Chapter 39: Water Bed
“What did you say?!”
Xu Huiyangâs world collapsed.
So the time he could play freely was only one day.
No, not even a day; it was already noon, so he only had half a day left.
Ahhhhh!!!!
Destroy it all!
And Ye Ran captured another piece of important information from that sentence.
“Isn’t there no boat to the island tomorrow? How is President Xu coming up?”
When they came, Xu Huiyang had said that his brother couldn’t manage the boats; the boats belonged to the investment partner, and only that person had the say.
The manager still wore a respectful smile. “Because tomorrow our other boss, the partner of President Xu, will also be coming to the island. The boat follows his instructions.”
Ye Ran gave an “Oh,” indicating he understood.
Tomorrow was just an extra boat trip; it wasn’t a big deal.
Compared to Xu Huiyang, who had a long face, Ye Ran was in a great mood, with the kind of excitement that came from the “whip” not being able to reach him.
He looked out the window at the island, already thinking about how he was going to play in a bit.
Arriving at the front desk of the resort hotel, Ye Ran and Xu Huiyang received their room cards. Ye Ran had a luxury suite on the second floor, while Xu Huiyang liked rooms with “vibe,” so his was a seabed suite on the basement floor.
Ye Ran glanced at Xu Huiyangâs room card. It truly was a seabed suite; even the room card had flowing animated fish, with fluorescent fish swimming slowly under the light, and even the ripples from the fish tails were as clear as if they were truly rippling in the sea.
From the room card alone, Ye Ran could tell how luxurious this hotel truly was.
The two of them first went back to their respective rooms to put down their luggage, then agreed to meet at the restaurant on the first floor for lunch.
Ye Ran took the elevator to the second floor alone. The suites were concentrated in the East Wing of the second floor, while the West Wing had ordinary guest rooms. Ye Ran followed the signs in the hallway and found his room, then swiped his card to enter.
The moment he entered, his mouth nearly formed an “O” shape.
Besides being large, the most important thing about the suites in this hotel was the view; the most beautiful scenery on the island could be taken in from the room.
The most surprising part was the balcony outside; crossing the anti-corrosive wood steps, there was an infinity pool outside, and beyond the pool was the sea view, looking as if they were connected.
Ye Ran took a turn around the room and unexpectedly found that there was actually a water bed in the bedroom.
Holy crap, he really wanted to know who the interior designer of this hotel was; it was so creative.
His phone vibrated, and a message from Xu Huiyang came in.
[Xu Huiyang]: Have you finished packing? Let’s go to the restaurant.
Ye Ran hadn’t even eaten breakfast, so he was truly hungry now. He tossed his suitcase aside; he’d eat his fill first.
After replying to the message, Ye Ran headed straight for the restaurant on the first floor.
After meeting Xu Huiyang at the first-floor restaurant, Xu Huiyangâs mouth wouldn’t stop. “How’s your room?”
Before Ye Ran could speak, Xu Huiyang answered himself, “It should be pretty good too. Let me tell you about my roomâwhen I went in, the curtains were closed. I thought there was a secret behind the curtains, and there truly was a secret.”
“It’s like moving the underwater world into the room. In that room, I feel like I’m a fish; the immersion is too strong…”
Ye Ran was also amused by this metaphor. “Then what kind of fish are you?”
Xu Huiyang bared his teeth. “I must be a mermaid, standing out among a crowd of small fish.”
He even raised his eyebrows as he spoke.
Ye Ran patted his shoulder and sighed, “A clownfish can too.”
Xu Huiyangâs eyebrows furrowed. “You dare to say I’m ugly? Just wait until I finish eating; I’ll fight you for three hundred rounds…”
Xu Huiyang was gesturing wildly, and Ye Ran felt he wasn’t a clownfish, but an octopus.
As they spoke, Xu Huiyangâs gaze suddenly froze, looking right past Ye Ranâs shoulder toward the direction behind him.
The upturned corners of his mouth slowly retracted, his tone carrying a bit of surprise: “Senior Shen?”
