I Raised a Cub in the Military Academy Chapter 21.1

Chapter 21: Mine part 1

Yun Yingzhi stared at the shattered bowl and chopsticks for a moment, then looked down at his own hands.

He blinked, thinking for a second, and suddenly, cheerful little flowers bloomed in the air around him. He was delighted by his own strength. In a buoyant mood, he headed upstairs, planning to sleep until he woke up naturally.

Suddenly, his personal optical computer chimed with a notification.

Yun Yingzhi rubbed his sleepy eyes; it was Alvin calling.

He accepted the connection.

The video linked, and on the other end of the projection, Alvin was sitting on a beach wearing a tropical shirt with a glass of wine in his hand. He looked exceptionally relaxed.

Alvin looked Yun Yingzhi up and down, his brow suddenly furrowing. “Yingzhi, what happened?”

At first, Yun Yingzhi didn’t understand what he meant.

Alvin continued, his voice full of concern, “Why do you look so haggard?”

Yun Yingzhi paused, then shook his head, explaining the surprise night training sessions he’d endured for the past two consecutive nights.

Immediately, Alvin’s gaze turned into one of pure heartache. “Mrs. Yun is really something… Our Zhizhi’s second form is a little white rabbit. I truly don’t understand why she insists on you attending a military academy.”

Yun Yingzhi sighed.

“Our Zhizhi has worked so hard,” Alvin said. He thought to himself that it was just like their Yingzhi—even after a day of rest, he couldn’t recover from two missed nights of sleep. He looked far too exhausted.

For a child like this, every day at the military academy must be a challenge to his very limits. It was just too difficult.

Alvin watched Yun Yingzhi with pitying eyes.

A middle-aged man sitting with Alvin asked, “Alvin, what’s wrong? Why are you sighing like that?”

Alvin let out another sigh. “It’s about Yinghui’s younger brother, little Zhizhi.”

Yun Yingzhi was a bit speechless. He was nineteen now; he hadn’t been a “little kid” for years.

The middle-aged man spoke up, “I remember, I remember! That little crybaby. I recall every time I went to see you, that little crybaby was always wailing, hahaha…”

Yun Yingzhi’s cheeks flushed a bright red, feeling embarrassed.

Recalling the past, the smile on Alvin’s face deepened. “Yes, that very same little Zhizhi. He’s currently a student at Fanse Academy.” He sighed again before continuing, “As you know, his second form is a little white rabbit with zero combat power. Fanse Academy held surprise night drills for two nights in a row in the early hours. It’s just too much for Zhizhi to handle.”

Following Alvin’s lead, the middle-aged man and several others joined the conversation.

Without exception, they all felt a wave of sympathy for the General’s Manor’s Yun Yingzhi. They found General Yun and his wife quite baffling. Their child was clearly a cute, precious little rabbit; how could they throw such a tiny darling into a great den of tigers, leopards, bears, and lions?

It was truly pushing the kid too hard.

Hearing them call him “little kid” over and over made Yun Yingzhi feel both embarrassed and subtly humiliated. His cheeks felt like they were burning.

He hurriedly interrupted their awkward topic, asking Alvin why he had suddenly called. Was there something he needed?

He successfully diverted Alvin’s attention.

Despite the change in subject, Alvin’s gaze remained full of pity. “It’s like this: before I left the Capital Star, I finished three models of source weapons. I forgot to send them out back then. Someone from the military is coming to collect them today, but currently, only you have access permissions for the studio.”

Yun Yingzhi nodded, immediately understanding Alvin’s meaning.

Every private source weapon studio was vital to a creator. They often contained handwritten notes and records.

Like Alvin, he preferred recording inspirations on paper rather than using a digital terminal; every single record was incredibly precious.

To protect privacy, the studio was equipped with security measures that required authorized personnel to enter.

Yun Yingzhi said, “Master, should I go to the studio to hand over those three source weapons?”

Alvin nodded. “I’m sorry, Zhizhi baby. You’re already so tired, yet I have to trouble you.”

Yun Yingzhi thought to himself that it was actually just two nights of training. Master’s reaction was a bit much. He’d heard from upperclassmen that training sessions could sometimes last for three weeks straight.

Despite his thoughts, he said, “Master, it’s fine. I’m doing great right now.” He was just really sleepy.

