Chapter 6: The Xenogenic Who Throws Jewelry
After getting dressed, Yu An followed Wen Xun downstairs. It was only then that he truly felt the luxury of the Lin family home. Aside from the daily living areas like bedrooms and bathrooms, there were walk-in closets, an art studio, a study, and even an indoor cinema on the top floor.
These things were completely beyond Yu Anâs imagination. He followed behind Wen Xun, and every maid they passed stopped to call him “Young Master.”
Yu An was startled by the address and told them in a small voice, “My name is Yu An, not Young Master.”
These uncles and aunties had gotten his name wrong.
The maids opened their mouths, but they didn’t know how to explain it to this precious little boy. Wen Xun patted Yu Anâs small head. “Just call him An-an. Listen to him.”
However, to show respect, the maids still addressed him as “Young Master An-an.”
Hearing the uncles and aunties use the right name, Yu An happily went to the dining room with Wen Xun for breakfast. An old grandpa was already waiting for them there. Seeing them arrive, he signaled with a wave, and the servants carrying trays began to set the table.
Yu An hid behind Wen Xunâs legs, sizing up this grandpa who didn’t look like them.
Grandpa had golden hair and blue eyes, and he was exceptionally tall. He looked old-fashioned and sternâthe kind of face that could make a child cry just by looking solemn.
Yu An timidly retracted his gaze and hugged Wen Xunâs long leg. “Papa…”
Wen Xun picked him up and introduced him. “This is Grandpa Ide. Grandpa is Caucasian, so he looks a bit different from us. In the future, if your papas have to work and can’t be home, Grandpa Ide will look after you.”
Butler Ide bowed slightly to Yu An. “Young Master Yu An, it is a pleasure to meet you. I wish you a good day.”
Yu An endured his shyness and peeked his small head out. “Hello, Grandpa~”
A faint smile appeared on the old butler’s face. “Little An-an is so polite. Such a good child.”
He was praised!
Yu An happily rested his chin on Wen Xunâs shoulder, the dimples on his face looking as if they were filled with sugar. The whole child seemed sweet as can be, his eyes crinkling into crescents.
Breakfast today was incredibly sumptuous. Seafood porridge and soup dumplings were things Yu An had never tasted before. Every time he tried a new dish, those beautiful lake-blue eyes would visibly brighten, his cheeks puffing out like a little hamster hoarding food.
“Papa, eat!” Yu An tremblingly used his chopsticks to give his favorite shrimp cake to Wen Xun. He nodded his head and pointed at it. “This is yummy. Papa, eat.”
Wen Xun supportively ate the shrimp cake and nodded in agreement. “It is indeed delicious. Should I have them make it for you again tomorrow morning?”
There was more of this delicious food tomorrow?!
Yu An nodded like a chick pecking at grain and thanked him crisply, “Thank you, Papa!”
“Auntie Liu made these; go thank her.” Wen Xun pointed to a kind-looking middle-aged woman. “Auntie Liu made all these tasty things. I don’t know how to cook.”
Auntie Liu smiled at Yu An. “As long as Little An-an likes it.”
Because of Lin Huaichenâs instructions, everyone in the Lin household either called him “Little An-an” or “Young Master An-an.” It sounded cute and full of childish charm.
Faced with people he wasn’t familiar with, Yu An was much more shy and reserved. His voice was tiny, soft, and adorable. “Thank you, Auntie Liu. I really like the food you made. Itâs very delicious.”
Auntie Liuâs smile was so wide her mouth could hardly close. she repeatedly said she would brew soup for “Baby An-an” next time, wanting to raise him to be fair and chubby. Little An-an was far too thin right now.
Yu An grew to like Auntie Liu even more. After finishing his meal, he obediently helped her clear the bowls and chopsticks from the table and take them to the kitchen.
Auntie Liu felt for the child and hurried to stop him. “Little An-an, put those down. I’ll do it. We can’t let your fair little hands get dirty.”
“I… I can wash dishes.” Yu An held the dishes and looked down at his hands. “My hands aren’t dirty. Washing dishes is sticky… but I can wash my hands too.”
Yu An was determined to wash the dishes. Auntie Liu couldn’t win against him and looked to Wen Xun for help.
