Chapter 21: The Dodder Flower part 1
Listening to the voice behind him, the corners of Bai Mu’s mouth curled up. Much of the frustration in his heart dissipated, but throwing Han Naijin just now had cost him dearly; that arm throbbed with a piercing pain.
He walked quickly back into the building, ignoring the man left on the ground. Once back in his room, he locked the door and sat on the edge of the bed. His tense nerves relaxed, but his mind remained a chaotic mess.
The development of events had completely diverged from his plan. It seemed he wouldn’t be able to leave Laea City for a while. So what should he do next?
As he was deep in thought, a knock suddenly sounded at the door. At this hour, who else could it be but Han Naijin.
The knock was light yet impossible to ignore. Bai Mu sat on the edge of the bed and didn’t move. He felt that if he didn’t open the door, Han Naijin would understand his meaning. He needed to think things through calmly rather than facing Han Naijin again in such an unprepared state.
As he expected, the knocking stopped after a while. Bai Mu let out a long breath. But his comfort didn’t last more than a few seconds before a click sounded. Bai Mu watched as the door was opened, and the person he least wanted to see right now was leaning lazily against the doorway, looking at him and saying, “Still angry?”
After saying that, Han Naijin walked in as naturally as if he were entering his own bedroom.
Bai Mu only felt a headache coming on. He lowered his eyes to avoid looking at Han Naijin and said coldly, “What are you here for now?”
Han Naijin’s silhouette drew closer, and then the edge of the bed sank as Han Naijin sat down beside him. Han Naijin turned his head and whispered, “Your left shoulder is injured. Let me treat it first, otherwise you’ll suffer tonight. I’ll have Zhang Qing look at it tomorrow morning.”
Bai Mu looked toward Han Naijin and only then realized the man had brought a first-aid kit. It turned out Han Naijin had discovered his shoulder injury and came specifically to treat it.
To say he wasn’t moved at all would be a lie, but the more concern Han Naijin showed him, the more uneasy he felt.
Han Naijin opened the medicine box and rolled up his sleeves, saying quite naturally, “Expose your shoulder.”
Hearing this, Bai Mu hesitated for a long time, a faint flush appearing on his cheeks. Although he and Han Naijin were both male and their bodies weren’t much different, as an Omega and an Alpha, there was an insurmountable barrier. Being forced to expose his body before the other party again and again made him feel bashful.
He stole a glance at Han Naijin from the corner of his eye, but Han Naijin’s expression was open and calm, entirely like a doctor treating a patient. If he remained coy and evasive, it would look affected.
Thinking of this, Bai Mu slowly pulled his collar open, fully exposing his left arm and shoulder.
Although Bai Mu’s build was thin, he wasn’t frail. His muscles were firm, and the lines of his shoulders and neck showed a beautiful curve. With his clothes partially lowered, the tender and soft gland at the back of his neck was also fully revealed. Han Naijin’s gaze fell uncontrollably onto Bai Mu’s gland. The pink color of the gland looked even more moist and translucent against Bai Mu’s porcelain-white skin. Han Naijin looked closely; there were no teeth marks on it. As Zhang Qing had said, he truly had never been marked by an Alpha.
Looking at that gland, Han Naijin couldn’t help but wonder what it would feel like to take a bite of that pink, smooth, tender meat.
Until today, he had never felt any curiosity toward an Omega’s gland, let alone the thought of investigating it. But right now, he felt an uncontrollable urge toward that hidden Omega gland. It was as if some emotion he had hidden in the depths of his heart suddenly surged forth, giving him a start. He stared at the gland right before him, his tongue brushing against his sharp canine teeth; he actually felt a desire to bite it and ravage it.
“What’s… wrong?”
Bai Mu’s back was to Han Naijin, so he naturally couldn’t see Han Naijin’s shifting expression. He only asked softly when he noticed the lack of movement for a long time.
Han Naijin hurriedly retracted his gaze. Bai Mu’s voice was flat, but it was enough to snap him back to reality instantly.
“Looking for the medicine.”
