I Heard I’m the Only Healing Cub in the Interstellar Chapter 18

Chapter 18: A Strange Sensation of Faint Death

“A-Mei, you’ve been working hard lately, haven’t you? Look, you’ve got dark circles under your eyes.” The girl before her was one of the maids who had taken the initiative to come and support her on the night the Young Master had his high heat.

“It’s nothing. I’ll just apply some face cream when I get back.” A-Mei smiled faintly and unobtrusively avoided the other maid’s approach.

“Here, I heard the scent of this flower helps with sleep. Take a few branches back for your vase.” The maid turned and cut several branches of flowers that looked like blue wind chimes and handed them to A-Mei, her tone full of concern.

“Ruoduoya, thank you for the flowers, but I have to take care of the Young Master now. The Young Master is a herbivorous cub; his constitution isn’t as sturdy as a carnivorous cub. The healer has warned repeatedly not to bring any extra scents.”

“Heavens, is that so? A-Mei, luckily you reminded me, otherwise I would have made a huge mistake this time!” Ruoduoya revealed a look of shock, her deer-like eyes filled with guilt. She hurriedly moved the flowers away, for fear of letting A-Mei take away a single trace of pollen.

A-Mei comforted her for a few moments, saying she would change her clothes when she got back. Ruoduoya said considerately, “Then you should hurry back; the Young Master can’t be left alone.”

After A-Mei returned to her residence, she immediately took off her clothes to check them. Her black work uniform was clean, with no unknown substances attached. A-Mei suppressed the doubt in her heart, disinfected her entire body, and then went to the kitchen to fetch the cub’s complementary food.

After passing through three maze-like corridors, she had just walked into the spacious courtyard when she heard the cub’s cheerful “milk voice.”

“Ying-ying~~”

The cub was sitting on an animal. It was snow-white all over with long limbs and horns on its head. In the area of its belly where no fur grew, an organ resembling a pink crystal heart was exposed. This was the Xingma Beast from the border stars—a creature with a gentle temperament and the “gift” Big Brother Shen had spoken of.

The little cub was active but disliked too much contact with others. Big Brother Shen had originally thought of finding a mechanical master he knew to build a transport robot. However, while handling the riot, he accidentally saw a Xingma Beast in an interstellar merchant’s cage. Feeling that the color of its heart was the same as the cub’s fur, he immediately bought it and had it sent to the Prime Star city.

Once an adult, the Xingma Beast was only a meter long. It wouldn’t grow any further, making it perfect for use as a transport tool for the cub. After Shen Lin took the initiative to link with the Xingma Beast’s mental sea, the two had already developed a preliminary rapport.

“Young Master, today’s complementary food is Milk Mushroom slices stewed with Gulu-beast.”

“Ying~” Eat!

The cub patted the Xingma Beast’s head, and the latter knelt forward obediently. The Ghost Vine, which was wrapped around its neck as a leash, released its grip and retracted into the pink gemstone bracelet.

Among the maids following behind A-Mei, one brought warm water, and another wrung out a soft cloth to wipe the cub, cleaning his sweat and hands. Another maid brought over a soft small bed and placed the cub inside. The maids gathered around the cub served him dedicatedly. Once he was dry and refreshed, he patted the railing built around the edge of the small bed, expressing his need to eat.

A-Mei had cared for the little cub for the longest time, and the person and cub had a rapport; things were no longer as clumsy as they used to be. After a bowl of food was finished, the cub patted his little belly and pushed away the offered food. A-Mei obediently put down the spoon. The cub tilted his head. A-Mei helped wipe his mouth.

With food in his belly, the cub was in the mood to take the Xingma Beast to explore the corners of the small castle. Occasionally, he picked up an inconspicuous stone or a leaf. He picked up a whole bunch of useful and useless things. Seeing that the bag hanging from the Xingma Beast was full, he returned with a full load.

