Chapter 51: Abnormal Species
Chi Yuheng stared at him, his eyes filled with a warm hue. “Friends who sleep in the same bed, of course.”
Ye Ran: “…”
This man just canât let that go, can he?
In the first round, everyone had folded a finger. Ye Tingyun hadn’t expected his casual comment to actually land.
The second person to speak was Xu Zhaoli. This man was even more straight-laced than Chi Yuheng. If he hadn’t been considering acquiring the bar, he probably wouldn’t have stepped foot into a place like this.
When it came to games, he was even more of a black hole. In school, his head was filled with nothing but studying; after graduation, it was nothing but work.
Xu Zhaoliâs daily life could be summarized as: eating, sleeping, working, and disciplining Xu Huijiang.
Of course, Xu Huijiang was the variable. When he wasn’t causing trouble, Xu Zhaoli only had three things to do.
Everyone waited for Xu Zhaoli. The CEO poured himself a glass of wine and spoke nonchalantly, “My Gaokao score was 699.”
“Holy shit!” Ye Ran barked out in shock.
After his exclamation, he immediately looked at Xu Huijiang. Xu Huijiang had a calm expression as he folded down a finger.
Even though they were biological brothers, his brotherâs superiority was an absolute, soul-crushing defeat.
Ye Ran shifted his weight and leaned toward Xu Huijiang, whispering, “What kind of species is your brother? How did he get such a high score?”
Xu Huijiang replied, “An abnormal species.”
Ye Ran expressed his total agreement with Xu Huijiangâs answer.
The reason he and Xu Huijiang could be friendsâaside from the fact that their personalities combined to cause even more troubleâwas that whenever exam results came out, they were guaranteed to be scolded together.
They were a true embodiment of ‘sharing trials and tribulations.’ While others were ‘666’ in terms of being awesome, he was also ‘666.’
As in, six marks for every subject.
Back in school, tutoring Ye Ran had cost Chi Yuheng a great deal of effort. No matter what difficulty he encountered in business, CEO Chi could always find a way to solve it, but when he faced Ye Ranâs studies, he could only keep a smile on his face while suppressing the fire in his heart, telling himself to be patient, and then patient again.
I raised him myself. No matter what, I can’t just throw him out.
In the end, Ye Ran finally managed to get into Jing University with the minimum passing score.
Therefore, Ye Ran couldn’t even begin to compare himself to a top student like Xu Zhaoli. He folded his finger very decisively.
However, the person beside him didn’t budge. Ye Ran glanced at Chi Yuheng. “Why aren’t you folding your finger?”
This man was very strange. He folded when he shouldn’t, and didn’t fold when he should.
Chi Yuheng answered slowly, “My Gaokao score was 726.”
Ye Ran: “!!!”
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!!!
Chi Yuheng was even more of a freak than Xu Zhaoli!
Seeing Ye Ranâs shock, Xu Huijiang was a bit confused. “You two live under the same roof. You didn’t know his Gaokao score?”
In a family with a student, something like the Gaokao should be the focus of everyoneâs attention.
Even in wealthy families with established businesses, where they could choose to study abroad without taking the domestic Gaokao, there seemed to be a tacit understanding that only by going through the battlefield of the Gaokao and achieving results could one have the foundation to weather the storms of the business world later.
Ye Ran was momentarily speechless by Xu Huijiangâs question.
He really hadn’t paid attention to Chi Yuhengâs past.
In his perception, Chi Yuheng had always been the one looking after him and cleaning up his messes. That man seemed to be able to handle everything perfectly; he never needed anyone else to worry.
After his parents passed away, Grandfather believed that Chi Yuheng could inherit the family business.
Little Chi Youchu relied on his eldest brother, and Ye Ran needed him too. Chi Yuheng had always been the person who was needed.
His grades had to be excellent. His shoulders had to be able to support the entire Chi family and the company.
It seemed that no one had ever asked him if he was tired, or if all of this was what he actually wanted.
Thinking back, the year of Chi Yuhengâs Gaokao had been very quiet. It was so quiet that no one even knew he was taking the exam. Then he went to university, as if it were a perfectly natural transition.
As the only person in this round who didn’t fold a fingerâand who had even surpassed Xu Zhaoli by an absolute marginâChi Yuheng looked at Ye Ran and raised an eyebrow slightly, as if to say, I didn’t embarrass you, did I?
There was no joy on Ye Ranâs face. He didn’t even look him in the eye as he tossed out a question, “Chi Yuheng, are you hot?”
“Huh?” Chi Yuheng was stunned by the irrelevant question.
Suddenly, he didn’t know how to answer. It was summer; should he be hot or not?
Chi Yuheng was wearing a simple black casual shirt with subtle pinstripes, his sleeves rolled up to his forearms. They were all staying on the terrace, and the heat of the summer night was being swept away by the cool sea breeze.
It wasn’t exactly hot; the temperature was just right.
Chi Yuheng replied, “I’m not hot.”
The next second, Ye Ran grabbed his rolled-up sleeves and yanked them all the way down, unrolling them completely.
Chi Yuheng: “???”
Ye Ranâs brain came up with a strange logic: Not hot equals cold.
Besides, the sea breeze carried moisture. If it blew for a long time, it would definitely get cold later.
After finishing with the sleeves, Ye Ran turned his gaze to the two open buttons at Chi Yuhengâs collar.
The two buttons hung loosely, revealing a small patch of skin beneath, and his prominent Adamâs apple, which moved with a slow, rhythmic arc. Even the veins on his neck were faintly visible.
Chi Yuhengâs handsomeness was the kind that sat right between maturity and casualness. It wasn’t forced; it emanated from his very bones.
Ye Ran stared for a few extra moments. If it weren’t for his inconvenient foot, he would have pounced on him already to do up those buttons.
His actions were limited, but his words were effective.
Ye Ran issued a command, “Chi Yuheng, do up your buttons.”
Chi Yuhengâs fingertips paused. Although he didn’t understand what game his little young master was playing now, he still obediently did as he was told.
Pei Si had lost two rounds in a row, and he didn’t want to keep losing.
The next person to speak was Chi Yuheng. Young Master Pei had already turned his head toward them early on, wanting to fish for some information from his brother. He just happened to witness the scene of Ye Ran making Chi Yuheng button up.
Pei Siâs jaw nearly hit the floor.
If you were to ask who in this group dared to give orders to Chi Yuheng and make him obey without asking why…
Pei Si ran through everyone present in his mind, and aside from Ye Ran, he couldn’t find a second person.
Pei Si clicked his tongue twice and turned over to tease them, “Has the Big Boss turned into a virtuous househusband?”
“I say, you two…”
Halfway through his sentence, Chi Yuheng swept a sharp glance toward him. Pei Si swallowed the remaining half of his words.
Instead, he muttered under his breath, “You overbearing CEOs really should go to the ophthalmology department. Your eyes are like X-rays; one look is more powerful than a machine gun. Who could ever suppress you?”
As it happened, the latter half was caught by Chi Youchuâs sharp ears. He even chased after him to ask, “Who did you say was being suppressed?”
Pei Si narrowed his eyes. “You.”
This immediately caused the other to explode in embarrassment and anger, “Pei Si, you bastard!”
Pei Si: “How disrespectful. I’m the same age as your brother. Call me ‘Gege’.”
Chi Youchu curled his lip. “Your mother’s Gege!”
Pei Si: “…”
That’s quite a novel and unseen way of cursing.
Over here, Ye Ran didn’t explain why he made Chi Yuheng do up his buttons before proceeding to his next operation.