Han Naijin’s voice held no abnormality. He suppressed the agitation that troubled him and took a jar of ointment from the kit. He first rubbed his palms together to heat them, squeezed the ointment onto them, and then pressed his hands together to spread it. Once the ointment had fully melted, he raised his hands and placed them over Bai Mu’s left arm and shoulder.
The moment Han Naijin’s hands made contact, Bai Mu’s body shivered, and he couldn’t help but frown.
“Does it hurt?” Han Naijin’s hands paused.
When Han Naijin’s hands pressed down, Bai Mu realized the injury was far more serious than he had imagined. It seemed to have swollen, and it felt as if the muscles had been torn. Yet he pretended to be relaxed: “It doesn’t hurt.”
Hearing Bai Mu say this, Han Naijin continued his movements. He controlled his strength well; at first, Bai Mu gritted his teeth in pain, but before long, that aching, swollen sensation dissipated significantly. Han Naijin’s palms were burning hot, while the ointment was cool; these two temperatures spread through his entire body through his skin, bringing a strange itchiness.
At this time, they weren’t clashing, nor were they full of guard and calculation. Although they didn’t speak much, the atmosphere was quite harmonious. With the pain in his shoulder eased, Bai Mu’s mood also lightened. He followed up with the doubt in his heart: “How did you discover that I left at night?”
Han Naijin’s movements paused for a second again before he continued the massage with practiced skill, not immediately answering Bai Mu.
Last night, after returning to his room and showering, he had tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. A faint, cool sensation seemed to linger in his palm.
Coming out of the vegetable patch, gunfire had suddenly erupted behind them. In his desperation, he had grabbed Bai Mu’s wrist to pull him along as they fled. As they ran, the wrist turned into a hand, but Bai Mu seemed truly frightened and hadn’t noticed at all.
Bai Mu’s hand was softer than imagined, as if it had no bones. It was just a bit cool. Han Naijin felt as if he were holding a weightless feather.
Later, when they ran back to the car, Bai Mu didn’t pull away immediately either. He had even laughed at him in such a relaxed way, his eyes crinkling.
In that instant, it felt as if a string in his heart had been violently plucked, and his heartbeat quickened for no reason.
Back in his room, after failing to fall asleep numerous times, Han Naijin got up. By the faint light from the window, he lit a cigarette. The smell of tobacco filled his mind, giving him a brief moment of numbness. Then came a second, a third…
Han Naijin rarely smoked, but once he started, he couldn’t stop. A neat row of cigarette butts was lined up in the ashtray. When he smoked, his fingers touched his lips, and it felt as if Bai Mu’s hand were touching them. Han Naijin immediately threw away the cigarette and stood foolishly by the window, a strange feeling in his heart.
As he watched, Bai Mu actually appeared in the courtyard like a dream. Han Naijin didn’t know what he was doing sneaking around so late, but intuition made his heart go cold.
He observed silently from the second floor. Bai Mu looked up toward him once, giving him a start. Only later did he realize that Bai Mu wouldn’t discover him peering from the shadows.
He couldn’t see Bai Mu’s expression clearly, but he saw the man seem to shake his head and let out a helpless sigh. Immediately after, a set of silver armor was equipped.
Han Naijin finally understood—this was an escape attempt!
Han Naijin couldn’t describe his feelings. That seed that had just sprouted instantly withered, as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over his head, waking him up completely.
This heartless white-eyed wolf!
Watching the white-eyed wolf disappear into the night, logic told him to let him go. Keeping this escaped convict might lead to major trouble; it was better that he left.
But in the next instant, he pushed open the window, equipped his light mecha, and chased after him.
However, Han Naijin was not going to let Bai Mu know about the myriad of thoughts that had crossed his mind that night.
Just as Bai Mu thought Han Naijin wouldn’t answer, the man stopped his movements, moved closer, rested his head on Bai Mu’s shoulder, and said with an air of profound mystery, “Do you believe in telepathy?”
Absolute nonsense!
The anger Bai Mu had suppressed flared up again, but this punchable guy was still treating his injury—could he hit him or scold him?
Bai Mu discovered that Han Naijin always left him helpless; he couldn’t be hit or scolded.
