Chapter 106: No Need to Keep Things That Don’t Belong to Me part 1
“What kind of meeting?”
“It’s scheduled at Shi Ye’s villa. I imagine it should be a healthy meeting.” Someone on the other end shouted, “Zhou Xie, get the water.” Zhou Xie paused, lowering his voice. “Don’t worry. After all, it’s at the school; nothing illegal will happen.”
Wen Rong was surprised by that shout of “Zhou Xie.” It seemed to be the voice of someone from the Student Council.
A strange feeling inexplicably rose in his heart.
Just because President Zhou had passed away, those people had completely changed their faces. It was like two different molds.
Just because he had no father.
Although the situations were different, Wen Rong inexplicably thought of himself, bullied constantly because he had no mom and dad.
“They disrespect you so much, why aren’t you angry?” Wen Rong couldn’t help asking.
“What?”
Wen Rong kicked the tree unhappily. “Although I didn’t dare resist those who bullied me in the past either, I don’t want to see you being bullied now.”
It made him feel like he had let down the kindness and help President Zhou had shown him at the airport.
A laugh came from the phone. “Isn’t that your style of doing things? Being kind to others and such.”
Rustle. Leaves drifted down in front of him.
Wen Rong replied, “What?”
Zhou Xie raised his voice. “Haven’t you always had issues with me? Since we have many things to collaborate on in the future, I should also learn your style and strive to make you like me, so you don’t run away behind my back again like before the Tennis Open.”
Learn from me?
Wen Rong scratched his head and fell into deep thought, not noticing that Zhou Xie was still talking on the phone, his tone becoming increasingly excited, posturing a bit for praise.
This call lasted nearly ten minutes before Wen Rong went to Shi Ye’s villa with Li Ao.
The sunshine was lovely, but the air carried the unpleasant smell of smoke and alcohol.
Wang Sichen’s arrival hadn’t made Lin Jinghang restrain himself; instead, he had moved the stage out to the lawn.
Scantily clad hot girls danced enthusiastically. Next to them, a boat filled with ice was stuck full of beer bottles. Within a few minutes, they were all taken, a bottle in every hand.
Zhou Xie was waiting for him and Li Ao at the door.
The sound system shook his head with pain. Wen Rong covered his ears and looked at Zhou Xie. “Why does Lin Jinghang dare to do this even when Wang Sichen is here?”
“Don’t be like a newcomer in the workplace thinking the junior manager will restrain himself when the senior executive arrives. In reality, the junior manager is just doing what the senior executive likes.”
Wen Rong understood Zhou Xie’s meaning. After thinking, he summarized, “So Wang Sichen loves privilege and lives a decadent life, exactly like Lin Jinghang.”
“Mn.”
“There is a theory that says as society develops, 80% of people will be marginalized.”
As they spoke, they happened to pass a table. Zhou Xie, mouth dry, was about to pick up a glass of wine to moisten his throat.
Another hand suddenly appeared in his field of vision. Zhou Xie blocked it instinctively. “You can’t drink.”
Wen Rong: “Huh?”
“This is alcohol, you can’t drink it.”
If he drank, his hands would wander, and sweet words would pour from his mouth. Zhou Xie could guarantee that if the Principal came, or even Wang Sichen, they wouldn’t be able to control themselves.
Wen Rong silently retracted his hand and stuffed it into his pocket. “I saw you taking it and thought it was a soft drink.”
“My mistake.”
Zhou Xie admitted his fault and retracted his own hand. “Continuing on, 80% of people will be marginalized, while the other 20% will control the majority of society’s wealth.”
“Mhm mhm.”
“Wang Sichen’s political philosophy is that this 20% belongs to the ‘quality population,’ whose intelligence, conduct, and capabilities are higher than that 80%. Every effort should be made to ensure the survival, continuation, and expansion of the quality population, so that one day in the future, the quality population will spread throughout society.”
Wen Rong narrowed his eyes. It was unclear if it was because the sun was scorching or because he felt uncomfortable.
Zhou Xie was sharp-eyed. “Do you disagree?”
“Ah? No…”
“Impossible.”
After being tortured by Wen Rong repeatedly, Zhou Xie had unexpectedly developed a keen sixth sense—the moment Wen Rong frowned, he was definitely holding back something bad.
Zhou Xie: “I know you disagree with this statement, and perhaps you even think this philosophy has no scientific basis and is stupid.”
Wen Rong hesitated, then finally nodded. “Mn.”
