Sentinel & Guide: From Pariah to Heartthrob Chapter 73

Chapter 73: Natural Enemies: Snake and Hawk

The next day.

“Various data points show that Guide Chi Wan’s physical statistics are indeed fine.”

The moment the medical officer finished speaking, Chi Wan couldn’t wait to swing her knife twice to demonstrate her healthy physique.

Qi Ye, leaning against the mechanical door, merely shook his head:

“No. Rest well for two days.”

Seeing that he was being so uncooperative, Chi Wan’s small face slumped. She silently opened her light-brain, preparing to cancel the Designated partner status.

Before her fingertip could touch the screen, it was gently hooked by a snake tail.

A shadow loomed over her. Qi Ye’s faint smile held a trace of helplessness and compromise:

“Fine. But you aren’t allowed to run around recklessly during battle.”

As he spoke, he picked up his equipped firearm and weapons from the table and tucked them back into his waist belt:

“Hei Mi will help equip you with brand-new gear. Wait for me obediently below the spaceship; I have some things to attend to.”

His gentle voice was like water, making one’s heart itch.

The medical officer was left staring in a daze.

When Commander Qi starts ‘peacocking,’ he’s practically a different person compared to his usual self!

The white corridor was as sacred as snow, yet at the end of it, a dark and windowless room exuded a gloomy, deathly silence.

A faint red light twisted and reflected along with the crystal turning between long fingers, sweeping over the man’s bony frame. Eyes so dark their emotions were unreadable stared fixedly at the crystal, turning slightly upon hearing the footsteps behind him.

Pei Yuan’s leisurely, lazy voice carried a light laugh:

“That you would actually come to see me… how rare.”

Since arriving on Planet A-73, the two had rarely had any interactions.

The most “intimate” time was likely when Qi Ye had given him a beating for Chi Wan’s sake.

The lights in the room brightened slightly.

Yet this light also seemed a bit more ghastly than the stark white of other rooms, making Qi Ye’s cold expression beneath his gray hair seem even more frigid.

The chill, saturated with the aura of a snake, was heavy.

The keen hawk immediately captured the murderous intent of its natural enemy, almost unable to restrain the urge to spread its wings and hunt.

In contrast to the restlessness of his Spirit Body, Pei Yuan’s slender frame was exceptionally leisurely.

He didn’t even turn around. Placing the crystal steadily into the crystal-cutting instrument, his smile remained:

“It seems you’re here for her.”

After speaking, he stood up and turned to look at Qi Ye:

“What? Was the beating last time not enough to satisfy you?”

Although his tone was smiling, his words gradually carried a hint of sullenness.

Qi Ye stepped forward, standing side-by-side with him.

The extremely incompatible atmospheres between the two grew even more volatile as the distance between them closed.

The red light flickered. Under his green eyes, everything on the crystal instrument table was clearly visible.

Qi Ye spoke: “Pei Yuan, I know you are extremely arrogant and look down on the entire Federation.”

As he spoke, he looked at him. His green eyes faintly showed the patterns of a snake’s pupils, his voice chilling:

“When a hawk flies too high for too long, it can develop an unclear perception of its own status.”

This statement was highly provocative. Pei Yuan, however, suddenly burst out laughing.

His voice had always been a bit bewitching. Now, he gave a low, muffled laugh, as if he had heard the world’s greatest joke.

After laughing for a moment, his smile vanished instantly. He tilted his head back to meet Qi Ye’s gaze:

“Is Commander Qi… teaching me how to be a person?”

Although the murderous intent in those green eyes flashed quickly, it was still caught by the keen hawk. Pei Yuan withdrew his smile, his face darkening with hostility.

The air pressure between the two reached a breaking point. Their energy and mental power seemed to be rioting violently. The crystals on the instrument vibrated slightly, making a rapid clashing sound.

The air was incredibly volatile.

Qi Ye took another step closer. His snake-like pupils, cold to the extreme, revealed his full killing intent under the red light:

“From now on, never appear in Chi Wan’s sight again. Otherwise, I will show you just how unclear your perception of yourself truly is.”

Hearing this, the man who had been hostile earlier instead pulled back his aggression, raising an eyebrow in surprise:

“There’s such a good thing?”

He spread his palms. “That suits me perfectly.”

“Please go back and tell her to stay away from me as well. Seeing her would probably ruin my mood for the entire day.”

Qi Ye was unwilling to waste another word on him:

“Just remember what I said today. Don’t let me see you appear before her even once.”

He started to leave, but Pei Yuan’s leisurely voice rang out again:

“I’m curious. Why did you suddenly come to tell me this?”

Qi Ye’s footsteps paused, his last shred of patience exhausted:

“In the space-time rift, she didn’t have a single injury on her body, yet she was plagued by nightmares and was unconscious for an entire day.”

Except for combat-type rifts composed of Polluted Entities, space-time rifts only consisted of illusion-types. Illusions primarily attack a person’s mind, causing them to recall or relive their most painful memories.

The pearl of the Chi family had lived a smooth life. The only thing that could make her this pained could only be that time she almost lost her life in the slime swamp.

Pei Yuan understood.

He lowered his eyes, the smile on his lips carrying a bit of sarcasm:

“I’m too lazy to think about whether she’s a different person or if she’s turned over a new leaf. Mentioning someone who has been declared ‘dead’ to me is just bad luck.

Please don’t come bothering me about her again in the future. The compensation has already been given to Chi Yuzhou. Are three crystals not enough for her to find a psychological counselor?”

Qi Ye lowered his head and rolled up his sleeves unhurriedly, his voice calm:

“You’re right. I’ve also changed my mind.”

In the next second, a fist carrying silver snake patterns slammed hard into the side of Pei Yuan’s face.