“Nonsense! How could you be fine?” Alvin countered. “You haven’t slept for two nights and you’ve been doing training that your body can’t handle!” The more he spoke, the more his heart ached.

Yun Yingzhi blinked his large black eyes. He had originally thought he was just sleepy, but after hearing Alvin’s exaggerated concern, he suddenly felt that he might actually be in bad shape. After a moment of thought, he said, “Master, it’s okay. I’m just going to help you hand over three source weapons.”

Alvin nodded. “Then I’ll have to trouble you, Zhizhi.”

“Master, what time will the military people arrive?” Yun Yingzhi asked.

“Ten o’clock,” Alvin replied.

Yun Yingzhi checked the time.

It was almost nine o’clock. If he prepared and left now, he would arrive at the studio around ten. “Master, then I’ll get ready and head over now.”

Alvin paused, then added, “Zhizhi, the military will also be bringing a batch of source weapon manufacturing materials. Help me take inventory and receive them, alright?”

Hearing the words “source weapon manufacturing materials,” Yun Yingzhi’s eyes lit up. “Master, what grade are the materials?” He was especially excited.

For many years, Alvin had tacitly allowed Yun Yingzhi to use any materials in the studio.

Of course, Yun Yingzhi had to pay for them, but he only had to pay half the market price. This was a discount even students in the Source Weapon Manufacturing Department at Fanse Academy couldn’t dream of.

Alvin said, “Grade six to grade ten materials.”

Yun Yingzhi’s eyes darted around. “Are there any materials in there I can’t use?”

The smile on Alvin’s face deepened. “None. You can use whatever you like.”

Yun Yingzhi thanked him politely, happy little flowers blooming around him again. He looked thrilled.

After hanging up, Yun Yingzhi contacted Butler Zhang to say he was heading out.

Butler Zhang replied immediately, saying he would have a car ready on time.

Yun Yingzhi changed into casual clothes and walked out of his room. Outside the villa, a hovercar was already parked at the door.

He hopped in.

The hovercar sped toward Alvin’s studio.

At 9:50 AM, Yun Yingzhi arrived.

Opening the studio door, he glanced around.

The material racks were already stocked with many items. Yun Yingzhi’s first thought was: what kind of source weapon could he make with these?

He shook his head, clearing out the thoughts of “making source weapons” that were flooding his brain, and took out the three bracelet-style source weapons Alvin had previously crafted.

At ten o’clock sharp, there was a knock on the door.

Yun Yingzhi opened the door and began the handover.

Crate after crate of materials were moved into the studio—sixteen in total.

The value of these materials alone could be called astronomical.

The soldier in uniform had a stern expression. He sent the manifest to Yun Yingzhi for inventory.

Once Yun Yingzhi confirmed everything was correct, he signed his name on the holographic screen and handed the three source weapons to the officer.

The group left, leaving Yun Yingzhi staring at the room full of materials with sparkling eyes.

There was a saying in the world of source weapon manufacturing: to a creator, the best quality materials were their lovers.

Yun Yingzhi was currently looking at the crates with an incredibly tender gaze.

He forced himself to look away from the pile of materials and called Alvin to inform him the handover was complete.

Alvin smiled and said, “Zhizhi, just leave those materials where they are. If there’s anything you want to use, go ahead.” He paused, then added, “There are a lot of materials. I’ll find someone to organize them when I get back. Your body is weak, so don’t do it yourself.”

Yun Yingzhi shook his head. “It’s okay! I can do it!” He felt he was up to the task.

Alvin frowned and repeatedly told him not to push himself before they hung up.

Yun Yingzhi looked at the materials. He didn’t feel tired at all, nor did he find organizing them a chore. In fact, his sleepiness had vanished. With a light step, he began to put all his lovers—oh, no, materials—onto the racks one by one.

From the past until now, this was the first time he was organizing the materials himself.

Alvin’s studio had apprentices. When Alvin was around, they handled all the trivial tasks, and Yun Yingzhi never had to lift a finger.

Yun Yingzhi moved the materials one by one onto the racks with surprising speed. Even materials weighing over a hundred pounds were carried with ease. He showed absolutely no self-awareness of being a “frail little white rabbit.”