Ye Ran turned around following his gaze and saw a boy wearing a sky-blue shirt standing not far from them in the restaurant.
The stray hairs on his forehead were slightly upturned by the wind, and a pair of thin-framed glasses rested on the bridge of his nose. The eyes behind the lenses were gentle and clean.
Hearing Xu Huiyangâs voice, he was startled for a moment, then the eyes behind the lenses curved, revealing a shallow but genuine smile as he walked over with light footsteps.
“What a coincidence. You guys came here for vacation too.”
The two nodded.
Shen Xie was one year ahead of Ye Ran and the others, but in a different department; he studied Fine Arts, while Ye Ran and the others studied Finance.
On the first day of freshman registration, Chi Yuheng was originally going to take Ye Ran to the school. After taking him outside the school, Peking University required students to enter the school by themselves and parents had to stay outside.
Chi Yuheng, who didn’t look old enough to be a parent but couldn’t blend in with the students either, naturally stayed outside. Ye Ran dragged his suitcase into the school, and the senior who picked him up was Shen Xie.
Later, Ye Ran and Xu Huiyang joined a club at school, and Shen Xie happened to be in the same club, so they became familiar over time.
Since they met, the three simply had a meal together.
Xu Huiyang scooped a spoonful of crab roe from a hairy crab into his mouth. “Senior, when did you arrive?”
Shen Xie ate a piece of green vegetable. “I arrived just yesterday. The scenery here is good, perfect for my sketches.”
Ye Ran directly took the hairy crab Xu Huiyang had prepared to eat, successfully earning a roll of the eyes from him.
“Senior, did you come by yourself?”
Shen Xie nodded. “What about you two?”
Thinking of tomorrow, Xu Huiyangâs eyebrows slumped. “It’s just the two of us today, but it won’t be tomorrow.”
Ye Ran spoke for Xu Huiyang, “His brother is coming tomorrow, so someone won’t have any space for freedom anymore.”
Xu Huiyang: “…”
Between brothers, you can always count on them to watch the fun without caring about the scale, and when disaster strikes, I’ll fly first, and when it’s time to take a knife for you, I’ll stick two in you first.
But it was fine. Xu Huiyang always believed in one thing: The Way of Heaven is a cycle; who has the heavens ever spared?
He didn’t know if changing the environment had changed his mood, but Ye Ran, who had posted to his Moments in the morning, wanted to post again now.
To put it nicely, it was for recording life, but the main purpose was to intentionally show it to Chi Youchuâto make him watch while he still couldn’t fly to the island.
Ye Ranâs way of doing things, in Xu Huiyangâs words, was “wicked to the core.”
Ye Ran casually took a few photos of the resort scenery outside the window and of the three of them eating. Without even looking after taking them, he posted them all with a simple two-word captionâHappy.
…
Once one becomes busy, they lose track of time. By the time Chi Yuheng finished his work, it was already past dinner time.
Returning home, Uncle Lin had someone reheat the dinner and bring it up. Chi Yuheng casually asked, “Has the little young master eaten dinner?”
Uncle Lin glanced at Xin Yu on the side, thinking to himself, Didn’t he tell the Eldest Young Master that Ye Ran isn’t home?
Xin Yu returned a look: Ye Ran told me before he left.
In the end, after their gazes met, it was still Xin Yu who spoke, “Young Master Ye went out to play with Young Master Xu this morning.”
Only then did Chi Yuheng remember; a slip of the mind made him always think Ye Ran was waiting for him at home.
“Mn, understood.”
After dinner, Chi Yuheng took out his phone; Ye Ran still hadn’t sent a single message.
The messages Chi Yuheng sent him weren’t replied to either.
He truly played until he forgot him.
He stepped upstairs, his fingertips skillfully clicking on Ye Ranâs Moments.
Translator’s Note:
The Way of Heaven is a cycle; who has the heavens ever spared? (夊é弽蟪ĺďźčźĺ¤ŠéĽé誰) is a dramatic way of saying “what goes around comes around.”
