Chapter 100: A Sneaky Figure
Lin Huaizhi took Huo Chen shopping until ten at night. Almost all the furniture was replaced with new ones, and even daily necessities like towels, toothbrushes, and cups were changed to couple sets.
And so began their unabashed life of living together.
Winter in Long City was very cold.
After barely a week of living together, Long City had its first snow of the year.
Lin Huaizhi actually became a bit more relaxed as the end of the year approached. After all, besides Chu Xiaoran, he hadn’t helped promote any other movies.
And the historical drama that Huai Meng had mainly produced had already finished airing before the year’s end. The reputation was excellent, with unanimous praise online. Everyone said it restored history very well and was urging for a second season to be filmed quickly.
As for the movies for the New Year season, Huai Meng only made one each year. This year, an old director had come out of retirement to film a martial arts suspense drama. The promotion was handled by the director and the actors together; it had nothing to do with him, the big boss behind the scenes.
Even if there were some matters, Zhou Ning was helping to handle them, so Lin Huaizhi became idle.
But Huo Chen was very busy.
Having left the Huo Group, Huo Chen was still Huo Chen. His abilities were still there. Perhaps he had a sense of it early on; even when Huo Chen was so busy at the Huo Group that his feet barely touched the ground, he had still started a company of his own.
A game company called Freedom.
Five years ago, an Otome game had become a massive hit, making the boss behind it filthy rich. Later, this company called Freedom also successively developed several new games.
There were mobile games as well as PC games.
Last year, they had even made a hit martial arts 3A masterpiece. Although its achievements couldn’t match Black Myth: Wukong, it was still very well-known.
Lin Huaizhi had actually heard a bit about this company, but what he hadn’t expected was that the boss of this company was actually Huo Chen.
Huo Chen didn’t hide it from him either.
The company didn’t just research and develop games; it also dealt in technology. Nowadays, national modernization relied on technological modernization as a support. The great era of technological development had already arrived, and the goal was to achieve a technologically strong nation in the future.
Freedom was currently researching and developing chips, and currently had collaborations with some domestic and foreign electronic industries.
Lin Huaizhi sighed at Huo Chen’s sharpness and strength.
Chip design was not only the core of the semiconductor industry, but also the engine driving the development of the entire digital economy. It could make mobile phones smarter and faster, and also provide the “brains” for autonomous driving cars. Independent innovation in chips was also something the country attached great importance to.
Although the Huo Group was a top ten enterprise in the world, it was still walking the old path these years, and was still very weak in the aspect of technology.
Now that Huo Chen had set up his own business, it remained to be seen whether the new leadership of the Huo Group could have Huo Chen’s strength and boldness. Otherwise, the Huo Group would fall sooner or later.
In contrast, Freedom had unlimited potential.
There could be many Huo Groups, but there was only one Huo Chen.
This wasn’t Huo Chen being arrogant.
It was a fact.
At the end of the year, when one needed to maintain relationships and there were many dinners, Lin Huaizhi wouldn’t drag Huo Chen back.
Oh, you ask why he wasn’t “maintaining relationships”?
Naturally, because he had already done everything that needed to be done in advance, and the rest was naturally for Zhou Ning to practice with.
As for him…
He was naturally busy preparing for the New Year.
After coming to Long City, Lin Huaizhi had always spent the New Year alone. Huo Chen would be at home, but he generally only went home for New Year’s Eve dinner and then went back to continue dealing with work.
This year, Huo Chen had a fallout with his family and didn’t want to—nor would he—go back to the Huo family ancestral home. So, after seeking Lin Huaizhi’s consent, he decided to spend the New Year with him.
This was the first New Year the young couple would spend together.
Because Huo Chen was so busy his feet barely touched the ground, Lin Huaizhi took over all the work of preparing for the New Year.
He also bought decorations.
It was just that “being busy for the New Year” was no fun to do alone. He bought the New Year goods, but he wanted to do things like putting up window flowers with Huo Chen. This year didn’t have a thirtieth (referring to the Lunar calendar date), so Huo Chen promised him that he would definitely finish his work by the twenty-sixth of the twelfth lunar month and set aside two days to do things like decorating the house with him.
Huo Chen was as good as his word.
In the villa, Huo Chen was holding a telescopic ladder, while Lin Huaizhi was standing on the ladder sticking up “Fu” (Fortune) characters.
Both had smiles on their faces.
“Is here okay? Is it crooked?”
Huo Chen looked at that upside-down “Fu” character and said, “A bit more to the right.”
Lin Huaizhi did as he said, and the character was finally stuck on properly. He was just about to come down the ladder when his gaze swept across the tall trees outside the villa area as he looked up.
A figure flashed by.
It hid behind a tree.
Lin Huaizhi frowned, feeling somehow inexplicably uneasy.
Seeing him looking out the window, Huo Chen couldn’t help but ask: “What is it?”
Lin Huaizhi retracted his gaze and flashed a smile at Huo Chen: “Nothing. I thought I saw a bird.”
