Part 2
Shen Lin’s eyes looked fierce, and his small claws curled. His fingertips felt a dull pain. That was the aftermath of the egg liquid repairing the wounds at the base of his claws. At the same time, he felt a bit puzzled. These two people had come specifically for him from the start; “destroy” made the cub feel uncomfortable.
The cub’s mouth thinned into a straight line. He manipulated his tentacles to transmit his intent to the Ghost Vines. The Ghost Vines attacking Wil turned around. Although there were far fewer Ghost Vines on Wil’s side now, the remaining ones were still enough of a handful.
He spat out some blood and looked at Xiong Si’s back, his eyes becoming increasingly sinister. Xiong Si was flung away by a Ghost Vine, one of his legs twisting in the opposite direction. He couldn’t use any force; the bones inside were completely mangled. His eyes sharpened, his heart turned cold, and he let out an angry roar. The beast markings on his face shifted between light and dark, and the steel-like hair spreading from behind his ears to his neck became denser. The clothes on his back tore as brown fur exploded outward.
A five-meter-tall, grayish-black brown bear with saliva dripping from its mouth appeared.
Shen Lin was slightly startled when he saw this. People in his previous life had avoided monsters, but he didn’t expect people here to take the initiative to become monsters—though they were a bit ugly. The brown bear looked up, its gaze locked onto the pink egg in the nest.
The ground shook as the brown bear ran. The Ghost Vines lurking around gathered near the nest, and when they saw the brown bear rushing over, they raised their sharp, hooked green leaves. The saw-like hooks tore away large chunks of the brown bear’s flesh. The brown bear’s fur was thick; even a laser gun would find it hard to break through, yet it was easily sliced open by the Ghost Vines’ leaves.
Shen Lin wanted to see the abilities of the monsters here, so he communicated with a section of the Ghost Vine and attached his consciousness to it. He controlled that section of the Ghost Vine to grab the brown bear’s hind leg and slammed it fiercely against the mechanical wall—very simple and crude.
Shen Lin lived with a group of irritable big monsters who could go berserk at any moment. He couldn’t help but pick up some of their habits, so the cub was not a fragile little cub who needed protection all the time. The cub opened his mouth wide and crazily absorbed the nutrients in the liquid, his eyes filled with battle intent.
Bang!
Bang, bang!
Dents shaped like the brown bear in different poses appeared on the wall. The cub didn’t kill the monster immediately; his purpose was to see where its limit was. If nothing went wrong, he would continue to wander here after hatching. Testing the strength of the monsters here in advance would better guarantee his future safety.
As an A-grade beastman and a leader among bounty hunters, Xiong Si had killed more beastmen than he could count. Who would have thought that the bounty hunter leader, whom other beastmen feared like tigers, would now be lying on the ground like a dead dog? It was a pity he didn’t even have the ability to fight back.
Xiong Si lay on the ground in an extremely distorted pose. His bones were shattered, and bone spurs pierced through his flesh, looking somewhat gruesome. He could even clearly feel his life slipping away. Shen Lin could also sense the bear’s brain’s will weakening and couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed.
After staying here for so long, someone who could turn into a monster finally came. He had thought the monsters here would be as fierce as those in the apocalypse, and he was prepared to fight to the death to kill it. In the end, this was it? Boring…
Just as he was about to withdraw his consciousness, he found that the other person hiding in the corner had moved.
Xiong Si’s retinas were ruptured, and his vision was a sea of blood. Suddenly, a blurred figure appeared in front of him. Xiong Si was all too familiar with this figure. His pupils dilated as they reflected the pink potion Wil was holding.
“You…”
“Leader, you don’t want to die so miserably, do you? Why don’t I help you…”
The pink potion fell to the ground, and a pink gas wafted out from the shattered tube, spreading throughout the cavern. Xiong Si’s temples throbbed, his blood surged, and his veins bulged. His eyes turned red bit by bit. Blood seeped out, gradually wetting his fur. His nostrils flared, and the hot air he breathed out had a metallic scent of blood.
Xiong Si, who had suffered multiple fractures, actually stood up again.