Wen Xun was stuffed from being fed by Yu An over and over. He was lounging on the sofa digesting his food. Hearing Yu Anâs words, he clapped his hands in amazement. “An-an is so amazing. When I was three, I couldn’t do anything except cry.”
And if he cried too long, heâd get dehydratedâso useless.
Wen Xun deeply felt the fact that he was inferior to a child. He let out a sigh and suddenly felt cold, so he casually pulled a small quilt over himself and squinted his eyes contentedly.
Actually, he was useful too; at least he knew to cover himself when he was cold. Wen Xun was instantly satisfied with himself again.
Yu An specifically moved a small stool to help Auntie Liu wash dishes, but in the end, he found he wasn’t needed. Auntie Liu used a dishwasher and then placed all the dishes into a UV sterilization cabinet. Everything was done.
Auntie Liu looked at the dazed little guy and affectionately patted his head. “Alright, thank you for the help, Little An-an. Go play with Papa.”
Yu An looked blank. But he hadn’t done anything.
Yu An was coaxed and ushered out of the kitchen by Auntie Liu. Wen Xun had been waiting for him outside, holding a tablet and having a video call with Ling Xingcheng. “An-an, Brother Xingcheng is looking for you.”
It took Yu An several seconds to remember who Ling Xingcheng was. He slowly drifted over to Wen Xunâs side, poked his head out to look, and caught sight of Ling Xingchengâs signature red hair. He secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
It really was the red-haired brother.
“Brother.” Yu Anâs milky little face pressed close to the camera as he greeted Ling Xingcheng obediently. “Good morning, Brother~ Did Brother find my doggy?”
“No.” Ling Xingcheng savored the three sweet-as-honey “Brothers” for a few seconds. His face remained that of a cool, unmoved big shot. “I just came to ask… Your Highness, is your dog really entirely yellow with only four white paws? Are you sure you didn’t remember wrong?”
Ling Xingcheng had searched this small area top to bottom and hadn’t found the dog Yu An described. He suspected the kid had remembered the dog’s features incorrectly.
Yu An seriously recalled Mondayâs appearance and shook his head firmly. “I didn’t. I remember very clearly; Monday is that color. Also, Monday likes eating ham sausages and talks a lot. He said he has many ‘little brothers’.”
“But what are ‘little brothers’? Younger brothers? But Monday is only a few months old…”
Yu An provided as many clues as possible to Ling Xingcheng. Ling Xingcheng listened seriously at first, but his expression slowly turned suspicious. He interrupted Yu An. “Wait, you said the puppy told you?”
“Mhm!”
Ling Xingcheng: “…”
Feeling like he was wasting his time, Ling Xingcheng frustratedly ran his hand through his hair. He didn’t expect Yu An to give any useful information anymore. “Forget it, forget it. I’ll go look again. You go play with your teacher.”
With that, he hung up the video call.
Yu An looked at Wen Xun. Wen Xun asked for his opinion, “Go out to play?”
Yu An: “Okay~”
Yu An held Wen Xunâs hand as they went out together. The large fountain outside the Lin manor caught his attention. After watching the fountain, they went to the stables to see the vigorous horses, and finally, they went to see the beautiful Crescent Bay in front of the Lin family estate.
It was a cool, overcast day; the sun wasn’t too harsh. Yu An took off his shoes and stood in the fine sand, gazing at the boundless ocean. The sea breeze blew the stray hairs on his forehead, revealing his exquisite little face.
While Yu An was picking up seashells on the beach, he suddenly realized something was off. He turned to ask Wen Xun, “Papa, do we have no neighbors?”
Wen Xun shook his head. “Our family is the only one currently settled in Blue Moon Bay. But there are many people in the research base to the east. Do you want to go meet them?”
In all fairness, Wen Xun didn’t like social activities; he preferred being alone to do what he liked. But if Yu An wanted to go play at someone else’s place, he did have a few good friends he could take Yu An to see.
Just as Wen Xun was calculating which friendâs house to visit, the child leaned over, his small head resting against his leg. “Don’t go, don’t go. Stay with Papa… wait for Papa Lin to come back.”
