THE REBATE SYSTEM OF SUDDEN WEALTH chapter 17

Chapter 17: Class Meeting
Gu Wanrong had heard Xu Rong sneaking back into the dorm the previous night. After getting her Donglai Hotel membership card, her blind box draw count had increased to 27. She planned a ten-draw tonight and waited until everyone was asleep before using the system. She heard Xu Rong return to the dorm just then.
“System, ten draws.”
[Congratulations, host! You have drawn ‘Flawless Beauty’ and ‘Picturesque Brows,’ each granting 6 free attribute points.]
Gu Wanrong immediately used both items. A tingling sensation passed, and she saw her skin and appearance stats increase by one point each on her system attribute panel. Turning on a small bedside lamp and using the selfie function on her phone, she observed the changes.
Before, her features weren’t exceptionally refined, but their harmonious combination created a soft beauty. After using ‘Picturesque Brows,’ her eyes became strikingly delicate. ‘Flawless Beauty’ gave her fair skin, making her complexion smooth, with pores invisible to the naked eye.
After admiring her transformation, Gu Wanrong decided to allocate three points to appearance and three to endurance to ease the upcoming military training.
[Appearance: Beauty 8, Skin 8, Figure 7.5, Temperament 5.5+1.5, Other 5.5+1.5 (Voice, Scent, Hair)
Physical Fitness: Endurance 1+3, Explosive Power 2, Constitution 3, Health 4]
After allocating the attribute points and reviewing her enhanced stats, Gu Wanrong, already a great beauty even without makeup, drifted off to sleep.
It was the first day of school, and the class group chat announced a class meeting at 9 am.
Jiang Yanyao gave a helpless look to Gu Wanrong and Yu Yingying before leaving the dorm with Xu Rong.
“One bad-tempered girl and one white lotus flower,” Yu Yingying commented after Xu Rong and Jiang Yanyao left. “You didn’t interact with them either. Don’t you think the same?”
Perhaps because Gu Wanrong had saved her the night before, Yu Yingying felt more comfortable approaching Gu Wanrong.
Gu Wanrong nodded in agreement.
She had recognized Xu Rong’s unpleasant temperament, and Jiang Yanyao’s two-faced, fawning nature from the first meeting. Yu Yingying, on the other hand, was initially polite but distant, but became very talkative when comfortable.
Gu Wanrong experienced this firsthand as they walked from the dorm to the cafeteria and then to the classroom.
Yu Yingying replied that she knew she talked a lot, but Gu Wanrong was equally greedy for food in the cafeteria.
At 8:55 am, Gu Wanrong and Yu Yingying arrived at the lecture hall.
About 30-40 students were already present. Everyone was keen for this first class meeting, a rarity that wouldn’t be repeated later, as students would typically arrive just in time.
As they entered, students, both male and female, subtly glanced at them. While the Chinese department had many beautiful and well-groomed girls, few possessed their natural, unspoiled beauty. Many hoped to sit next to them.
Gu Wanrong and Yu Yingying chose seats against the wall.
A buzz from WeChat:
Jiang Yanyao: Rongrong’s bag and parasol are taking up your and Yingying’s seats. Our four-person dorm can’t sit together. (jpg)
Gu Wanrong saw Jiang Yanyao’s message and her apologetic expression.
“What’s Jiang Yanyao doing?” Yu Yingying asked, goosebumps rising.
“Here,” Gu Wanrong showed her the phone.
Yu Yingying glanced at it and returned the phone, her slightly downturned lips expressing her opinion.
Gu Wanrong understood. She simply replied with a “?” questioning why she should sit with them.
At 9 am sharp, Chen Sheng, the advisor, entered the classroom.
“Hello, everyone. I’m your advisor. We’ll be spending the next four years together. My name is Chen Sheng,” he introduced himself, writing his name on the board.
He reiterated his contact information from the class group chat, emphasizing the importance of reporting absences or emergencies. He didn’t want to be informed of any student incidents by school authorities without prior notice.
“The first order of business is self-introductions. Starting with the first row by the window.”
Students took turns introducing themselves. One boy, Zhang Shi, said, “I’m Zhang Shi from Shanghai. My family is well-off. I play golf, tennis, and football. On holidays, I might go surfing or skiing in Austria.”
He showed off his new watch. “Besides sports, I collect watches.”
Gu Wanrong recognized him from a previous house viewing.
She remembered his extravagant social media posts during college, later revealed to be largely fabricated; he was essentially a social climber.
“Poser,” Yu Yingying whispered to Gu Wanrong.
Gu Wanrong was impressed. She only learned about Zhang Shi’s true nature after his exposé.
“He’s just showing off his money,” Yu Yingying said confidently.
“That watch is a Jaquet Droz,” someone whispered.
“He bought an apartment in Xinyi Garden for over 10 million yuan, and still complains it’s too small.”
“Is that the one across from the school gate?”
“And he drives a sports car…”
Their whispers reached Gu Wanrong and Yu Yingying.
“You’re amazing, Yingying,” Gu Wanrong praised.
After all introductions, Chen Sheng announced the class elections, then the military training.
Gu Wanrong and Yu Yingying didn’t run for office; Xu Rong failed to become class president and became the writing secretary, while Zhang Shi became vice president, as in the past.
Military training would begin that afternoon, and the newly elected class committee members were to collect and distribute the uniforms.
After the class meeting, as Gu Wanrong and Yu Yingying headed back to the dorm, Zhang Shi stopped Gu Wanrong.
“Gu Wanrong, I saw you renting an apartment off-campus. Let me give you a ride home after school.” Zhang Shi’s words drew the attention of the departing students.
He clearly had designs on her.
“No thanks. I live at Yaxue New Garden,” Gu Wanrong said coolly, bypassing him.
Embarrassed and humiliated, Zhang Shi’s face turned red and then pale. Gu Wanrong wasn’t someone easily impressed and had just rejected his advances. The onlookers quickly dispersed, satisfied with the drama.
