Chapter 71: Try a More Fairytale Approach?
“Commander Li, the medical officer said there are no abnormalities in her body.”
“But she just won’t wake up.”
“The other Commanders speculate that Guide Chi Wanâs slumber might be related to that space-time rift.”
Amidst the subordinate’s report, Li Su walked steadily toward the medical pod inside the spaceship.
The pod doors slid open to both sides after facial recognition. Passing through the white corridor, he immediately saw the small person sleeping in the white hospital bed.
Her skin was even whiter than the bedding.
By her bedside, Qi Ye, dressed in deep gray combat gear, sat silently. Most of his face was hidden in the shadows, and his green eyes were half-closed, his emotions unreadable as he stared at the girl on the bed.
Not far behind him, Shi Ye was leaning against the table.
Shen Yu was standing with the medical officer, who was speaking in a low voice.
As Li Su entered, Qi Ye looked up at him but remained silent.
The mechanical door behind them opened again.
Cang Lin walked in.
Qi Ye finally looked over. His voice was cold and clear, hiding his displeasure:
“Are you all crowding in here to compete for the patient’s oxygen?”
Cang Lin simply strode in, and a notification appeared on his light-brain that the background system had increased the oxygen supply to this medical room.
He walked to the bedside. The girlâs silver hair was scattered across the bed. She was wearing a spotless white hospital gown, and her slender, porcelain-white neck looked so fragile it seemed it might break with a gentle touch.
Seeing five Commanders coming to visit a single Guide, each more handsome than the last, the romantic cells in the medical officer’s brain began to fire.
He took a step closer and offered a helpful suggestion:
“Gentlemen, since all the data on Guide Chi Wanâs body is perfectly normal and sheâs simply in a deep sleep…
Why don’t we try a more fairytale approach?”
Facing several intense stares, the medical officer put on a sweet smile:
“Why not try waking her up in the way a prince kisses a princess?”
…
The medical officer was kicked out of the room.
Several more hours passed, and night had fallen.
The small medical room, crowded with several large men, was truly cramped. However, none of them could drive the others away. After some discussion, they decided to take turns guarding her.
The lights were set to a protective mode, with the brightness only enough to see the general outlines of objects. The device that performed a full-body scan every ten minutes flickered with a faint blue light. The cool-toned shadows made the room feel even more icy.
Qi Ye suddenly felt unable to sit still.
He would wait until dawn.
If she still wasn’t awake, he would send her to Planet B-31, which had the best medical technology.
Just then, the girl on the bed had a reaction.
Her brow began to furrow, and her chin lifted slightly, as if she were suppressing some kind of pain.
Qi Ye stood up and urgently summoned the medical officer.
Several medical officers on the night shift arrived immediately to perform a full-body scan and check.
“No abnormalities. Sheâs likely having a nightmare, or her consciousness is in some pain.
This isn’t something that can be solved manually. We have no way to help, Commander Qi.”
The medical officer who had suggested the kiss earlier smiled sweetly again:
“How about trying a more fairytale approach? Maybe try singing a nursery rhyme to coax her?”
“…”
After the medical officers left, Qi Ye sat back down.
He gently took Chi Wanâs hand. The pale green energy on his body was like a gentle snake, crawling bit by bit from her fingertips to the back of her hand and sinking into her body.
He tried to use his energy to soothe her, but the girlâs furrowed brow showed that it was completely useless.
It felt as though countless needles were pricking his heart, causing a dense, pulling ache. Qi Ye simply tightened his grip on the small hand in his palm.
“Chi Wan, wake up.”
His voice was lighter than a feather, yet it held a trace of powerlessness.
His heart was in turmoil; he couldn’t even sit still.
He leaned over slightly, taking a tissue from the table to dab away the thin layer of sweat on her forehead bit by bit.
When she showed signs of pain once more, his movements paused slightly.
Like a drowning man seeking a final lifeline, he stood up with the intention of giving it a try.
Then, he tenderly leaned over and kissed her on the brow.
The kiss was extremely light, filled with devotion and respect, without a hint of desecration.
After he pulled back, he met a pair of open, blue-purple eyes.
Qi Yeâs heart skipped a beat.
In the next second, Chi Wan started crying.
She cried heartbreakingly, as if she had lost something precious.
Qi Ye was instantly flustered. A man who was usually unshakeable now had his hand frozen in mid-air, not knowing where to put it.
“Iâm sorry, I…”
Did a kiss on the forehead make her this sad?
Chi Wan continued to sob, her crying so intense she was almost gasping for air.
The room lights brightened as Shen Yu was the first to rush in.
“Qi Ye! What did you do to her?!”
Qi Ye pressed his brow, remaining silent.
Shi Ye and Cang Lin walked in one after another.
Chi Wan just cried, completely oblivious to what these men in the small hospital room were saying or doing.
Her mind was filled with the memory of the moment her soul was being torn awayâthe System had used its own soul to trade for hers, staying behind in that space-time rift in her place.
She still remembered its final shout to her:
[Host, Iâll stay here forever for you!]
[Everyone says Iâm trash, but Iâm going to prove Iâm not!]
[Iâm not a coward!]
[I can also protect my beloved Host!]
Then, her soul had successfully returned to its place.
She had only suffered some trauma, which was why she had been unconscious until now.
As she cried, Chi Wan frantically called out for the System in her mind.
There was no response.
Her System was gone. That low-level little system that so many looked down uponâher most trusted partnerâwas now gone.
