Chapter 12: Not a Single Good Person in the Ji Family!
“Let me in! I’m your Ji-zong’s mother-in-law! You don’t want your jobs anymore? You actually dare to stop me?!”
Standing at the door was a middle-aged woman with heavy makeup and a curvaceous figure. Her golden curls fell over her forehead in waves.
Chen Ma and another maid tried their best to keep her out, refusing with a very firm attitude:
“Sorry. Without Ji-zong’s permission, we won’t let anyone into the villa. Even if you are the mother-in-law, it won’t do.”
“Aiyee, you bunch of blockheads! Careful, or I’ll have my son-in-law fire you! I’ll make you live on the north wind!”
Zhou Manxiang stood with one hand on her hip and the other against the door. She yelled aggressively toward the inside:
“Jian An! You ungrateful wolf! Get out here!”
“Who is making a scene outside?”
A cold male voice came from inside the house.
Chen Ma immediately retreated to the door and said to the person behind her, “Ji-zong, Mr. Jian’s mother is here.”
Ji Songting’s face instantly darkened. A trace of rage flashed in his tired eyes as he waved for the maid to step back.
For Jian An to be able to enter the Ji family legitimately, Zhou Manxiang could be considered one of the biggest “contributors.”
He had already been made unhappy by Jian An last night, and seeing the culprit early this morning only intensified his irritation.
“What are you doing here?”
When Zhou Manxiang saw that the person coming was her “Golden Turtle” son-in-law, her arrogant and unreasonable attitude shifted to one of weakness and pity.
Her eyes darted around as her lips curled into a wicked, fawning smirk. “Little Ji, Mom has recently…”
Before she could finish, she was angrily interrupted by Ji Songting: “Don’t call my name. Also, my mother is already dead!”
The sudden outburst startled Zhou Manxiang. She hurriedly slapped her own face twice and corrected herself:
“I’m sorry, Ji-zong! I misspoke!”
But with the Young Master of the Ji family, worth billions, standing right in front of her, how could she pass up a chance to ask for money!
“Ji-zong, I’ve just run out of money lately, and that ungrateful wolf Jian An won’t give me any. So, you see…?”
Hearing this, Ji Songting let out a cold snort.
As expected, this mother and son are of the same breed.
Under Zhou Manxiang’s uneasy gaze, his expression remained unchanged. He casually adjusted his sleeves and then made a path for her to enter the house, saying:
“Come in.”
Zhou Manxiang immediately followed. Her thick layer of powder couldn’t hide the twitching, distorted joy on her face.
Her son had been married for three years, and he had never let her set foot in the Ji family once. Today, she finally got in.
Even though she had seen high-society life before, the luxurious yet tasteful classical decor in the villa still made her gasp in surprise.
It’s truly a bargain for that bitch Jian An!
Zhou Manxiang secretly lamented that her prime had passed; otherwise, with her looks from back then, being the Mistress of the Ji family would have been more than enough.
Just as she was about to sit on the sofa, she suddenly noticed the man’s sharp gaze and could only stand to the side with a fawning smile.
Ji Songting squinted his eyes lazily. His long fingertips tapped on the sofa armrest, his voice light and cold:
“What do you want money for? Gambling?”
Zhou Manxiang clutched her handbag and nodded in admission, letting out two “hehe” awkward laughs.
Seeing this, Ji Songting raised an eyebrow. He didn’t beat around the bush and asked directly:
“Then that’s it. How much?”
Hearing that there was hope, the money-grubbing woman rubbed her hands excitedly, not caring if it was too good to be true.
She first symbolically held up five fingers. But feeling it wasn’t enough, she immediately changed her gesture and said:
“800,000.”
Although 800,000 was a small sum for Ji Songting, Chen Ma—who had worked for the Ji family for over twenty years and had seen the world—was still shocked.
The woman before them, claiming to be an in-law of the Ji family, was truly “opening a lion’s mouth” (獅子大開口). She was shameless, actually daring to ask for 800,000 in one go?!