“You aren’t special at all. Anyone who hears this philosophy knows it’s wrong.”
“But one thing is clear: Wang Sichen absolutely does not favor the common people. After he takes office, he will only help this 20% scrape up more benefits—money, power, resources…”
“So that’s what it means! You’re so amazing.”
Zhou Xie adjusted his glasses, enjoying this admiring gaze. “There are twists and turns everywhere in this; you still have a lot to learn.”
“Yes, yes.”
Wen Rong humbly accepted the lesson. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone walk past hugging a girl’s waist, carrying a thick stench of smoke. He couldn’t help but sigh with emotion, “I just realized Shi Ye’s private life is actually so wholesome.”
Zhou Xie raised his voice. “How is his private life wholesome?”
“When he lived here, he just played tennis, boxed, and fixed cars. He didn’t let others smoke or drink, nor did he look for girl groups.”
Zhou Xie was speechless for half a second. “There’s no need to compare a nouveau riche like Lin Jinghang with Shi Ye. The stimulation brought by girl groups, smoking, and drinking simply doesn’t reach Shi Ye’s threshold.”
“But he just doesn’t have these unhealthy hobbies.”
“…He’s just pretending to be an innocent college boy in front of you. When his car speedometer hits a real 300km/h, you’ll know if he’s healthy or not.”
Finally, he added, “By the way, he smokes. He smokes with me. I’ll take a picture for you next time.”
“But I feel like you smoke more heavily than him.”
“……”
Zhou Xie couldn’t figure out why, when they were clearly discussing serious business, it suddenly turned into Wen Rong defending Shi Ye. Just as he wanted to turn the topic back, he suddenly heard a BANG from the distance.
The noise pierced the clouds, startling several pigeons resting nearby into flight. The crowd in the distance, with Lin Jinghang as the reference point, stumbled back a few steps, forming a semi-circle.
Through the scattered shadows, Zhou Xie saw a bodyguard in black clothes and black pants preparing to holster a gun.
A handgun, palm-sized, entirely black, reflecting a metallic sheen under the sunlight.
Thump—
His heart clenched unexpectedly tight, and he almost collapsed.
“Are you okay?”
Fortunately, Wen Rong supported him in time.
The sun was a bit intense. Cold sweat broke out on Zhou Xie’s forehead. Just as he wanted to shake his head, he was supported from the other side. “My cousin has had a stress reaction to gunshots ever since the accident with my uncle. Help him to the chairs over there to rest.”
Li Ao had arrived at some point.
Zhou Xie wanted to stop Li Ao from saying these things, but his head began to throb as if he had heatstroke. He opened his mouth but couldn’t make a sound. By the time he felt slightly better, he was already sitting under a shady umbrella.
“Lin Jinghang occupying this place isn’t convenient at all. Can’t even find water. If Shi Ye was still…”
“Li Ao—” Zhou Xie stopped Li Ao in time.
Li Ao froze, realizing belatedly that the reason Shi Ye gave up the villa was Wen Rong. He felt embarrassed. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
Wen Rong: “Huh?”
Li Ao sighed. What is Cousin nervous about? Wen Rong doesn’t care at all.
“I’ll go find some water.”
Under the parasol, only Wen Rong and Zhou Xie remained. Some people noticed them and eagerly wanted to come sit with them, but were driven away by Wen Rong’s “Seat taken.”
“Amazing!”
“So cool.”
Applause and flattering voices spilled out in waves from the distance.
Whether they had seen a gun before or not, everyone’s emotions ran high. Some girls took out their phones to take pictures—first of the pistol, then of the bodyguard, and finally selfies with the bodyguard and gun as the background.
When Li Ao returned with the water, the two were still sitting quietly.
Zhou Xie could feel that this was something Wen Rong did deliberately after hearing about the “stress reaction.”
No repetitive “My condolences,” “Look on the bright side,” or “I know you’re sad.” Just giving him a quiet place amidst the noise.
This quietness allowed Zhou Xie to slowly recover from his discomfort.
“You guys… haven’t played with guns before, have you? Let me perform for you.”
In the distance, Lin Jinghang took the gun from the bodyguard and postured to perform. A hand suddenly blocked his entire field of vision.
Zhou Xie paused, hearing Wen Rong say, “I understand your feeling. Everything that happened that day is a memory symbol. As soon as one pops up, it feels uncomfortable. Just like Shi Ye used to be.”
“Why is it ‘Shi Ye this’ and ‘Shi Ye that’ with you? Do you like him?”
