Part 3
When Ning Yunyi closed the door, he had already spread out his spiritual power, isolating all movement and sound in the room. As long as he moved fast enough, he could finish before Zong Ling came downstairs.
He pulled off a special Invisibility Talisman, making his body appear translucent. He suddenly drifted right in front of Mu Jiayi. A pale, bloodless face with pupils as cold and dead as a sunless abyss stared eerily at Mu Jiayi, radiating a terrifying aura. “Mu Jiayi, I’ve come for you. Are you surprised?”
Mu Jiayi saw the enlarged face suddenly appearing before him, and fear made him scream out loud. He had never been this terrified in his life, and he never thought he could produce such a shrill sound.
His voice cracked and shook with pure terror, and by the end, he felt as though something was blocking his throat, making him unable to utter another word.
He wouldn’t be able to forget this face even if he died.
Ning Yunyi… he had come to claim his life, hadn’t he? Otherwise, how could a person appear out of thin air? He must be in a dream, he hadn’t woken up yet! It had to be!
Mu Jiayi trembled violently, his body so limp he couldn’t move at all. He closed his eyes, thinking that when he opened them again, Ning Yunyiās ghost would be gone. But when he opened them again in fear, that face was still there, looking at him with cold indifference, as if looking at a corpse.
A low, chilling voice drifted through the empty room. “You went to such lengths to kill me, but it seems you haven’t gained much benefit. You don’t look any better than I did before my miserable death.”
The semi-transparent face, the grey, bloodless complexion, and that eerie tone made Mu Jiayiās brain feel like it was going to explode.
“Ahhh! Don’t come over! I didn’t mean to kill you! It was because you insisted on taking the attention that belonged to me! Why did you have to compete with me? Why were you luckier than me in everything? I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I’m already this miserable, you’re already dead, don’t show up in the world of the living anymore…” Mu Jiayi was on the verge of collapse. Was this a dream or reality? If it was a dream, why wasn’t he waking up? If it was reality, why wasn’t Zong Ling coming to save him after hearing such a commotion?
Someone save me, I don’t want to be dragged to hell, I don’t want to die yet.
Ning Yunyi suddenly leaned in, his voice dripping with irony. “You’re miserable? Are you as miserable as me? I was betrayed by my best friend, tricked by you and Ji Hao to a trash planet where I died. And you? You used the money Ji Hao cheated out of me to buy shifters on Capital Star and extract their mental power to build a name for yourself… How are you miserable?”
Mu Jiayi didn’t dare look at him. He shook all over, curling into a ball to avoid Ning Yunyiās proximity. “I was wrong, I was really wrong… I was just… just…”
“Just jealous. Jealous that I got into the Capital Star Academy with the top score while you were second. So, out of jealousy, you were bought by the Crown Prince and agreed to cooperate with him to become the Zong family’s matriarch, right? You were willing. Marshal Zong was the most suitable marriage partner in your eyes, but you weren’t satisfied. You were jealous, and you wanted to ruin my reputation at the same time. So, you convinced Zong Ling to invite me again and take the chance to confess to me. You had Zong Ling contact Ji Hao… and you acted out this whole scene together. But what you didn’t expect was that by some twist of fate, you ended up with Zong Ling, and I became the victim of your interests.” Every word Ning Yunyi spoke made Mu Jiayi even more terrified and more certain that Ning Yunyi was a vengeful spirit from hell. Otherwise, how could Ning Yunyi know these hidden secrets?
“Go away! You’re already dead! I really know I was wrong! My legs are already crippled, I’ve already been punished! Please don’t scare me anymore… this isn’t where you belong!” Mu Jiayi had never seen anything like this. He never expected a vengeful ghost to truly come for his life, wu-wu.
“You know you were wrong? Do you really? After all the evil things you did, why should you still keep your good reputation? Did you apologize for my death? Did you ever admit you killed me? You didn’t. Why should I forgive someone like you? I can’t be reincarnated; I can’t rest in peace.” Ning Yunyiās visit had three main purposes. The first was to use his guesses to confirm if the events back then happened as he thought and to confirm if Zong Hao was Xiaomiaoās biological father. If Mu Jiayi didn’t deny it, then his theory was correct.
Second, he needed to leave evidence of his conspiracy with the Crown Prince. From the moment he entered the room, he had been recording Mu Jiayiās video and audio.
Third, he wanted Mu Jiayiās reputation to be utterly destroyed.
Mu Jiayiās legs were useless, so he could only clutch his head, trying not to look at the soul-reaping specter. “I apologize, I apologize! If I apologize, can you go be reincarnated and stop haunting me?”
Ning Yunyi suddenly moved closer. As he did, a wave of coldness washed over Mu Jiayi, as if coming from the depths of hell.
Mu Jiayiās teeth were chattering, making a crick-crack sound. “Please, I don’t want to die… I don’t want to die yet… What do you want?”
Ning Yunyi: “I want your apology. I was clearly killed by you, but because my death was without cause, I can’t be reincarnated. I want you to confess every evil deed you committed against me from start to finish, including how you were instructed by the Crown Prince to plot against Marshal Zong, dragging an innocent person like me into the game, and even killing me… Only then can I find peace, only then can I move on and leave you alone.”
Mu Jiayi was so frozen that his consciousness was fading. To send Ning Yunyi away quickly, he would do whatever he was told without any hesitation. “I am guilty! I deserve to die ten thousand deaths! I shouldn’t have been jealous of you. When the Crown Prince arranged for me to set up Marshal Zong and have a relationship with him, intending for me to become the matriarch and control the family, it had nothing to do with you. But because I wasn’t satisfied, I had Ji Hao use the gathering to drag you into it.
I shouldn’t have tried to ruin your reputation by framing you with Zong Ling, hoping to make you look like you intentionally seduced him so he would hate you! I shouldn’t have hidden everything after the accident occurred, and I shouldn’t have used reverse healing mental attacks on you, who had no mental power, causing that gap in your memory… I shouldn’t have refused to let you go even after you took a leave of absence, having Ji Hao trick you into leaving for the trash planet where you died so miserably.
Wu-wu, I was just jealous. If it had been me and Marshal Zong that night, I would have been the one to miraculously get pregnant with his child. I was afraid that one day the Marshal would find out, or you would remember, and I would lose my chance… With Marshal Zongās character, if he knew about you and the child, you would definitely become the matriarch. How could I be satisfied? I’m sorry, my current state is my own doing… Can you let me go? I really don’t want to die…”
Ning Yunyi frowned as he listened. He hadn’t expected an extra harvest.
It turned out the original hostās memory gap wasn’t due to trauma; it was a deliberate mental attack using reverse healing power by Mu Jiayi to suppress those memories.
If healing power could repair, then reverse healing could cause damage. If… he could find the method of that attack and repair it, would he remember everything?
But he wouldn’t worry about that for now; he already had a general idea of what happened.
Ning Yunyi looked at the trembling Mu Jiayi. “Since you’re so obedient, I won’t take your life…”
Before Mu Jiayi could breathe a sigh of relief, the voice by his ear became cruel and cold. “But someone like you shouldn’t be left around to ruin others.”
Mu Jiayi was stunned. “You said you wouldn’t kill me…”
Ning Yunyi: “I won’t kill you. Iām just making sure you can never do evil again.” Having said that, Ning Yunyi raised his hand and placed his palm on Mu Jiayiās forehead. He quickly extracted all the manās mental power while simultaneously destroying his mental sea. Following this, Mu Jiayiās consciousness drifted further and further away. He lay there and soon closed his eyes, becoming a living vegetable.
