Popular Guide: S-Class Sentinels All Want to Monopolize Me Chapter 78

Chapter 78: Attacking the Camp

Su Tang frowned and wrapped her spirit power around Xiao Yu. As the spirit power seeped in bit by bit, the resistance grew stronger. She intensified her power to counter it.

Footsteps sounded outside the tent, and the curtain was lifted. Zhan Ye walked in.

As Su Tang’s exclusive Sentinel, he was meant to stay in the same tent as her. He had just gone to the Vice-Captain to get two tubes of soothing agent. Returning to see Su Tang feeding spirit power to Xiao Yu, he arched an eyebrow.

“What’s wrong with this little guy?”

“It seems to be affected by some energy.”

Su Tang frowned and voiced her guess.

“It might have stayed in the Abyss too long today, and the pollution in the environment eroded it.”

Her finger brushed over the collar around Xiao Yu’s neck, where the faint white light flickered.

“Ya Suo’s spirit power seems to be trying to soothe it, but it looks a bit strained.”

Zhan Ye frowned, instinctively connecting Xiao Yu’s current abnormality with the test results from the day. His expression grew more serious as he thought about it.

He walked to the corner, took a large handful of ores from Su Tang’s backpack, and placed them on Xiao Yu’s belly.

“If you have the strength, absorb it yourself. Don’t be a cat that can only rely on others for rescue.”

Su Tang gave Zhan Ye a glare. He was acting so high and mighty now—who was the one who begged her to purify him before? If he was so capable, he should have relied on himself back then too, instead of letting her save him.

A grown man, saying such things to a cat.

She manipulated her spirit power, going deeper and dispersing that force little by little.

Gradually, Xiao Yu in her arms stabilized, and the white light in the collar stopped flashing.

“Meow~”

Finally hearing this meow, Su Tang felt a bit more at ease.

“If you’re tired, sleep. You can absorb these ores tomorrow just the same.”

Su Tang placed the kitten on a simple makeshift cot. Zhan Ye glanced at the sleeping black cat and snorted.

“At least it’s sensible enough not to cause you too much trouble.”

Though he said that, the worry in his eyes had faded slightly.

It was good that this troublesome little guy was okay; otherwise, he was really afraid that Ya Suo, back in the White Tower, might drop dead on the spot. Come to think of it, if the White Tower lost that cat, it would be quite boring.

The camp late at night was exceptionally quiet, with only the occasional sound of a patrolling Sentinel’s footsteps.

Su Tang huddled on her cot, wrapped in her sleeping bag like a zongzi. Holding the warm little black cat, she didn’t feel the cold too much, but waves of chill from her feet and lower body made it difficult to sleep.

There were two cots in the tent; she and Zhan Ye each had one, separated by half a meter. The light used for illumination outside seeped in, and she could vaguely see the outline of him on his bed.

Zhan Ye wasn’t using a thermal sleeping bag; he only had a not-so-thick quilt. Tsk, the constitution of a Sentinel is truly enviable…

Su Tang sighed and closed her eyes, counting sheep in her mind. Suddenly, a rustling sound came from within the tent. She squinted and saw Zhan Ye actually pushing his cot toward her until the two beds were perfectly joined.

Then she watched as he lay back down. A presence that couldn’t be ignored came from behind her, and Su Tang’s back stiffened.

“You… what are you doing?”

“Mmm, the night is long. Little Beauty glanced at me just now—didn’t you want me to help warm your bed?”

Su Tang’s cheeks flushed as she whispered back:

“Stop talking nonsense.”

Were a Sentinel’s five senses really that sharp? Could he feel her even when she just stole a glance?

“Pfft,” Zhan Ye chuckled lowly. “Jiejie is truly something—how can such a soft little mouth say such harsh words?”

Zhan Ye turned on his side and reached out, pulling Su Tang and the black cat in her arms into his embrace.

Enveloped in his arms, Su Tang’s body stiffened at first but quickly relaxed.

Zhan Ye’s embrace was broad and warm, carrying the characteristic scorching body temperature of a Sentinel. Even through the sleeping bag, she could feel that burning heat. Well, it was actually quite comfortable in this environment.

“Sleep. We don’t know what the situation will be tomorrow. I’ll let you off tonight.”

“It’s much warmer with me holding you, isn’t it? Get some rest tonight; I’ll act as your human hand-warmer.”

Su Tang rarely didn’t voice a refusal. After all, once you’ve experienced warmth, who would want to sleep in the cold? Besides, they were just hugging through a sleeping bag. They had already done more intimate things; did this even matter?

Xiao Yu moved in her arms, burrowing toward her heart. It seemed highly satisfied with this large heat source as well, and soon a faint purr came from its throat.

Su Tang closed her eyes and unconsciously fell into a dream.

When she woke again, it was slightly light outside.

Zhan Ye had long been awake. He had covered Su Tang with his quilt and was sitting by his bed wiping his dagger. The morning light outlined his sharp facial features, and the way he spun the dagger between his fingers had a touch of casual roguishness.

Seeing her open her eyes, he arched an eyebrow and smiled.

“Awake? It seems Little Beauty rested well last night. Mo Xiao and the others are outside gearing up.”

Su Tang sat up and found the two beds were still pushed together.

“Why didn’t you move the bed back?”

“Why move it back?”

Zhan Ye put away his dagger. As he stood up, he deliberately bumped against the edge of her bed.

“If I move it back, won’t I just have to move it again tonight?”

He casually tossed a nutrient solution over.

“Eat quickly. Once you’re done, come see them off.”

Su Tang put the nutrient solution in her pocket and walked out.

In the camp, the Sentinels were making their final preparations.

Mo Xiao finished checking his equipment and saw Zhan Ye and Su Tang coming out together.

“I’m leaving the base to you. If we haven’t sent a message back in an hour, take Su Tang and retreat immediately.”

“Rest assured.”

Zhan Ye leaned to one side with his hands in his pockets, his gaze sweeping over the Third Squad and nodding slightly to the Vice-Captain.

“Be careful.”

For some reason, Su Tang felt an enduring unease in her heart.

Mo Xiao gave Su Tang one last look, his eyes filled with reluctance and longing. Finally, all emotions were replaced by determination as he waved his hand to signal the departure.

The sound of footsteps gradually faded, and the camp instantly became quiet.

Zhan Ye commanded the three remaining Sentinels to patrol, while he moved a chair to sit by the communication console.

“Stay sharp. Report immediately if you find anything wrong.”

Time passed slowly, and the camp remained peaceful without a single ripple.

“How much longer until the hour is up?”

Su Tang couldn’t help but worry.

Zhan Ye looked at his wristband.

“Fifteen minutes left.”

It was unlike Mo Xiao’s style for so much time to pass without a single word.

As soon as Zhan Ye finished speaking, Xiao Yu in Su Tang’s arms suddenly bristled. Its emerald eyes stared fixedly outside the tent as it let out a sharp hiss!

Almost simultaneously, a piercing alarm blared from the control console.

The face of the Sentinel on duty changed drastically.

“Captain Zhan! A large number of high-level pollutants have suddenly appeared outside the light membrane!”

“Fuck!”
