Chapter 6: Second Young Master Chu
Chu Yang searched for a good while before finally finding Pei Xilin in the gap of a small alleyway.
He had circled this spot three times already. It was only when Pei Xilin made a slight sound that he noticed a person curled up in the gap of the wall next to some broken crates.
Chu Yang: “…”
He looked around. It was very quiet. Pei Xilin must have hidden here after being hunted down.
Chu Yang: [System, thereâs no one lying in ambush here, right?]
The system did a scan and said confidently: [No. They couldn’t find him and left.]
Chu Yang loosened his grip on the collapsible baton and reached out a hand toward Pei Xilin with a hint of distaste. Pei Xilin must have been bleeding to hide next to these broken crates; the smell of the crates was just enough to mask the scent of blood.
Pei Xilin appeared to have fainted, yet the moment Chu Yang reached for him, he suddenly lunged and grabbed Chu Yangâs hand.
Chu Yang hadn’t let his guard down just because Pei Xilin seemed unconscious. He instantly raised a leg and swept it toward the otherâthe force of the wind heading straight for Pei Xilinâs face.
Pei Xilin quickly released Chu Yangâs wrist and retreated. This retreat clearly exhausted all his remaining strength. His back slammed heavily against the wall, his face becoming even more deathly pale.
The smell of blood grew stronger.
Pei Xilin didn’t even have the strength to see the person in front of him clearly. His eyelids fluttered and then dropped again.
…Perhaps today was the day he would die.
Chu Yang straightened up and spoke to the system with a hint of annoyance: [So annoying. I don’t want to save him anymore. Can I just knock him out and send him to the hospital?]
From an angle Chu Yang couldn’t see, Pei Xilinâs eyelashes trembled violently. He struggled to lift his eyes. Chu Yangâs lower face was covered by the mask; he was staring down at him with half-lidded eyes, his expression cold and his eyes bright, yet harboring a trace of irritation.
The person in front of him hadn’t opened his mouth, yet Pei Xilin had heard him. Was it… a heart voice? After a brief moment of shock, Pei Xilin calmed down. Perhaps it was a final “lucid interval” before death.
Seeing Pei Xilin look at him, Chu Yang leaned down and said softly, “Iâm taking you to the hospital. Youâd better not move.”
A scent drifted past his nose. Pei Xilinâs head spun for a moment, and his eyes closed uncontrollably. He could no longer tell if the person before him was using a knockout drug or if he was simply losing too much blood.
It must be a drug; otherwise, why would it smell so good?
The crates in front of him were moved aside. Slender arms gripped Pei Xilin, and then he was hauled up.
This body beneath him was very thin. The person was strong, but clearly couldn’t drag him easily. As Pei Xilin slumped against Chu Yang, he could hear his hurried breathing… and smell that even stronger fragrance…
He could also hear Chu Yangâs heart voice more clearly: [So heavy. All that muscle and he still got beaten like this.]
Pei Xilin: “…”
He didn’t have the strength to explain that he had been ambushed by over a dozen people.
Chu Yang threw him into the back seat. He looked at Pei Xilinâs dirty trouser legs and shoes with some distaste. “Pull them in.”
After saying that, he realized Pei Xilin might have fainted. Just as he was about to find something to push Pei Xilinâs feet in with, Pei Xilin pulled them in himself.
Chu Yangâs eyebrows rose. Perfect, saved him the trouble.
The car door slammed shut. He sat back in the driver’s seat and started the car. With one hand on the steering wheel, he pulled off his mask. Wearing a mask while dragging a person had been stifling; he was covered in sweat.
He lowered his brows as if suppressed with anger. He crumpled the mask into a ball and threw it into the small trash bin.
It was only then that Pei Xilin saw what the person who saved him looked like.
Even seeing only his eyes earlier, he knew this person was definitely good-looking, but he hadn’t expected… him to be this beautiful. It didn’t quite match his personality, but on second thought, it felt just rightâa bright, dazzling appearance paired with a bold personality and great combat skills.
Pei Xilin didn’t let himself lose consciousness completely. He lay in the back seat, watching that face through the slits of his eyes.
Chu Yang didn’t look back once.
