Chapter 94: Dying to Shoot It Dead
After a chaotic flurry of movement, Hong Que finally put on his combat suit.
He practically fled toward the cave entrance. âIâm going to find a way out! You don’t have to wait for me to eat!â
Watching Hong Que flee in panic, Xie Qiang blinked. Just as she was about to get up, the lean arm around her waist tightened. Then, Mo Yinâs head nuzzled the back of her neck.
âBrother left.â
Xie Qiang heard it as a question, so she replied, âMm, he left.â
The moment the words left her mouth, she was flipped over to face Mo Yin.
Mo Yin blinked his drowsy wolf eyes and tapped his fingertip against her lips. âKiss.â
âNo.â Xie Qiang refused decisively. âIt easily triggers the desire to mark.â
Mo Yin wasn’t discouraged. His fingertip slid past the girlâs throat, poking the tooth mark he had left below, and then he revealed his misty wolf eyes. âWant to bite.â
Xie Qiang grabbed his finger and moved it away, refusing heartlessly once more. âYou cannot. Hong Que will feel it.â
The youth in black immediately sat up, dejected. After staring at Xie Qiangâs lips for a while, he stepped over her legs and jumped off the stone bed with a heavy pace.
She is together with Brother = We can kiss openly.
Must matchmake… her and Brother.
Sitting by the fire that was now nothing but ash, Mo Yin chewed on a fruit with a blank expression. He even chewed the core to pieces. Just as he was about to swallow, he suddenly clutched his throat as if he were choking, and then his whole body collapsed to the ground.
Xie Qiang heard the noise and looked back. Seeing Mo Yin convulsing on the floor, she ran over in a panic. âMo Yin? Mo Yin, whatâs wrong?â
Mo Yin clutched his throat in agony, unable to speak. She had no choice but to place her hand on his neck first, injecting mental power.
But the pain on Mo Yinâs face didn’t lessen at all. He lowered his head as if he were about to cough up blood, yet nothing came out. Catching a glimpse of Xie Qiangâs worried and tense face, he struggled to get up, hoisted Xie Qiang onto his shoulder, and tossed her onto the stone bed.
Then he turned to leave.
Xie Qiang quickly grabbed him. âWhere are you going?â
Mo Yin paused slightly. He turned back, cupped the girlâs face, and bit her lip, rubbing against it fiercely for a moment before running out of the cave with a determined but staggering gait.
Xie Qiang finally realized that it wasn’t Mo Yin who was in trouble, but Hong Que.
An injury that couldn’t be repaired by mental power either meant the wound was constantly being reopened, or… the weapon that caused the wound hadn’t been removed.
Something had pierced Hong Queâs throat.
Realizing this, the expression on Xie Qiangâs face instantly became serious. She jumped off the stone bed, wanting to catch up with Mo Yin, but she was tackled by Tian Lang, who was guarding the entrance. The wolf pinned her down, refusing to let her follow.
âTian Lang! Get out of the way!â Xie Qiang pushed against him, her expression anxious. âWithout me, Hong Que will die!â
An injury to a vital spot capable of hurting an S-class Sentinel had to be at least Zerg King level. Even if Mo Yin rushed there, his attack power would be greatly compromised by the shared sensory pain in his throat!
Tian Lang pinned Xie Qiang down firmly, shaking his head and refusing to let go with his paws: No!
Kittens are fragile and get hurt easily!
Xie Qiang couldn’t move the giant wolf. She felt a wave of frustration and helplessness. Thinking about what Hong Que and Mo Yin might be suffering outside, her heart ached with a dull pain. Anxious, she couldn’t help but pound on Tian Langâs body. âTian Lang, let me go!â
After another futile struggle, her emotions finally erupted. She reached out and grabbed Tian Langâs snout, her face full of fury. âTian Lang, do not make me repeat myself a second time!â
âYing…â Sensing that Xie Qiang was truly enraged, Tian Lang piteously retracted its body, looking at her with a mournful face. âAwoooo…â
Ignoring him, Xie Qiang quickly climbed onto the stone bed and pulled a crimson spear out of a small, inconspicuous hole. It was the Zhu Que Spear that Hong Que had condensed from his mental power.
Xie Qiang took a deep breath, then climbed down and walked toward the right wall of the cave.
Her eyes quickly scanned the map Xiao Hong had pecked out. She turned to ask Tian Lang, âWhere is Mo Yin now? Can you sense where Hong Que is?â
Seeing that she was willing to acknowledge him again, Tian Lang quickly jumped up, bumped his forehead against the Zhu Que Spear, and then actively pointed out two spots.
Hong Queâs position was quite far away. Xie Qiangâs arm trembled, but she forced herself to stay calm. After a moment of careful thought, she pointed to a fork in the road. âWeâll follow this line and go here.â
Tian Lang blinked, then lowered his body.
Xie Qiang flipped onto him cleanly, her fingers gripping the wolf fur on his neck as she lowered her body. She patted Tian Langâs head and said softly, âIf we run into patrolling Zerg, Iâll be counting on you.â
âAwoo!â Tian Lang gave a tough howl, then kicked aside the camouflage hiding the cave and sprinted toward the route Xie Qiang had indicated.
Her luck was good; they didn’t encounter any Zerg on the way to the fork.
She could hear the screeching of Zerg in the distance, as well as the roar of the Zhu Que. Xie Qiang jumped off the wolf, confirmed the direction once more, and then loaded the Zhu Que Spear. She pressed herself against the wall and carefully poked her head out.
Focus…
Mental power surged toward her eyes, and everything before her began to become clear. The minute dust falling in the air and the slender rays of light seemed to be magnified and slowed down more than ten times. She squinted as she looked at the Zhu Que and the Zerg fighting in the distance.
It was clearly not an ordinary Zerg. It had a crawling physique similar to a giant python, its body several dozen feet high. Its shell, which glowed with a faint orchid fluorescence, covered its entire body. Two long antennae drooped from behind its inverted-teardrop-shaped head. Ten slender limbs with a metallic luster looked like wing bones without feathers, six of which were pressed tightly against its bulging abdomen.
It didn’t look like a Zerg King, but rather… the Zerg Empress who bred the swarm.
Hadn’t she disappeared after being heavily wounded by Sen Ji?
To think she would appear hereâ!
Xie Qiangâs heart pounded wildly, but she didn’t have time to be shocked. Her gaze quickly swept the surroundings, and then she saw Hong Que being held high in the air, his throat pierced by one of the Zerg Empressâs pointed limbs.
He wasn’t dead, but he was in great pain. A thin line extended from the Zerg Empressâs abdomen and was inserted into Hong Queâs lungs. A strange blue energy pulsed within the line, seemingly supporting Hong Queâs respiratory function.
The Zerg Empress was using her top three limbs to deal with the Zhu Que in a leisurely manner. Every time the Zhu Que stopped its attack to think of a strategy, she would hold out the limb skewering Hong Que in front of the bird and pull out the blue thread supplying air, letting Hong Que struggle in agony before the Zhu Queâs eyes to provoke it.
She was toying with the Zhu Que.
Using Hong Que.
Xie Qiangâs chest swelled with fury. She gripped the Zhu Que Spear in her hand, her eyes fixed on the Zerg Empress. She was dying to shoot the thing dead.
