Chapter 99: Melting
Feng Shi wore a resentful look.
Fine.
For the sake of Shen Songheās life and the promising life of “slacking off” in the future, he would give it his all!
Feng Shi let go of his nose, removed the jade crown from his head, and placed Wucheng on the shore, preparing to go down into the pool.
Hei Mang was leaning against his leg in the distance, vomiting. He took a moment to look back and asked Feng Shi in shock, “Young friend Feng is going down!?”
Feng Shi gave a miserable laugh and nodded. “Yeah. Iāll have to trouble Senior to keep watch for me outside.”
As he spoke, he lowered his head and tied a golden thread around his waist, then stuffed the other end into Hei Mangās hand, instructing: “Senior, hold onto your five artifacts tightly. Iām going down now.”
Hei Mang held the golden thread, speechless.
Before long, he was so choked by the stench of the Black Pool that he went back to vomiting with tears in his eyes.
Feng Shi turned around and looked at the thick, black, bubbling water. His toes clenched and relaxed, and his jaw ached from clenching his teeth. He rolled his eyes at the stench. Then, resigned to his fate, he pulled out a respirator and goggles he had bought from the system and put them on.
It took quite a while for Qingqing to reappear: [Host is so noble! Iāll remember your kindness on behalf of Hehe! … Gag!]
Feng Shi gave a bitter smile, then closed his eyes. Like someone going to their death, he dove in headfirst.
The water was so thick that progress was difficult.
All around was an endless black. The pool water was scalding hot, and the heavy sense of pressure was suffocating.
Feng Shi took a breath and paddled his arms to swim into the depths.
In such a dark, oppressive, and foul-smelling environment, it was easy to lose all sense of time.
Gradually, one would begin to doubt their own existence.
One would neurotically ponder their own presence.
Was he just a drop of black water in this pool? Was all the memory in his mind just a delusion?
Fortunately, Feng Shi had a system that talked incessantly in his ear, so he didn’t even have a chance to get lost.
[Host, the Huaihuan Grass is even deeper. Keep paddling your legs; don’t stop.] It was clearly Qingqingās voice, speaking while pinching its nose.
Feng Shi, who had just wanted to float in the water for a bit to rest: “…”
If nothing else, taking a nap in this water would probably be quite comfortable, aside from the fact that it might be a bit hot.
[Host, be a bit more serious. Itās very dangerous in this Black Pool, and this is just the beginning.]
Feng Shi paddled forward in a breaststroke, muttering, “I know, I know. Youāre so nagging.”
Qingqing: […] Iām just afraid youāll be scared!
He swam forward for another stretch.
The water before his eyes suddenly distorted rapidly.
Feng Shi paused, thinking his eyes had played tricks on him.
But immediately afterward, a current of water so hot it almost made one cry out in pain hit him in the face.
[Host, thereās a situation!]
Feng Shi hurriedly stopped, struggling to use his arms to shield his face.
Under such water, the resistance was too great. His movements were severely limited and became very slow. His spiritual energy was also being depleted rapidly.
However, the thing that had just passed before him was clearly moving quickly.
Feng Shi thought this was bad.
Could it be that he was going to have to fight a monster so soon?
And a monster that held all the advantages.
Then, without giving him time to think, a massive force suddenly struck his shoulder from behind.
The water was squeezed, letting out a muffled thud.
This blow made Feng Shi suspect his internal organs had been shifted out of place. He couldn’t help but open his mouth and groan in pain.
Since coming to the cultivation world, he had rarely felt this much pain, except for when he was training his soul.
“Fuck…”
There were too many restrictions in this water. Feng Shi didn’t even know what the opponent was or where they were; he had no way to start.
Having no choice, he could only speed up and continue to dive deeper, praying in his heart that the opponent was just passing by and had just struck out out of boredom.
But clearly, the other party had come specifically to warn him.
Seeing that Feng Shi was still swimming into the depths, the opponent seemed to be enraged. They attacked Feng Shi several more times in succession.
Feng Shiās face crumpled in pain. Although he had spiritual energy protecting his body and hadn’t been fatally injured, this wasn’t a long-term solution.
“Qingqing, is there any way to deal with this?”
[Sorry, Host. Since the opponent isn’t a physical entity, the system might not be able to help you…]
Feng Shi was shocked.
Not a physical entity?
Then what could it be?
What else in this cultivation world wasn’t a physical entity?
For a moment, Feng Shi even wondered if he had encountered a ghost.
But just now, he had caught a glimpse of the thing that attacked him. It should have been a tail.
So what exactly was it?
Unknown things could always cause more fear.
Feng Shi knit his brow. While speeding up his descent, he licked some medicinal pills into his mouth to replenish his spiritual energy.
The unknown creature hidden in the shadows became even more anxious upon seeing Feng Shi diving deeper. Its attacks became frequent, attempting to swat Feng Shi away from his downward trajectory.
Feng Shi gritted his teeth and bore them all. With the system’s guidance, his direction hadn’t gone astray either.
After a while, the movement in the waters finally ceased.
Thinking the monster had probably left for some reason, Feng Shi breathed a sigh of relief and stopped to catch his breath.
The deeper the pool went, the hotter it became, to the point it was unbearable. Feng Shi wanted to wipe his sweat, but just as he raised his hand, he realized it was truly unnecessary.
Down he went again.
The black, stagnant water before him suddenly changed color.
From black, it gradually transitioned into red.
Feng Shi was so hot he could barely breathe, and he came to a stop.
He thought the water was simply too hot now.
If the temperature rose any higher, he probably wouldn’t be able to bear it. He could only see if there were any usable mall items.
But just as he clicked on the panel to check, a fiery-red water line crept over silently and coiled around Feng Shiās ankle.
Feng Shi noticed nothing. Just as he was filtering through the items, he suddenly felt his ankle tighten. Immediately afterward, a fierce pulling force yanked him a large distance forward.
“Hiss…” Feng Shi could feel the surrounding temperature rising rapidly, scorching his skin.
“Qing!”
Before Feng Shi could finish his shout, the thing coiled around his foot exerted force again, yanking him violently into the depths.
The black water before his eyes turned into a more transparent orange-red.
Feng Shi endured the scalding pain, slowly realizingāWhat the hell, if this isn’t lava, what is it!
While he was thinking, he was yanked forward again.
Feng Shi hurriedly mobilized his spiritual energy to gather at his fingertips, wanting to cut it, only to find to his horror that it was completely useless.
Just as Qingqing had said, it wasn’t a physical entity.
If he truly went in there, wouldn’t he be turned into water?
Feng Shiās heart tightened.
Down here, he was simply too passive. He could only rely on the system. Thus, he hurriedly opened the panel, preparing to temporarily freeze time.
Who would have thought that the opponent wouldn’t give him a chance at all? They gave him another violent tug.
Feng Shi only had time to let out a fragile syllable before he felt his vision turn entirely red. He instantly lost consciousness.
Only a sliver of chaotic consciousness remained, slowly melting in this water.