“Young Master, this…”
Chen Ma turned to look at the nonchalant Ji Songting, then glared at the woman, reminding her:
“The Ji family’s money doesn’t blow in on the wind. It’s not good to ask for so much at once, is it? Besides, doing this will only make things more difficult for Mr. Jian.”
Unexpectedly, Zhou Manxiang didn’t care. She turned and scolded her: “I’m talking to my son-in-law. Why is a servant like you butt-in? You have no manners at all!”
Chen Ma didn’t take it lying down and barked back: “I’ve worked for the Ji family for decades. I only listen to the Master and the Young Master. What kind of thing are you? Are you even worthy of calling me a servant?”
Ji Songting’s ears were starting to ache from the noise. He pointed toward the kitchen and said with ambiguous intent:
“Chen Ma, go. Get the money.”
“Yes, Young Master. I’ll go right now.”
Chen Ma nodded understandingly and shot another fierce glare at the arrogant woman.
The oblivious Zhou Manxiang was still immersed in the 800,000 she had so easily obtained. Her mind was already calculating how to use this wealth to have a triumphant moment at the casino.
The next second, several maids suddenly surrounded her from behind. She had no chance to react before her arms were seized, and she was kicked behind the knees, falling onto the floor.
“What are you doing?! Let me go!”
Zhou Manxiang struggled, confused. Just as she was about to call for her son-in-law’s help, a fruit knife, sharp as a mirror, appeared before her eyes. She could even see her own terrified face in it.
“Don’t you love gambling?”
Ji Songting remained seated calmly, leaning forward slightly. He asked with interest:
“Then, if I cut off all your fingers, what will you use to gamble? Your feet? And what if your feet are gone too?”
Hearing these madman-like words, Zhou Manxiang was so terrified she went limp on the floor, her entire body shaking incessantly.
She burst into tears, pleading incoherently:
“I… I don’t want the money anymore. Please… let me go… Don’t chop off my hands!”
She hadn’t believed Ji Songting was a madman before, but she believed it now. The other man truly was capable of anything!
“Do it.”
“Yes, Young Master. Leave it to me.”
Chen Ma grabbed one of her arms, and the blade moved toward the finger wearing a diamond ring. “Don’t be afraid, Mother-in-law. I’ll just make a light cut. It won’t hurt.”
The cold back of the blade pressed against her fingers. Zhou Manxiang closed her eyes in terror, her lips twitching violently. She couldn’t speak.
Not a single person in the Ji family is good!
“Stop it! Don’t touch my mom…!”
Jian An stumbled as he ran down the stairs. He almost fell and was stopped by the butler before he could reach them.
Hearing the familiar voice, Zhou Manxiang snapped her eyes open and cried out through her tears: “Xiao An, save me! Your husband wants to cut off my fingers!”
“Mom, I already gave you money. Why did you have to come to the Ji family…?”
Jian An forcefully broke free from the butler’s grip and then knelt before Ji Songting.
He looked the man in the eyes and said sorrowfully:
“Songting, let my mom go. She hasn’t done anything. If you want to hate someone, hate me alone.”
Hearing this, Ji Songting looked at him. His narrow eyes were full of a smile—affectionate yet cold—as he mocked:
“Tsk. You really are filial, aren’t you? Are you finally experiencing the feeling of losing a mother? Three years ago, I wanted to make you feel the same pain I did. But you hid this woman quite well; I never found the chance. Now it’s perfect—she delivered herself to the door for the sake of money.”
After the other man said this, Jian An felt he was becoming more and more confused. After all his careful protection, it was actually because he had given his mother too little money that she had walked into the trap herself.
He turned his head to look at the terrified, soul-shaken Zhou Manxiang. His voice choked as he asked:
“Then… if I die, will you let my mom go? Will you stop making trouble for her?”
Ji Songting let out a snort from his nose. “A hypocritical and selfish person like you would sacrifice your life for a cause? How ridiculous.”
The next moment, the smile on his face vanished. He grabbed Jian An’s wrist, the cold fury in his eyes like a poison. He said with great interest:
“Then why don’t you try dying and see?”