Once he reached his own room, Shen Lin didn’t allow A-Mei and the others to enter. He climbed into the nest and flipped over one of the energy stones. Hidden beneath it were the things he had collected recently.

Wandering was not just something to be said; one had to make sufficient preparations. Shen Lin had moved many things back and forth to his own residence, checking one by one which things could be used and which were trash. The little cub sorted them one by one.

The cub had hollowed out a hole beneath the energy stones, and there was already a bulging small bag inside. Shen Lin packed the unwanted trash back into the trash bag, filled the hole, grabbed a handful of plush grass, and stuffed it into the gaps between the energy stones. After finishing all this, Shen Lin let out a small yawn. Having been busy all morning, it was time for the cub’s nap. Seeing no more movement inside, A-Mei pushed the door open quietly, tucked the cub in, and left with a bag of trash.

“A-Mei, I heard the Young Master has recently fallen in love with picking up trash—is it true?” Ruoduoya’s gossiping heart was piqued, and she asked her friend curiously.

“He’s just a child; he always has many novel ideas about the outside world.”

“Hahaha, it sounds right when you put it that way. Children are always full of curiosity about the outside world. Like when I was little, I loved catching Gege-frogs to scare my dad.”

The two didn’t talk for long before they both went off to busy themselves with their own work.

Shen Zexi returned home, and before she even entered her study, she noticed something was wrong. She leaned down and picked up the yellow-and-green leaf, tilting her head to ask, “Who was in my room earlier?”

The attendant thought for a moment. “The Young Master came by at noon. Knowing you weren’t here, he went back.”

Shen Zexi turned the leaf over in her hand as she walked into the study. She opened a drawer and placed the leaf into a precision box with a preservation function. Besides the leaf, there was also a brilliant pink rose, a strangely shaped stone, and some tree roots of different colors inside the box. Every day when she returned, Shen Zexi would take a walk around her residence, and the things she obtained were never the same. Since she and her big brother had given him gifts, the cub seemed to have unlocked some kind of genetic attribute and had begun to give gifts in different ways as well.

A leaf might be worthless in the eyes of an adult, but in the eyes of a cub, these things were priceless. Shen Zexi closed the lid, calculating in her heart which of her private assets were suitable for the cub.

The cub squatted in a corner of the small garden, watching a jewel beetle fly from one small tree to another. Several black-pearl-like dots accented its crimson shell, and other small things were hiding under the rotting leaves. This small woods was actually a miniature ecological zone.

The cub’s gaze had already been attracted by the creatures of the small woods. Occasionally, he picked up something that caught his eye and stuffed it into the small bag hanging in front of the Xingma Beast’s neck. The maids watching from the side tactfully didn’t disturb him.

“Oh, A-Mei, the Young Master came to the garden to play today?” Ruoduoya’s sharp eyes saw the “milk ball” in a corner of the garden. Having finished pruning the flowers, she took a moment to chat with A-Mei nearby.

“En.” Today, A-Mei didn’t have much to say. Perhaps A-Mei didn’t like chatting while working. Seeing that she didn’t want to say more, Ruoduoya turned away dejectedly and continued with her own work.

Shen Lin turned around and saw his head maid talking to a petite maid. He had wanted to go over and listen to some gossip, but unfortunately, the two stopped talking after only a couple of sentences. Not hearing any gossip, Shen Lin felt a bit of a pity. On the way back, he picked up several wind chime flowers.

Taking advantage of the head maid’s inattention, he secretly stuffed a flower into his mouth. The cub hadn’t grown teeth yet, so he could only use his upper and lower gums to grind the juice out of the flower.

Pui~

The taste was strange, but it was edible. Shen Lin stuffed another flower into his mouth.

Seeing its little master secretly eating things, the Ghost Vine curiously curled around a flower and delivered it into its root system. The Ghost Vine’s entire vine, including its leaves, went stiff.

In a literal sense. His “companion” vine seemed to have “died” a little.
