Chapter 38: The Emperor is Far Away
During lunchtime, the assistant brought lunch to the CEO’s office.
Chi Yuheng finally managed to find some time to rest. He took the lunch and asked the assistant about the work schedule for the next two days.
The assistant checked. “Tomorrow, you’re going to the island with the CEO of the Xu Group to see if the amusement park project can be finalized. Thereâs no work scheduled for the day after, because you’ll likely be on the island for three days.”
Although the island wasn’t far from Jing City, staying for three days was considered a business trip.
Being away for three days, he had to tell the kid at home. Recently, Ye Ran had been a bit clingy toward him, wanting to sleep with him every night, just like when they were small.
If he weren’t home for a few days, would Ye Ran be afraid to sleep alone?
Chi Yuheng thought, if all else failed, he would just take Ye Ran with himâtreat it as taking him to relax and play.
The assistant stood opposite, waiting for the boss’s instructions, only to see their CEO hook his lips into a smile and take out his phone to send a message, not saying a word about whether to go or not for quite a while.
Chi Yuheng opened WeChat and clicked on Ye Ranâs avatar, only then remembering their conversation from the morningâYe Ran was going out to play with Xu Huiyang.
He didn’t say anything else to him. Chi Yuheng didn’t quite want to admit that his little young master didn’t really need him these past few days.
The assistant watched as his boss’s face went from a smile to a straight line in just a few seconds.
They say men are fickle. In the Chengyi Group, everyone knew there was no one more emotionally stable than Chi Yuheng, yet reality was slapping them in the face.
After all, one second Chi Yuhengâs face was written with “I am very happy,” and the next second it turned into “I am unhappy.”
Chi Yuheng scrolled a few more times, but there was still no message.
This kid was truly playing like crazy outside, not even telling him where he went.
As he was about to exit, Chi Yuheng clicked on Ye Ranâs Moments.
He saw the top post. The picture was of a boat on the sea, and he was all too familiar with that boat; he roughly knew where Ye Ran had gone.
Only the caption…
Chi Yuhengâs eyes narrowed slightly.
The assistant felt a trace of danger. He didn’t know what the boss had seenâwas he dissatisfied with tomorrowâs work arrangements?
Just as he was guessing that tomorrowâs work might be canceled, Chi Yuheng spoke, “Keep tomorrowâs work as scheduled. Adjust the subsequent work; I’ll be staying on the island for five days.”
It only required three days, but now Chi Yuheng was going for five. The assistant was slightly surprised; the workaholic President Chi was finally willing to give himself a vacation.
…
Once they reached the island, Ye Ran dragged his luggage off the boat, his other hand holding his phone as he scrolled through his Moments.
Chi Yuheng never posted on his Moments, and Ye Ran might have followed suit, rarely posting either.
Later, after he started playing games, Ye Ran would occasionally post a screenshot when his stats were exceptionally great. Usually, only two people would like it: Chi Yuheng and Xu Huiyang.
Chi Youchu would leave a comment like [Still a bit lacking compared to me] or [Still a noob].
After leaving a comment, he would always mysteriously receive a “Nudge” from his brother.
C nudged your brain and found it had water in it.
This left Chi Youchu with a chill all over. He thought it was just a coincidence that Chi Yuheng had accidentally touched his phone, but after he commented on Ye Ranâs Moments for the second time, he received another nudge.
C nudged your coffin lid and asked “Not dead yet?”
From then on, Chi Youchu never dared to comment again.
Later, perhaps Xu Huiyang found it boring to always look at Ye Ranâs stats, and the only person who consistently liked Ye Ranâs posts was Chi Yuheng.
Ye Ran had once wondered what was wrong with the Moments he posted; even though the likes were few to begin with, only Chi Yuheng remained in the end.
Later, he got used to it and treated it purely as posting for fun.
Only this time, the content he posted was different from usual.
Someone who hadn’t liked or commented actually sent him a private message.
[Chi Youchu]: Ye the Third, where did you go to play?
[It’s Ye Ran not Ye Ash]: To a place where you won’t be able to find me.
Ye Ran acted mysterious, and Chi Youchu rolled his eyes.
[Chi Youchu]: Don’t think I won’t be able to find you. Just wait until I go there and catch you tomorrow.
When Ye Ran was on the boat, he had checked the boat schedule; he remembered clearly that there were no trips tomorrow, meaning no boats could go to the island.
He didn’t believe Chi Youchu could fly to the island.
[It’s Ye Ran not Ye Ash]: Then I’ll wait for you~
The sightseeing car sent by the hotel had already reached the pier. There was a lone Maybach behind it, with the hotel manager waiting outside the car.
Other guests had already taken their things and boarded the sightseeing car. Quite a few people cast their gazes toward the Maybach, wondering what kind of person the hotel would send such a car to pick up.
Under everyoneâs curious eyes, Ye Ran and Xu Huiyang walked to the car with their luggage.
The driver immediately took over their luggage. The manager smiled and opened the car door for them. “The two young masters have finally arrived. President Xu has already instructed us; the rooms have been prepared for you.”
The two sat in the back of the Maybach. Ye Ran was still scrolling through his phone, while Xu Huiyang asked the manager in the passenger seat, “My brother didn’t come, right?”
The manager answered truthfully, “President Xu is busy and isn’t on the island.”
Xu Huiyang let out a sigh of relief. “That’s good, that’s good…”
Ye Ran didn’t even raise his eyes, his mocking voice coming out first. “Even if your brother were on the island, so what? Look at how scared you are.”
Xu Huiyang retorted, “If it were Chi Yuheng who came, wouldn’t you panic?”
Ye Ran raised an eyebrow and answered easily, “Whatâs there to panic about? Could he eat me?”
“Besides, never mind that President Chi is so busy he can’t come; even if he did, heâd play his part and Iâd play mine. How could he possibly get in my way?”
Xu Huiyang felt that he was just “standing while talking without back pain” (meaning it’s easy for him to say).
“The logic is sound, but being managed always feels restrictive. For example, if we want to drink after surfing, and we want it icedâwould Chi Yuheng let you?”
Xu Huiyang leaned his head against the car window. “Anyway, my brother wouldn’t.”
Chi Yuheng wouldn’t let him either.
But Ye Ran had nothing to worry about; the Emperor is far away.
As the saying goes, there are no boats tomorrow, so neither of the Chi brothers could fly over and suddenly descend upon him.
Ye Ran patted Xu Huiyangâs shoulder with an easy heart. “Isn’t your brother not here? You can just put your heart at ease.”
Xu Huiyang nodded.
However, as soon as the words left his mouth, the manager in the passenger seat spoke unhurriedly, “President Xu said for you two to play first; he’ll arrive tomorrow.”
Translator’s Note:
Standing while talking without back pain (çŤç說芹ä¸č °çź) is a Chinese idiom that means it’s easy to criticize or give advice when you’re not the one experiencing the difficulty.