Yu An didn’t like strangers. Having no neighbors was a very good thing for the introverted little guy. It meant he didn’t have to talk to people he didn’t know, nor would he be stared at by strangers.
This was great~
Yu An sat by the beach for a while, his little feet splashing in the water. Suddenly, he heard a sound by his ear, but the voice was too blurry; he couldn’t hear what was being said.
Yu An instinctively thought it was Wen Xun talking to him because they were the only two on this beach. But Wen Xunâs mouth hadn’t moved at all; he was currently squatting, using a blade of grass to poke the small bubbles rising from the sand.
It wasn’t Papaâso who was talking? Yu An looked around blankly but couldn’t find the speaker.
But the voice soon vanished, and the slight confusion was overwritten by the fun of playing in the water. Yu An felt the tide wash over his feet over and over, his eyes full of smiles. Small grains of sand were also washed onto the tops of his feet, feeling a bit itchy.
Wen Xun also walked barefoot beside Yu An, constantly paying attention to his every move to prevent him from falling.
Suddenly, Yu An stepped on something hard. He spotted a light blue stone in the sand and bent down to pick it up. Under the sunlight, the translucent blue stone was radiant and very beautiful. Most importantlyâit was heart-shaped!
Yu An instantly fell in love with the stone. He joyfully turned it over and over to look at it. Suddenly remembering he had a papa, he decided to share it.
“Papa, look~” Yu An held up the stone. Bathed in sunlight, the child seemed to be glowing. He shared his joy with Wen Xun with full exuberance. “I found a stone. Itâs a heart~”
Wen Xunâs reaction was to hold up his phone and snap a photo of Yu An. Looking at the childâs smile frozen on the screen, his heart felt as if it were filled to the brim. His mood remained sunny.
Yu An trotted over to show the heart stone to Wen Xun. Wen Xun held the crystal-clear stone and fell silent for a moment. “This doesn’t seem to be a stone. Itâs a blue diamond.”
But a blue diamond the size of a babyâs fist was worth a fortune. How could it be found so easily? Wen Xun couldn’t help but doubt his judgment. “Let Lin Huaichen look at it when he gets back. He understands these things better than I do.”
Yu An didn’t know what a blue diamond was. In his eyes, there wasn’t much difference between a stone and a diamond; he just thought this blue stone was prettier than average.
The child, seeing the sea for the first time, ran around excitedly and found many things: a pearl necklace, a pocket watch, porcelain bottles…
Wen Xun looked at the growing pile of jewelry and accessories beside them and fell into silence. Could these things really be found by the seaside? His dark eyes shifted to the calm surface of the sea. Upon careful sensing, he realized there was a trace of an unusual magnetic field fluctuation.
A Xenogenic?
Wen Xun stared fixedly at the water and finally saw the whole process.
A grayish-black tentacle cautiously emerged from the sea. Coiled in the tentacle was a gold necklace. Taking advantage of a moment when Yu An wasn’t looking, it “splatted” the necklace down by the childâs feet, then quickly dove back into the water.
Wen Xunâs eyes widened in shock. “…”
A Xenogenic that throws treasures? Wen Xun was bewildered. Was this some new species?
But the appearance of an unknown Xenogenic in Blue Moon Bay was extremely bizarre. Setting aside the high-pressure magnetic field surrounding Blue Moon Bay, the high-level Ability Users guarding the perimeter wouldn’t let a Xenogenic slip in silently.
Could it be that this Xenogenic was exceptionally powerful?
Wen Xun pondered for a few seconds and silently expanded his mental power field. Under [Absolute Immunity], any Xenogenic with a lower rank than his would lose all abilities.
Yet that tentacle continued to throw jewelry onto the shore relentlessly, unaffected. Perhaps it was throwing with too much enthusiasm because, without paying attention, it used a bit too much force and “thwacked” Yu An right on the forehead.
Yu An let out an “Ow!” and squatted down clutching his small head. With teary eyes, he looked at Wen Xun and complained aggrievedly, “Papa, a bad thing hit me.”
Wen Xun: “…”
He looked at the sea again. The tentacle that had made a mistake curled up helplessly and sank listlessly below the surface.
