.
Elvis looked down at the little white rabbit in his arms. It didn’t move an inch, looking as if it had completely given up on any thoughts of the future. He carried Yun Yingzhi out of the bathroom, lay down on the bed, and pulled up the covers.
At that moment, Yun Yingzhi was resting on Elvis’s chest. When the duvet was pulled over them, it completely covered his tiny body. Feeling uncomfortable, Yun Yingzhi immediately began treading on Elvis’s body, moving upward…
Wait, how could he behave so recklessly on His Highness?
After taking two steps, Yun Yingzhi realized that this behavior was incredibly disrespectful to Elvis. He immediately scurried toward the left, trying to climb down. However, just as he got off Elvis, a large hand reached out and accurately pinched the little white rabbit by the back of its neck—the scruff of destiny.
Yun Yingzhi felt, once again, that his day was truly tragic.
Elvis placed Yun Yingzhi back onto his chest. Yun Yingzhi crouched there obediently for exactly one minute before he began restlessly crawling upward again. He discovered that Elvis actually let him crawl wherever he wanted. To test this theory, Yun Yingzhi crawled downward this time. Elvis did not stop him.
Yun Yingzhi thought for a moment and then began moving up and down, over and over again. Elvis still didn’t stop the little rabbit; he actually allowed it to dance back and forth on his body. Yun Yingzhi blinked his large eyes. He trotted up, down, left, and right across Elvis, trying to find his limit.
Hmph! He was so angry! He was going to have a one-rabbit rave on Elvis!
Elvis watched his chest with an expressionless face. As the little rabbit moved, a small lump shifted around under the covers, looking incredibly adorable. After about fifteen minutes, the small lump shifted toward Elvis’s right side. Finally, the little thing slid off his body.
Elvis accurately reached out again and put the rabbit back on his chest. After that, the little rabbit struggled a few more times. Seeing that he would be caught every single time, he finally stopped resisting. He curled up obediently against Elvis’s chest, listening to his heartbeat, and made no further attempts to jump off.
Elvis stared silently at the little lump that had been “dancing” under the covers until, eventually, he closed his eyes. Under the covers, Yun Yingzhi—who hadn’t slept well the previous night and had encountered a mountain of frustrating things today—was infected by the drowsy atmosphere and closed his eyes as well.
When Yun Yingzhi opened his eyes, he heard Elvis’s steady heartbeat. Elvis seemed… to still be asleep.
Yun Yingzhi’s eyes lit up. He moved his tiny body with extreme caution and slid down Elvis’s right side. Unlike before, Elvis was likely truly asleep, so he didn’t grab him and put him back on his chest.
Yun Yingzhi wondered: Does Elvis like animals this much? So much that he hugs them to his chest while he sleeps? Doesn’t he feel suffocated?
Yun Yingzhi wiggled under the covers until he finally poked his head out. He looked at Elvis with large, bright eyes. At this moment, Elvis’s white hair was slightly messy, and his eyes were closed. In the warm-toned room, he looked very gentle while asleep—a world away from the cold-air-radiating person he was when awake.
Fearful that Elvis might suddenly wake up, Yun Yingzhi suppressed the urge to throw a flurry of bunny punches at him. He stared at him cautiously for thirty seconds, kept his breathing low, and carefully climbed down from the bed.
Once on the floor, he glanced around. A locked door, a locked window, and the door to the bathroom… which also seemed to be locked. To escape now, the most suitable way would be through the interior window.
Undoubtedly, with Yun Yingzhi’s current form, trying to open a window would definitely make quite a bit of noise. The most effective way would be to transform into his human form and open it carefully. It wasn’t that his rabbit paws weren’t flexible enough; it was simply that his Second Form possessed much more strength than his human form, which often led to accidental destruction and loud noises.
So, he had to become human. If Elvis woke up during the transformation, it would be extremely risky. However, Yun Yingzhi knew he couldn’t stay in his rabbit form forever. As long as he was fast enough, it should be fine.
He looked at Elvis. Elvis was still asleep. Yun Yingzhi stared for a few more seconds, then turned toward the window and tiptoed over.
Suddenly, Elvis moved on the bed, turning over so his face was directly facing the window. Yun Yingzhi’s fur practically stood on end from tension. He watched Elvis with a trembling heart. He didn’t know if it was an illusion, but his tiny paws felt a bit itchy—he really wanted to throw those bunny punches.
To his relief, Elvis only shifted; his breathing remained steady, showing no signs of waking up. Yun Yingzhi blinked. To be safe, he stared at Elvis for a full two minutes before turning back to the window.
His Second Form was too short to see anything. It didn’t matter; he just had to transform. With that thought, he looked at Elvis one last time. Good, still asleep.
Yun Yingzhi didn’t hesitate any longer. He shifted directly from his Second Form to his human form, his height instantly shooting up. He held his breath and opened the window with lightning speed. As a Source Weapon manufacturer, his hands were much more nimble than average, allowing him to keep the noise to an absolute minimum.
Almost the instant the window opened, he shifted back into his Second Form and leaped upward, landing silently on the one-meter-high windowsill. Compared to his human form, even though he was a “fragile” rabbit, his physical capabilities were better in his Second Form.
As he jumped out of the open window, he instinctively looked back. He didn’t know if it was his imagination, but he seemed to lock eyes with Elvis’s deep violet pupils.
Yun Yingzhi: “…”
?