“It’s a pity your teammates were all short-lived. This good stuff can only be enjoyed by you alone. Sigh~ I’m really such a good person.”
Wil sighed as he watched Xiong Si’s appearance. Suddenly, his expression changed, and a needle appeared in his hand, which he stabbed into Xiong Si’s neck. As the liquid in the syringe decreased, veins bulged, and the pink liquid flowed with his blood. After doing all this, Wil threw away the syringe. Another round object in his other hand rolled into the corner, occasionally flashing a red light.
“Roar!”
Xiong Si’s body was even larger and stronger than before, like a small mountain. His pupils were covered in blood, and his crazed genes boiled, overriding the remaining human reason in his eyes. An aura of mutation and collapse spread through the space. At this moment, he had become a primal brown bear that could no longer think with human emotions.
The vines wrapped around him snapped instantly. The Ghost Vines’ regenerative ability showed itself at this time; vines came from all directions continuously, wrapping the struggling brown bear into a cocoon again.
Creeaaaak!
The tooth-aching sound of bone cracking echoed. The brown bear ignored everything and rushed toward Shen Lin’s location, even though the vines were already cutting into its flesh. Fresh red blood oozed out from the gaps in the Ghost Vines.
Before Shen Lin could react, the protective Ghost Vines all stepped forward. There was no room for Shen Lin to intervene. Through the gaps in the Ghost Vines, the brown bear stared fixedly at Wil, who was hiding in the corner, its bloodshot eyes overflowing with monstrous hatred. With a trace of remaining reason, it wanted to pounce on Wil, but the Ghost Vines were like an iron cage, giving it no chance to resist.
“BOOM—!”
The brown bear could only self-detonate with a heart full of resentment. The self-detonation of an A-grade beastman could cause unimaginable disaster. The air around them surged with rolling heat waves, and stones three feet deep were scraped off the ground.
Several ghost vines as thick as giant trees quickly gathered in front of the nest, wrapping into a thick cocoon. Once the dust settled, the explosion had blasted a large hole in the giant Ghost Vines and created a massive pit in the ground. The Ghost Vines, which stretched for hundreds of meters around the pink egg to form a large canopy, blocked the flying rocks and dust. The glow on the eggshell’s surface was still flashing, untainted by dust; not even a “corner of its clothes” had been touched.
Shen Lin sniffed, keenly smelling a foul stench penetrating the eggshell from outside.
“Yue~”
After the completely regressed beastman self-detonated, a strange gas dissipated from his body. A thin layer of pink mist floated in the cavern. They were like maggots on a bone, firmly attaching to the Ghost Vines. The giant Ghost Vines were affected, and gray-brown mold spots began to grow from the roots.
Shen Lin felt a wave of dizziness and was unexpectedly kicked out of the Ghost Vines’ consciousness. The cub was still a bit dazed as he watched the Ghost Vines poke a large hole in the ceiling of the space built from energy stones. The vines drilled out from underground to the surface, growing wildly. The pink mist carrying a destructive aura also drifted to the surface along with the gaps opened by the vines. The gray-brown mold spots were rapidly spreading from the underground space as the center.
Shen Lin finally managed to enter the deep consciousness of the Ghost Vines, but he was caught off guard by a massive pile of black trash that hit him right in the face. This massive pile was all trash in the Ghost Vines’ brains. Strange—hadn’t it already been cleared? Why were there suddenly so many?
Shen Lin thought of that small tube of pink potion and couldn’t help but feel a chill in his heart at the scene it had caused. It seemed the new world was also very dangerous; he would have to be more careful when wandering in the future!
“Thump!”
The sound of a rock hitting the canopy brought the cub back to his senses. To ensure he wouldn’t be attacked by the frenzied Ghost Vines, the cub could only roll up his small sleeves and grit his teeth to endure the strong rejection from the giant Ghost Vines’ consciousness. He dutifully set to work clearing the trash in their brains.
Sigh, having one brain for everyone is just not good; there’s simply… too much trash!
Shen Lin: I’ll pick it up, I’ll pick, pick, pick QWQ~
