Chapter 78: Let Everything Return to the Start
Back in his room, Ye Zhile looked at the two names in the signature section. While he felt a sense of relief, a massive wave of sorrow also rose in his heart. He hadn’t expected his marriage to end this way, without even a shred of dignity left.
When Xiao Yuanqing arrived, he saw Ye Zhile with a face full of tear tracks, eyes red and swollen, and the blood on his neck already dried. Although the wound wasn’t severe, seeing Ye Zhile in this state was still shocking.
Xiao Yuanqing briefly treated the wound and instructed, “Don’t let it touch water for these few days. Change the dressing every day. It should be fine in a week.”
“Okay,” Ye Zhile nodded. “Thank you, Brother Yuanqing. Sorry to trouble you.”
The youth was extremely tired, not even able to muster a smile. Xiao Yuanqing patted his head and gave a light laugh. “What trouble? Don’t do such a foolish thing again. If the knife had slipped, you’d be lying down right now.”
“I know…” Ye Zhile responded. “I won’t do it again.”
“Good,” Xiao Yuanqing asked him. “So, what do you plan to do next?”
Ye Zhile thought for a moment. “I want to take Dudu to my maternal grandmother’s hometown. The scenery there is very nice. Once my health is better, I’ll come back for classes.”
Xiao Yuanqing understood and sighed. “Shuohan let you down…”
Ye Zhile remained silent.
After signing the divorce agreement, Ye Zhile began packing his luggage. He didn’t actually have much to take with him. Ji Shuohan had never given him anything anyway…
It was laughable when he thought about it. Aside from that marriage certificate and the divorce agreement, there was nothing between them that served as a bond. Not even Dudu, as Ji Shuohan’s gaze rarely lingered on the child.
The servants helped Ye Zhile load his luggage into the car. Finally, Ye Zhile held Dudu and waved the child’s small hand to say goodbye to Uncle Xu, Xiao Ru, and the others at the Leader’s Estate. His face still lacked color, but one could feel his happiness and sense of release.
“Is Madam leaving just like that?” Xiao Ru’s tone was full of reluctance.
Ye Zhile smiled. “You don’t need to call me Madam anymore. If there’s time in the future, we can meet up.”
“Alright then, I wish you a safe journey,” Xiao Ru offered her sincere blessings.
“Thank you,” Ye Zhile nodded. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a tall figure. He didn’t look back and left with Dudu.
His departure was decisive, without a hint of lingering attachment. Ji Shuohan felt quite bitter watching him. He walked down a few steps, watching the car drive away until it disappeared. He paused for a moment, then turned and went back inside.
The Leader’s Estate was gradually left behind. Ye Zhile held Dudu’s small hand and waved it toward the outside. “Dudu, say goodbye to Father.”
“Ah-oh…” Dudu waved his small hand, laughing happily at Ye Zhile. Ye Zhile lowered his head and kissed his cheek. “Good boy.”
Ye Zhile took Dudu home. Because he hadn’t announced it in advance, Wen Yumiao was surprised to see him.
“Lele.” Seeing Ye Zhile playing with Dudu, Wen Yumiao pulled him to the sofa and asked, “Tell Papa, what exactly happened?”
“I divorced Ji Shuohan,” Ye Zhile told him the truth. Wen Yumiao was stunned. “Divorced? How could you be divorced? Were you bullied? Hmm?”
Ye Zhile paused and looked at Wen Yumiao. “Oh, Papa, let’s just not ask about it, okay? Anyway, the divorce is done. From now on, we’ll each go our separate ways.”
“No. If you don’t give me an explanation, I’ll have your father demand an explanation from the Leader’s Department.” Wen Yumiao saw that even as summer approached, Ye Zhile was wearing a high-collared shirt. He reached out to adjust it, but Ye Zhile reacted strongly, quickly dodging. Wen Yumiao’s expression darkened as he forcibly pulled back the collar and saw the gauze on his neck. “What is this?”
“When we… got divorced, there was a bit of unpleasantness.” Fearing Wen Yumiao would be angry, Ye Zhile quickly explained, “But, but I did this myself! It has nothing to do with Ji Shuohan!”
Wen Yumiao didn’t respond. He made a call. Ye Zhile knew the call was to his father. He shrank back like a cowering quail, not daring to breathe loudly.
A moment later, it wasn’t just Ye Junting who returned, but also his eldest and second brothers. Ye Zhile felt even more intimidated, lowering his head under everyone’s gaze. He weakly raised a hand. “Listen to me first…”
Ye Zhijin sat down beside him, one arm draped over the back of the sofa behind Ye Zhile. Ye Zhile looked up. “It’s just… he lost his memory. I don’t like him, and he doesn’t like me… so we divorced.”
Ye Zhile kept it brief. “The wound on my neck happened when I asked for the divorce. Um… would you believe me if I said I scratched it myself?”
The others were silent, but their answers were written clearly on their faces.
“…” Ye Zhile lowered his head again. “Anyway, we’re divorced. It’s no big deal.”
“Ye Zhile.” Ye Zhijin suddenly called his name seriously. Ye Zhile sat up straight and heard his brother say, “Your story is full of holes. Who are you trying to fool? Your family knows your temper best.”
Ye Zhile was at a loss for words. “I… then… what else?”
Ye Zhile put on a defiant expression. “Anyway! You’re not allowed to go looking for trouble for him or the Leader’s Department because of this! When I brought up the divorce, I made it clear that our divorce wouldn’t affect the relationship between the Military and the Leader’s Department! I don’t care! You can’t make me lose face like that!”
Ye Zhile tried to use his own unreasonableness to gloss over the matter, but Ye Junting wasn’t buying it. He stood up to call the Leader’s Department. Ye Zhile lunged forward to hug him, and all his pretense of nonchalance and grievance collapsed in an instant. “Father!”
Ye Zhile cried out in frustration and pleaded, “Don’t go… don’t go, okay?”
“Lele…” Ye Junting held Ye Zhile in his arms. Ye Zhile buried his face in his chest. “I couldn’t stand the way he didn’t love me, so I divorced him.”
Ye Zhile looked up, his vision blurred by tears. “He didn’t love me before either… so we just went back to the start. Let’s just let each other go and act as if our marriage never existed. Let’s just let this matter pass, okay?”
“Let it pass? Then all the grievances you’ve suffered this past year were for nothing?” Ye Zhichen was indignant.
Ye Zhile said, “Those grievances… I, I don’t know. But I don’t want to be involved with him anymore. Father… I’m really tired.”
Ye Zhile broke down in tears. Wen Yumiao also fought back tears. He glanced at Ye Junting, then turned and went upstairs.
Ye Junting knew that since such a thing had happened to Ye Zhile, his partner would blame him. He held Ye Zhile and coaxed him, “Don’t cry. Father knows you’ve been wronged. It’s Father’s fault. I shouldn’t have let you marry in the first place.”