The car was dim. Occasional lights from passing cars flickered across his face. The alternating light and shadow, combined with his cold expression, made him look stern and gorgeousâso deeply etched that it seemed he would be carved into one’s heart.
He looked like someone very capable of “playing” people. Pei Xilinâs thoughts were strangely in sync with 091.
Chu Yang dropped him off at the hospital. He didn’t support Pei Xilin inside; he went in directly to call for help. When he came out again, he was followed by doctors and a stretcher, and Pei Xilin was carried in.
Most were superficial wounds, but a small surgery was required. Chu Yang went to pay the fees. When it came time to fill in the name, he paused for a second before quickly writing down his own.
The system was a bit surprised: [I thought you wouldn’t write it.]
Chu Yang: [Who knows how many more times this will happen. Heâll find out sooner or later, and heâll investigate anyway. Iâm not the type to do a good deed anonymously.]
However, he didn’t plan on staying to take care of Pei Xilin. There was another matter now… his car was dirty and needed to be sent for a wash.
Chu Yang went to the restroom and washed his hands twice. He walked to the hospital entrance, stood there thinking for two minutes, and then pulled out his phone to find a contact named “Yin Lianchuan” and dialed.
The call was picked up instantly, though the other side was a bit noisy. Chu Yang moved the phone away slightly.
“Where are you? Are you free?”
“Second Young Master Chu finally feels like calling me? Iâm free, Iâm free! What is it? Should I come and pick you up?” The moment Yin Lianchuan received Chu Yangâs call, his entire demeanor changed. His mouth was practically split into a grin, his face full of smiles for the phone, while the next second he was using his eyes to warn everyone else to shut up.
Hearing “Second Young Master Chu,” everyone elseâs radar went off. They all wanted to lean in and listen. All these people knew Chu Yang “one-sidedly”; the one who actually knew him was Yin Lianchuan.
This guy Yin Lianchuan was also a bit crazy and incredibly possessive. From the start, he had been unwilling to introduce Chu Yang to them, saying that Chu Yang didn’t like hanging out with people who frequented places like this.
???
As if Yin Lianchuan himself didn’t come to places like this to drink all the time… They were just drinking, okay? He made it sound like they were doing something scandalous here.
Heaven knows how obedient they were being; they had even turned off the music. Yet the narrow-minded Yin Lianchuan still shielded his phone and headed for the balcony to take the call.
Who agreed to that?
Chu Yang let out a chuckle. “I need a pickup. Iâm at the hospital entrance. My car smells a bit and needs to be taken for a wash. Iâll drive to your place and take your car; you can drive mine back to swap tomorrow.”
He spoke with complete naturalness, making it clear he did this often.
But Yin Lianchuanâs attention wasn’t on that. If Chu Yangâs tone hadn’t been normal and he hadn’t been joking, he probably wouldn’t have waited for him to finish.
Even so, he wasn’t much better. As soon as Chu Yang stopped, he immediately shot back, “Why are you at the hospital? Playing the Good Samaritan or what? Don’t hide it from me.”
“Do I sound like Iâm in trouble? I just dropped someone off. Thereâs some mud and blood on the back seat.” Chu Yang casually twirled his keychain. “If you can’t do it, Iâll find a dry cleaner nearby.”
Yin Lianchuan had his own place for car modifications; a small matter like a car wash was nothing to him. Chu Yang had been there many times, so he thought of him immediately.
“Don’t. Iâm coming to the hospital to find you right nowâ”
Chu Yang frowned and interrupted him: “I don’t want to wait. Iâm going straight to your shop.”
“Fine, fine, fine. Iâm right nearby. Iâll wait for you.”
Only after hanging up did Yin Lianchuan reluctantly put his phone away. Then, with a face full of bliss, he grabbed his car keys and prepared to leave.
Seeing him like this, the others stopped drinking and quickly followed. “Chuan-ge, where are you going? Take me with you! Youâve been drinking; Iâll… uh… Iâll call a designated driver for you.”
They had come out to drink tonight, so everyone present had had a few. No one had a good excuse to drive.
Yin Lianchuan pushed them away. “Go, go, go. You smell like alcohol; don’t go stinking up the place.”
“Who is it, who is it?” The inquiry carried a trace of secret excitement. It was as if their hearts were about to leap out of their mouths along with their words.