His rabbit face was filled with shock. Then, remembering he was on the third floor, he quickly controlled his posture, sliding down the protruding parts of the wall before gradually making his way down. Finally, he successfully landed on the first floor.
Feeling the natural breeze outdoors, Yun Yingzhi suddenly felt that the world was beautiful. This is great!
Yun Yingzhi thought he would never complain about the trouble his human form caused him again because his Second Form seemed to cause just as much. Just as he thought this, a shadow loomed over me. Yun Yingzhi felt a surge of terror. Don’t tell me that rogue Prince found me already? No way, right?
He froze his little rabbit body, turned around, and looked up. Then, the little rabbit let out a sigh of relief, his whole body slumping onto the ground as if a heavy burden had been lifted.
The person he saw wasn’t Elvis, but the “love-brained” scum senior, Wei Yuanqing. Wei Yuanqing reached out, intending to pick him up. Yun Yingzhi’s eyelid twitched. He sat back up, trying to avoid the large hand, but failed. He was scooped up by Wei Yuanqing.
Yun Yingzhi’s rabbit face pulled into a pout. Was I possessed by a disaster demon today?
Wei Yuanqing lifted Yun Yingzhi up, meeting his large, dark eyes. Yun Yingzhi remembered what the others in the villa said—Wei Yuanqing understood the language of beasts—so he couldn’t speak.
Wei Yuanqing’s lips curved into a handsome, gentle, and incredibly approachable smile. “Little fellow, tell Big Brother, how is His Highness Elvis?”
Yun Yingzhi, who didn’t know the beast language, remained silent. However, that didn’t stop him from answering the question in his mind. He thought: His Highness Elvis seems to be a severe fluff-con who likes hugging rabbits to sleep.
Wei Yuanqing’s dark green eyes met the rabbit’s gem-like eyes. He added, “So, little thing, tell Big Brother, do you like His Highness Elvis, or do you like me?”
Yun Yingzhi: “…”
What kind of weird question is that? I don’t like either of you. Senior is a love-brained scumbag, and His Highness is a rogue who takes advantage of even a little bunny.
Clearly, Wei Yuanqing didn’t expect an answer. He asked a third question: “Little baby, do you have someone you like?”
Yun Yingzhi shivered. Wei Yuanqing’s address shifted from “little fellow” to “little baby,” and his tone was so ambiguous that it made Yun Yingzhi suspect he might be into interspecies romance. What kind of twisted hobby is that?
Then again, from what he knew, Wei Yuanqing liked both men and women—basically anything beautiful. If it was the love-brained Wei Yuanqing… Yun Yingzhi seriously considered that he might actually fall for a non-human.
The more he thought about it, the more terrifying Wei Yuanqing seemed. He didn’t know if it was an illusion, but for a split second, Wei Yuanqing’s aura felt very dangerous. But it was only for a moment; now he seemed incredibly gentle, with a very kind smile.
Wei Yuanqing asked again: “Little baby, do you have someone you like?”
Yun Yingzhi didn’t understand at all. Why was he asking this? Did he have someone he liked? His first thought was his brother; he liked his brother the most. In a non-familial sense, he should like Master Alvin and Huai Boshe.
Thinking of Huai Boshe, he stomped a tiny paw in anger. Unbeknownst to him, seeing this made Wei Yuanqing think the rabbit was incredibly cute, and his smile deepened.
Yun Yingzhi cursed in his heart: Trash Huai Boshe!
He didn’t want to deal with Wei Yuanqing anymore. He struggled in his hands, jumped down, and dashed away at top speed. To his relief, Wei Yuanqing didn’t chase him. As for Elvis… he probably hadn’t woken up yet, right?
After running a distance, Yun Yingzhi’s small body leaped several meters high, landing impressively on a top branch. He looked down cautiously and saw no one. Jumping down, he blinked his eyes guiltily and shifted back into his human form. Even if he encountered people hitting on him on the way back, it didn’t matter anymore.
However, before returning to the sophomore dorms, he circled around, trying to find the “best escape route” from Fense Academy that the students had mentioned. After a lap, he still couldn’t find the right spot. Instead, he was stopped by many enthusiastic classmates and had to flee in a panic.
On the way back, he heard several students talking. One of them said, “Wei Yuanqing is really amazing. A friend of mine was on a team with him once for a mission in the Danger Zone.”
Hearing that familiar name and thinking of those strange questions, Yun Yingzhi instinctively stopped. Know yourself and know your enemy to win a hundred battles. He had to remember these rumors.
The student continued, “Everyone knows that while some ability users can communicate with beasts, it’s never precise. But Wei Yuanqing can!”
“Because of him, my friend said they almost never had conflicts with fierce beasts during their mission.”
Yun Yingzhi thought that while Wei Yuanqing was love-brained, he had to admit he was very capable. In the next moment, he heard another student say, “My younger brother’s ability is beast communication, and he has a 2S-rank talent. Even so, he told me that precise communication with fierce beasts is almost impossible.”
“Wei Yuanqing’s talent is just too powerful.”
Another student whispered mysteriously, “No, you might not know this.” Under everyone’s curious gazes, the student paused. “There’s another theory. Wei Yuanqing’s talent isn’t actually beast communication. It’s… Mind Reading.”
The hearts of men, and the hearts of beasts.
Yun Yingzhi: “…”
Yun Yingzhi: “…………”
