Chapter 94: A Cool Appearance
“Shen Yu requests entry. Open the door?”
“Shen Yu requests entry. Open the door?”
The repeated mechanical voices at this moment felt like a death knell.
Under the anxious background sound, this kiss was also excessively long, kissing Chi Wan until her whole body trembled and her legs felt weak.
The machine voice sounded again:
“Message from Shen Yu: Guide Chi Wan, it’s been so long, are you okay? That stinky snake Qi Ye didn’t do anything to you, right?”
In the background, Shi Ye’s calm, husky voice was indifferent:
“Just break down the door.”
An alarm bell immediately went off in Chi Wan’s heart.
The softness on her lips also paused.
Then.
“BANG—!!!”
…
Because the soothing room door was destroyed, it alarmed many Sentinels and people from the Maintenance Department who came to watch. Chi Wan took the opportunity to run away.
She went to the Contribution Point Exchange Building without stopping and exchanged all her contribution points for four crates of Energy Concentration Liquid. Amidst the System’s cheering, she worked hard to absorb them all. Her energy value directly broke through, successfully reaching SSS-rank Level One.
Afterward, she took various small paths to the Alliance’s Personnel Assignment Department, deciding to recruit some Sentinels to fight alone.
“What? Guide Chi Wan, you mean you won’t follow any Commander’s team and will instead create a team yourself?”
Chi Wan nodded solemnly: “Yes.”
The person in charge hesitated for a moment, then nodded respectfully:
“It’s possible, but…”
As he spoke, he swept his gaze over the group of Sentinels behind him, saying awkwardly:
“Those with ability have long since entered the various bases, and the second-best have also entered the Alliance’s General Affairs Department.”
“The ones left in the Personnel Assignment Department now are all just some ‘crooked melons and split dates’…”
Some were even about to be returned.
This, this, this… can they really protect the Alliance’s noble Guide?
Chi Wan’s gaze swept behind him.
A large group of Sentinels stopped what they were doing and looked toward her with faces full of anticipation.
Only… those gazes… didn’t look very smart.
Her little face looked bitter. Forget it, if they weren’t smart, so be it. She would just work harder; she was going for the sake of training anyway.
With this thought, she randomly pointed at one spot:
“That team will do.”
Then she thanked him politely: “Thank you for your hard work.”
“It’s no trouble, it’s my duty!”
The person in charge immediately processed the paperwork for Chi Wan.
As he watched her and over a dozen Sentinels leave, he seemed to suddenly think of something. He scrolled quickly on the star-screen and finally found the detailed information on that small team just now—
Lion-Head Snake-Tail Squad, recruited from Ryan Town on Planet L-2.
Main member information:
Shi Da: Team Captain, S-rank Sentinel.
Shi Er: Vice-Captain, A-rank Sentinel.
Special Note: Recruited by accident; later found to have truly low ability. The Federation is considering dismissal.
His heart skipped a beat.
It’s over. Isn’t this the very worst team?
He just wanted to call out to Chi Wan to have her reconsider, but he found she was already gone.
…
“Let’s set off!”
Chi Wan sat in the driver’s seat, her voice full of energy.
“Alright!”
Over a dozen Sentinels poured into the car cabin all at once.
“Bang!”
“Bang!”
“Bang!”
Three hit their heads, and one tripped and fell.
Chi Wan, seeing this through the rearview mirror, furrowed her brow.
Immediately, she comforted herself in her heart.
It’s fine, it’s fine. There’s no hurdle in life that can’t be crossed.
Seeing that the personnel were all gathered, she stepped on the gas and quickly drove toward the exploration zone.
As the Lost Sea was broken, the revealed area had undergone bombardment for over two days. At this moment, it had become a public exploration zone; any Sentinel could go and explore, and the rewards were their own.
She just happened to take this opportunity to go and train.
About two hours later, Chi Wan finally reached the nearest zone.
Faintly, some Alliance vehicles and Sentinels could be seen here.
This was a zone with a difficulty level that wasn’t high; it was most suitable to start exploration from here.
Chi Wan was the first to get out of the car. Unlike other Sentinels who had weapons and props hanging all over their waists and wrists, she went into battle light, holding only a Spirit Snake 6-88 in her hand. Other tools were in her space.
“Everyone, there’s no need to be nervous. We’ll fight if we can win, and run if we can’t.”
“Okay, Guide Chi Wan!”
“No problem!”
“Rest assured, Guide Chi Wan, we will definitely protect you!”
Half an hour later.
Chi Wan was fighting until she was covered in thin sweat. With a wave of her hand, her SSS-rank surging silver energy swept across an area like a silver starlit river, instantly absorbing the essence of a cluster of pollutants!
Those pollutants collapsed to the ground before they could even get close, their essence having been taken.
However, as she went deeper, the surrounding pollutant mist began to grow thick.
Chi Wan, panting, couldn’t see the figures of Shi Da and the others. She looked back in confusion.
She saw them huddled together, looking a bit timid and not daring to step forward:
“Guide Chi Wan, it… it seems more dangerous up ahead. Should we turn back?”
Chi Wan kept a serious little face:
“The more dangerous it is, the more beneficial it is for progress. How can we improve if we stop?”
She, a Guide, wasn’t even afraid. For a time, Shi Da and the others were ashamed. They immediately plucked up their courage and rushed forward:
“Guide Chi Wan is right! Brothers, charge! Don’t be cowards!”
Unexpectedly, a massive energy fluctuation suddenly surged from within the mist!
Accompanied by the terrifying roars of pollutants, it caused Shi Da and the others, who had just stepped forward, to freeze in place, their legs trembling uncontrollably.
“Disperse! Use the terrain to hide! Open fire!”
Chi Wan gave emergency commands, quickly flashing behind a withered tree. Her mental power quickly captured the pollutant’s movements, and she fired rapidly and accurately.
But no matter how calm and brave she was, this group of Sentinels didn’t trust her.
It was as if the stereotype of a Guide being fragile was carved into their bones. The despairing Sentinels began to wail.
Shi Er had a sudden flash of inspiration: “Can’t Guide Chi Wan summon Commander Yun?”
This single sentence was like a life-saving straw. The Sentinels started talking all at once, everyone calling for Chi Wan to summon Yun Qi.
Yun Qi, Yun Qi, Yun Qi.
The name filled Chi Wan’s head.
She grew angry.
Blue waves rose from the level ground!
The ethereal whale cry sounded like heavenly music.
In Chi Wan’s wide-opened eyes, those waves overturned the black pollutants charging over, and then blue energy surged within the waves!
Yun Qi, in his deep blue combat suit, seemed to descend from the sky. Wherever his fish-bone blade broke through, all pollutants were killed!
Such a shocking and cool entrance scene left the Sentinels of the Lion-Head Snake-Tail Squad dazed.
Chi Wan was also stunned for a second.
The seawater receded. Yun Qi looked at Chi Wan behind the withered tree, not saying a word.
Fortunately…
Since that time, he had remained alert every moment, even sleeping in his full combat suit to prevent her sudden summons.
Translator’s Note
“Lion-Head Snake-Tail Squad” (虎頭蛇尾隊) is actually a pun on the idiom “Hutou Shewei,” which means “starting with a tiger’s head but ending with a snake’s tail”—basically, a great start but a weak finish. It perfectly describes this group of underachieving Sentinels!
And Yun Qi sleeping in his combat suit just in case… poor guy! He’s literally on call 24/7 as her “Sea God” summon.