They all knew who it was, but they were being deliberately evasive, as if saying those two words was something intimate.
“Whoever it is has nothing to do with you lot.” Yin Lianchuan walked fast, calling someone as he went. By the time he reached the door, the designated driver was already waiting.
He opened the door, got in, and buckled his seatbelt in one smooth motion.
When Chu Yang arrived, Yin Lianchuan was standing at the door. The overhead light shone on his face. With his hands tucked away, he saw Chu Yangâs car and stepped aside to let him back into the garage.
Then he waited for Chu Yang to come over.
Chu Yang tossed the car keys to him and smiled. “Why are you standing at the door? I know the way.”
Yin Lianchuan smiled slightly. “I wanted to wait for you.”
“A real ‘pickup’?” Chu Yang didn’t react much to these words. With an arched brow, he stepped closer.
He was good-looking, and that face was even more of a “one-hit kill” up close. Yin Lianchuanâs heart skipped a beat. He subconsciously swallowed and leaned back. “…Okay, I smell like alcohol. Iâm airing myself out.”
“I knew it. Itâs rare for your place to be empty today.” Chu Yang walked inside with him.
Yin Lianchuan scanned him up and down, left and right. Only after confirming that Chu Yang was perfectly fineâaside from a bit of dirt on his shoesâdid he relax.
The inside was massive, filled with either cars or car parts. After walking inward for a while, they reached a large bar and a sofa. Chu Yang flopped onto it.
Yin Lianchuan had likely had a bit too much to drink. Feeling a bit dizzy, he sat down beside him, then reached out to grab a bottle of grape-flavored drink from a nearby cabinet for Chu Yang.
Chu Yang liked this flavor, but he felt it was a bit too sweet right now. He waved it away, got up to grab a bottle of water from the fridge, unscrewed it, and tilted his head back to take a long drink. The lines of his snowy-white neck were smooth; further down was the protrusion of his collarbone and a glimpse of his white chest.
Yin Lianchuan looked up at him blankly. From his angle, Chu Yang blocked the overhead light, making the light scatter through his hair like silk threads. It was like a dream. Yin Lianchuan could barely control his expression.
After finishing half the water, Chu Yang looked down to see Yin Lianchuan like this. He frowned and waved a hand in front of him with some distaste. “What are you doing? Who are you thinking of with that expression?”
“A girl you like?”
Yin Lianchuan snapped out of it, quickly lowered his head, and patted his face. His tone was not very happy. “Not a girl.”
Chu Yang raised an eyebrow but didn’t press further. He wasn’t very interested in other peopleâs private matters.
He sat down, and Yin Lianchuan leaned in again, draping an arm across the back of the sofa behind Chu Yang. He tilted his head slightly to look at Chu Yang, not saying a word.
The distance was a bit close, and the atmosphere was a bit strange. Chu Yang turned his neck. “Are you really dizzy?”
Yin Lianchuan looked at the hand gripping the bottleâthe knuckles were well-defined, and the faint blue veins on the back of the hand were clearly visible. “Iâm not dizzy.”
Chu Yang stared at him for two seconds and said, “I don’t believe you.”
Chu Yangâs eyes were very dark and bright, and his lashes were very long. When he stared at someone, it was exceptionally heart-stirring. He stood up and said to Yin Lianchuan, “If youâre dizzy, Iâll drop you home on my way.”
“Don’tâ” Hearing that he intended to leave, Yin Lianchuan stood up immediately. “Iâm really not dizzy. Iâm just a bit bored.”
“Isn’t your brother away? We haven’t seen each other in so long, yet you won’t even keep me company.” Perhaps wanting to fake a bit of a drunken fit, he grabbed Chu Yangâs arm and tried to lean in.
Chu Yang shuddered at the second half of his sentence. Furthermore, with Yin Lianchuan trying to lean against him, he reflexively pushed back. He pushed so hard that the other slammed back onto the sofa. Yin Lianchuan was caught off guard and nearly fell to the floor.
“You…” A flash of regret crossed Chu Yangâs face. “Sorry…”
Yin Lianchuan wiped his face, his expression returning to normal. “Iâm fine. Play some games with me?”
“Alright.”
