Chapter 69: The Resort
The official beside him continued to talk grandly about the prospects of the resort project, hoping to secure enough investment to drive the local economic development.
“President Lin, please rest assured. Our area has beautiful scenery, a convenient location, and unique natural and cultural landscapes…”
On the surface, Lin Shiyu seemed to be listening intently, but his attention had long since drifted to that familiar back he had seen in the roadside breakfast shop.
When he snapped out of it and realized what he was thinking, he couldn’t help but let out a self-deprecating laugh. He was truly going mad from missing the man. A-Yu should be safely tucked away in the capital right now; how could he possibly appear in this remote southern county?
The assistant beside him checked the time and gave a soft reminder. “President Lin, you have a video conference in an hour.”
Lin Shiyu glanced at his watch and frowned almost imperceptibly.
The official was sharp. Seeing this, he immediately spoke up. “If President Lin has business, please go ahead. I’ll have someone see you back to the hotel.”
“No need. We brought our own car.”
The car was parked nearby. The assistant went back to get it, and a moment later, a pure black car slowly stopped beside the group.
Lin Shiyu got into the car, rolled down the window to wave at the officials, and the vehicle slowly started, making a U-turn back to the hotel.
As they passed that breakfast shop, Lin Shiyu looked out again as if possessed. That overly familiar back was gone; the person must have finished eating and left.
He slowly retracted his gaze and looked down at the chat page on his phone.
Wen Yuhuai had been out of contact for over half a month again. He wouldn’t pick up the phone, and the Wen family said he had gone out for advanced training and couldn’t be contacted at all times.
Lin Shiyu closed his phone with a wooden expression, picked up a document folder from the seat, and began to read.
Wen Yuhuai heard the counter call his number and stood up to get his porridge and buns. As he returned with his food, he happened to see a pure black Phaeton drive by. The key was the Haishi license plate.
He thought back to the “President Lin” he had heard earlier, and his mind couldn’t help but become active. Could it be that he really came here?
But he soon dismissed the idea, finding it somewhat ridiculous. This small county wasn’t far from Haishi to begin with; seeing a Haishi plate wasn’t unusual.
After breakfast, he sat in the shop for a while until the mall finally opened. Wen Yuhuai went in and found a mobile shop to buy a phone—a relatively cheap basic model. After all, he didn’t have much money on him, and he needed to save until he settled down.
Once the phone was bought, Wen Yuhuai began to ponder his living situation. He could stay in a hotel for now, but that wasn’t a long-term solution. His net worth was nothing like it was before; he didn’t have that much money to squander.
However, finding a house wasn’t something that could be done in a day or two. Wen Yuhuai searched for nearby hotels on his phone and finally settled on one with a reasonable price and a decent-looking environment.
By the time he finally settled into the hotel, Wen Yuhuai breathed a sigh of relief. His mood relaxed a little, but alongside that relaxation was a sense of defeat.
Thinking back on this life, he had finally transmigrated as a rich young master, only to be forced into hiding before he could properly enjoy life.
Motherf*cking hell.
But his current situation didn’t allow him to complain further. Wen Yuhuai rubbed his face to cheer himself up, counted his balance to ensure he could at least have a good New Year, and began searching for rental information on various platforms.
Rental listings in the small county were relatively easy to find, and the prices were low. Soon, Wen Yuhuai found a suitable location.
Looking at the photos, the room wasn’t large, but it was orderly and very clean, with a touch of coziness. There were also a few photos of the surrounding environment; the scenery was breathtaking.
The stifling gloom in Wen Yuhuai’s heart dissipated quite a bit upon seeing the beautiful scenery. He poked the landlord to ask for details.
The landlord’s reply was very enthusiastic, and the two soon added each other on WeChat.
It was only then that Wen Yuhuai noticed a drawback of this house: it was far from the city center and in a relatively remote location.
He tactfully expressed this point and asked if the surrounding living facilities were complete.
The landlord replied enthusiastically: [Of course they are! Don’t worry. A resort is about to be built right here. It will only get more prosperous in the future.] [Also, if you decide on a long-term lease, there’s a discount!]
Wen Yuhuai happily replied with an “okay” and made an appointment to see the house the day after tomorrow.
Time slipped away until it was noon. Wen Yuhuai was too lazy to go down for food and simply ordered takeout, finishing his lunch in the room.
His nerves had been wound tight while dealing with those two men. Now that he had finally relaxed, he fell into a deep sleep shortly after eating. When he woke up, the sky outside was turning dark.
Realizing he had been cooped up in the hotel all day, Wen Yuhuai finally decided to go out for a walk and handle dinner at the same time.
Opposite his hotel was the best hotel in town. People were coming and going, and even at this hour, there were many people checking in.
Wen Yuhuai soon looked away, wrapped his coat tight, and walked in another direction toward a snack street.
After wandering the snack street and finally filling his stomach to his satisfaction, Wen Yuhuai let out a burp and slowly made his way back.
As he returned to the hotel, a car happened to stop steadily in front of the hotel opposite him. Wen Yuhuai’s eyes were sharp; he recognized it as the black Phaeton with Haishi plates he had seen that morning.
Curiosity piqued in Wen Yuhuai’s heart. Since he wasn’t in a rush to get back to his room, he simply stood there to see who came out of the car.
The result wasn’t a surprise; a completely strange man stepped out.
Wen Yuhuai retracted his gaze and returned to his hotel. Although it wasn’t as cold as the capital, the night wind here still chilled one to the bone.
On the other side.
The assistant didn’t rush away after getting out of the car. Instead, he smoked a cigarette outside. Once Lin Shiyu finished his call and stepped out from the back seat, the assistant found a gap to ask: “President Lin, are we investing in this resort project?”
Lin Shiyu leaned against the car and lit a cigarette. A spark of crimson flickered at his fingertips, and smoke soon curled up, blurring his deep, handsome features.
After a moment, those dark eyes narrowed slightly, and his voice carried a hint of raspiness. “Invest. Such a good place, why wouldn’t we invest?”
